No meu passeio junto á zona do meu hotel (Guoman The Tower Hotel) cheguei a este parque de Trinity onde está o Tower Hill Memorial. Já tinha estado em alguns memoriais mas não me lembro de nenhum com esta dimensão e não falo de tamanho, falo dos cerca de trinta e seis mil nomes de homens e mulheres que morreram no mar durante a primeira e a segunda guerra mundial.
During my stroll close to my hotel (The Tower Guoman Hotel) I arrived to this Trinity park area where Tower Hill Memorial is. Had been in some memorials but I do not remember any of this scale and I don’t speak of size but about thirty-six thousand names of men and women who died at sea during the First and Second World War.
Foi inaugurado em 1928 pela rainha Maria (casada com o rei George V) e está dividido em duas partes, a primeira que tem um edificio que contém doze mil nomes em memória dos que morreram ao serviço da Marinha inglesa durante a I Guerra Mundial. O segundo espaço é um jardim que contem cerca de vinte e quatro mil nomes mas referentes á II Guerra Mundial. Uma vez que morreram no mar esta foi uma forma de recordá-los uma vez que os corpos não foram recuperados.
Há volta do jardim estão dois edificios ligados ao mar, um é a Trinity House e o outro pertence ao Porto de Londres.
It was opened in 1928 by Queen Mary (married to King George V) and is divided into two parts, the first having a building containing twelve thousand names in memory of those who died in the service of the British Navy during the First World War. The second space is a garden containing about twenty-four thousand names but from the World War II. Since they died at sea this was a way to remember them once the bodies were not recovered.
