A praça da Figueira sempre me pareceu uma das mais decadentes da cidade, ainda hoje podemos ver algum edificio deteriorado algo que no meu ponto de vista não se justifica para a localização que tem no entanto vejo-a já com outros olhos, muitos foram recuperados e têm uma cara mais limpa. Antes do celébre Terramoto esteve aqui um Hospital, depois instalou-se um mercado que deixou de funcionar em 1941 mas ficou o Mercado da Praça da Figueira que tenta recriar o antigo que aqui existiu.
The square Figueira always seemed one of the most decadent city, we can still see some deteriorated building something that in my view there is no justification because of it’s location however I already see it with different eyes, many were recovered and have a cleaner face. Before the famous earthquake there was here one hospital, then settled a market that ended in 1941 but the Mercado da Praça da Figueira remains trying to recreate the one that existed here years ago.
Os seus edificios uniformes com os seus candeeiros caracteristicos são uma boa forma de apreciar a arquitetura lisboeta e ao centro encontramos uma estátua equestre do Rei D. João I criada pelo o escultor Leopoldo de Almeida, colocada aqui em 1971. D. João I foi o primeiro rei depois da dinastia dos Felipes de Espanha, foi ele com ajuda de vários nobres nacionais que recuperou a soberanía portuguesa e foi também o pai da geração dos Descobrimentos. Está também aqui a famosa Confeitaria Nacional, uma das mais elegantes pastelarias de Lisboa fundada em 1829 por Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro para além de outras lojas que ainda hoje mantém o seu traçado tradicional.
Its uniform buildings with their characteristic lamps are a good way to enjoy the Lisbon arquitecture and in the center there is an equestrian statue of King John I created by the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, placed here in 1971. John I was the first king after the dynasty of Felipes of Spain, he was with the help of several national nobles who recovered the Portuguese sovereignty and was also the father of the generation of the Discoveries. The famous National Confectionery is also located here, one of the most elegant pastries Lisbon founded in 1829 by Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro apart from other shops that still retain its traditional route.
