Visitámos o MAAT em Julho e não era um dos seus dias mais quentes mas ainda assim pedia a gritos um gelado. Feliz coincidencia (e localização estratégica) junto ao museu estava uma pequena Piaggio transformada em mota de gelados conhecidos como as Paletas Mexicanas. Aqui em Madrid chamam-lhe polos mas termos técnicos á parte o importante é que são deliciosos gelados que podem ser recheados combinando sabores como o leite condensado com morango.

We visited MAAT in July and it was not one of the hottest days but still screaming for ice cream. Happily coincident (and strategic location) next to the museum was a small Piaggio turned into an ice cream mobile known as the Paletas Mexicanas. Here in Madrid they call it polos but technical terms aside the important thing is that they are delicious ice creams that can be filled combining flavors like condensed milk with strawberry

Há um ano atrás que a paisagem de Belém nunca mais foi a mesma, 2016 foi o ano em que o MAAT com o seu novo e moderno edificio abriu ao lado de outro emblemático onde esteve instalado o Museu da Electricidade. Trouxe modernidade numa linha junto ao rio marcada por grandes monumentos como o Padrão dos Descobrimentos e a Torre de Belém. Obra assinada por Amanda Levete, tem dupla funcionalidade: albergar obras de arte e servir de mirador para o rio Tejo.

From a year back the landscape of Belém would never be the same, 2016 was the year in which the MAAT with its new and modern building opened next to another emblematic where the Museum of Electricity was installed. Brought a modern touch in a line along the river marked by great monuments like the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of the Discoveries) and the Tower of Belém. Work signed by Amanda Levete, has dual functionality: to host works of art and serve as a viewpoint for the Tagus River.

Torre de Belém – Lisboa, Portugal

Parece incrível viver tantos anos em Lisboa e nunca ter visitado o interior da Torre de Belém, como não fui em nenhuma visita da escola também não fiz nenhum esforço por visitá-la depois. Porquê? Nem sei explicar, ela sempre esteve ali no seu sitio e eu passeava muito á sua volta, via desde o comboio quando ia de Cascais a Lisboa e só quando fui viver para Madrid, senti que afinal deveria conhecê-la melhor. E estava um dia muito bom para o fazer…
It seems incredible that I lived many years in Lisbon and have never visited the interior of the Tower of Belém, as I was never on one of it’s visits from school and also made ​​no effort to visit it later. Why? Can’t really explain, it was always there in this place  and I walked a lot around it, via the train when going from Cascais to Lisbon and only when I moved to Madrid, I felt that after all I should know it better. And it was a very good day to do it…

Palácio da Ajuda – Lisboa, Portugal

A visita ao Palácio da Ajuda foi uma promoção 2×1, fomos ver a exposição da Joana Vasconcelos e acabámos por conhecê-lo por dentro algo que nunca tinha feito enquanto vivi em Portugal.
A sua construção inicia no século XVIII durante o reinado de D. José e no século XIX foi residência oficial da Familia Real, hoje em dia para além das salas que podemos visitar têm sede aqui alguns organismos públicos assim como a Biblioteca.
The visit to Ajuda Palace was like a 2×1 promotion, we went to see the exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos and we finally discover it something we had never done while living in Portugal.
Its construction started in the eighteenth century during the reign of King Joseph and in the nineteenth century  itwas the official residence of the Royal Family, today besides the rooms that we can visit some public offices are installed here as well as the Library.

Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) – Belém, Portugal

São muitas as (boas) memórias que tenho do CCB, lembro-me de que quando foi inaugurado se falava de que era uma construção desnecessária porque o motivo da sua construção foi pelo facto de Portugal acolher a presidência da União Europeia, estávamos em 1992. Na altura diziam que o edificio era feio, uma aberração que estragaria a beleza da Praça do Império dominada pelo Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.
There are many (good) memories I have of CCB, I remember that when it first opened there was talk about it’s building was unnecessary because the reason for its construction was the fact that Portugal wat hosting the EU Presidency, this was in 1992. At the time they said that the building was ugly, an aberration that would spoil the beauty of the Empire Square  (Praça do Império) dominated by the Jeronimos Monastery.
