A Praça da República tem como principais pontos de interesse, o edificio da Câmara Municipal de Aveiro, a Igreja da Misericordia e a estátua de José Estevão, politico do século XIX que nasceu na cidade. No entanto e se sou 100% honesta o que me fez chegar até aqui foi a Confeitaria do Peixinho e os seus deliciosos Ovos Moles. E já que fomos aproveitei para conhecer melhor esta central praça.
Praça da República has as main points of interest, the building of the City Hall of Aveiro, the Misericordia Church and the statue of José Estevão, nineteenth-century politician who was born in the city. However and if I am 100% honest, what made me get here was Confeitaria do Peixinho and its delicious Moles. And since we went I took advantage to know better this central square.
Entrei na Igreja da Misericordia, que parece mais jovem do que realmente é já que foi construída no século XVII. A sua fachada está forrada de azulejos azuis e a sua capela mor foi a ultima parte a ser construida. Nela encontramos um bonito retábulo com quatro pinturas dedicadas a Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia. De resto, quando fomos achámos a praça um pouco “tristonha”, não havia muita gente e sem muito comércio perde um pouco de animação.
I entered the Misericordia Church, which looks younger than it really is since it was built in the seventeenth century. Its façade is lined with blue tiles and its main chapel was the last part to be built. In it we find a beautiful altarpiece with four paintings dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy. Moreover, when we went to find the square a little “sad”, there were not many people and without much commerce loses a little animation.
