Antes de publicar este post pensei muito no título De Wallen ou o Red-Light District? Acabei por optar pelo primeiro, porque apesar da prostituição dar a fama ao bairro a verdade é que se conseguimos retirar essa parte da equação é uma zona onde podes tirar fotos dignas de postal, com os seus edificios antigos inclinados sobre os canais.
Before publishing this post I put much thought in the title De Wallen or Red-Light District? I ended up opting for the first, because despite the fact that the prostitution gives the name to the neighborhood the truth is that if we can remove this part of the equation it’s an area where you can take photos worthy of postcards, with its old buildings leaning over the channels.

A primeira vez que vi esta praça foi de noite estava vazia, sombria e misteriosa. Nesta última visita passámos pela praça durante o dia e foi uma experiência diferente, mais gente que a cruzava, podia ver a impressionante fachada do Duomo com mais detalhe e contemplar os edificios que a rodeiam.
Foi construída ao mesmo tempo da Catedral que lhe dá o nome e também com ela foi evoluindo até á grandiosa praça que podemos visitar hoje.
 
The first time I saw this square was the night was empty, dark and mysterious. On this last visit we went to the plaza during the day and it was a different experience, a lot of people crossing it, I could see the impressive facade of the Duomo in more detail and take in the buildings that surround it.
It was built at the same time the Cathedral that gives it’s name and also was evolving with it until the grand square that we can visit today.

 
Um dos edificios mais importantes da praça, ainda que ao principio não chame a atenção é o Palácio Real, é verdade que o Duomo ofusca tudo o resto. A construção actual que vemos vem do século XVIII e foi utilizado como sede do governo italiano. Perto está o Palazzo dell’Arengario cuja construção começou na época de Mussolini mas só ficou completo vinte anos mais tarde.
Virado para o Duomo mas olhando em direcção ás Galerias está Vítor Emanuel II, o primeiro rei da Itália unificada e com algumas estátuas equestres espalhadas pelo país.
 
One of the most important buildings of the square although at first do not called for our attention, is the Royal Palace, the Duomo is able to overshadow everything else. The current building that we see comes from the eighteenth century and was used as seat of the Italian government. Nearby is the Palazzo dell’Arengario whose construction began in the time of Mussolini but was complete only twenty years later.
Facing the Duomo but looking towards the Galleries is Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy and with a few equestrian statues around the country.

Museu dos Brinquedos – Munique, Alemanha

Eu ainda hoje adoro brinquedos, ainda guardo comigo algumas bonecas (tenho uma boneca “mais velha” que eu de 1972) que gosto, ainda tenho três Pinypons que mesmo depois de mudar de casa várias vezes continuam a fazer parte da familia por isso ainda que pequeno, gostei muito do Museu dos Brinquedos. Também porque te dá outra perspectiva da história da cidade e dos que nela vivem, como brincavam as crianças e com o quê, o que estava na moda e em que época. Os brinquedos são um reflexo de como vivemos, evoluem connosco e por isso são uma maneira de entender o passado.
I still love toys, I still have some dolls (I have a doll “older” than me she is from 1972)that I like, I still have three Pinypons that even after moving house several times continue to be part of the family so even though it was small, I really enjoyed the Toy Museum. Also because it gives you another perspective of the history of the city and living there, how children played and with what, what was trendy and at what time. Toys are a reflection of how we live, they evolve with us and they are a way to understand the past.

Peterskirche – Munique, Alemanha

Visitámos a igreja á segunda tentativa porque na primeira estava a celebrar-se a missa. Logo no inicio da nossa visita um quadro com várias fotografías captou a minha atenção, nelas a Peterskirche estava práticamente destruída pelos bombardeios da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Em Dezembro de 1944 o interior desta igreja ficou reduzida a cinzas mas a sua estrutura exterior e principalmente a fachada conseguiram sobreviver.
We visited the church on our second attempt because the in the first it was celebrating mass. Early on in our visit a framework with several photographs captured my attention in them Peterskirche was virtually destroyed by the bombings of World War II. In December 1944 the interior of this church was reduced to ashes but most of it’s exterior and facade survived.

Há muito tempo que andava evitar subir tantos degraus mas a promessa de uma das melhores vistas sobre Munique fizeram-me mudar de ideias. Fomos claramente recompensados depois de subir mais de trezentos degraus numas escadas tão estreitas que em alguns momentos provocaram  engarrafamentos, a vista de 360º é realmente boa e ainda conseguimos ver o famoso Rathaus-Glockenspiel de um lugar privilegiado.
Have long been avoiding to climb so many stairs but the promise of one of the best views of Munich made ​​me change my mind. We were clearly rewarded after going up more than three hundred steps a so narrow stairs that at times it caused traffic jams, the 360 ° view is really good and we even got to see the famous Rathaus–Glockenspiel of a privileged place.

Viktualienmarkt – Munique, Alemanha

Se tivesse que escolher qual o meu lugar preferido em Munique este talvez seria o escolhido porque o Viktualienmarkt permite fazer de tudo um pouco: comer, beber, comprar e conviver. É uma experiência completa num só local.
Está aberto todos os dias e as suas barracas vendem de tudo um pouco: legumes, fruta, queijo, “picles” que os locais adoram, enchidos regionais, artesanato, mel, vinho, etc..
If I had to choose what is my favorite place in Munich this may be the chosen one because the Viktualienmarkt allows you do a bit of everything: eat, drink, shop and socialize. It is a complete experience in one place.
It’s open every day and their stalls sell a bit of everything: vegetables, fruit, cheese, gherkins that locals love, regional sausages, crafts, honey, wine, etc..

Surf no Eisbach – Munique, Alemanha

Talvez lhes falte o bronzeado, o cabelo mais claro por causa do sol ou as miúdas giras sentadas na areia a vê-los surfar, mas esta onda no Eisbach dentro do Englisher Garten é a melhor opção para os que gostam de praticar este desporto e têm as praias a muitos quilometros de distancia.
Eu que nunca tinha visto fazer e despertou o meu interesse, pensei que este seria o surf ideal para mim, sem o esforço de estar sempre remar, sem a inconstância do mar, sem ter sabedoria de como vai quebrar a onda porque aqui ela é quase sempre igual.
Perhaps they lack the tan, the blond hair because of the sun or the cute girls sitting in the sand  to see them surfing, but this wave in Eisbach within the Englisher Garten is the best option for those who like to practice this sport and the beaches are to many kilometers away.
I had never seen it and aroused my interest, I thought this would be the ideal surf for me, without the effort of always paddling without the inconstancy of the sea, without knowledge of how the wave will break because here it is almost always the same one.

Müller-Brot – Munique, Alemanha

O nosso hotel estava no bairro de Lehel e a primeira coisa que fizémos na manhã seguinte á nossa chegada foi procurar uma pastelaria ou padaria onde “montar” o nosso centro de operações. E foi no Müller que começámos grande parte dos nossos días em Munique e ao principio cheguei a pensar que era a típica padaria de bairro para depois perceber que é de uma empresa grande com lojas por toda a cidade.
Our hotel was in the Lehel district  and the first thing we did the morning after our arrival was to look for a pastry or bakery where to “set” our operations center. And it was in Müller that we started most of our days in Munich and at the beginning I actually thought it was a typical neighborhood bakery and then I realized it’s a big company with stores throughout the city.

Marienplatz – Munique, Alemanha

A melhor maneira de ver a Marienplatz é da torre da Peterskirche, só assim escapas da multidão que nela se junta para começar uma das suas famosas visitas guiadas gratuitas ou ver o Rathaus-Glockenspiel com a sua dança de personagens que conseguimos apanhar ás onze da manhã e outra vez ao meio-dia.
The best way to see the Marienplatz is from the tower of the Peterskirche, it’s the only way to escape the crowd that gathers there to get one of his famous free guided tours and see the Rathaus-Glockenspiel with its dance of characters that happen at eleven am and again at noon.

O Quilombo não foi a nossa primeira escolha, queríamos ir ao Mercado de La Reina mas estava cheio e optámos por descubrir este novo lugar de “tapas e cañas” na Gran Vía. Pertence a um grupo argentino de restauração que se chama RE, tem uma decoração moderna e descontraída, eu diría que chega a misturar muitos estilos num só mas é um lugar dinâmico onde podes jantar ou beber um copo com os amigos enquanto ouves música ao vivo.
 
The Quilombo was not our first choice, we wanted to go to the Mercado de La Reina but it was full and we decided to find out this new place of “tapas and cañas” in Gran Vía. Belongs to an argentine restaurants group called RE, has a modern and relaxed decor, I’d say it has to many mixed styles in only one spot but it is  a dinamic place where you can dine or have a drink with friends while listening to some live music.

Nós fomos jantar depois de ter subido á açoteia do Círculo das Belas Artes, não queríamos comer muito e pedimos umas tapas para dividir. Optámos pelos clássicos: croquetes (ou croquetas) de presunto e os “huevos rotos”, pedimos também um provoleta com tomate confitado. Os dois primeiros pratos estavam regulares mas o que nos faria voltar foi mesmo o queijo derretido com doce de tomate. Gostámos da combinação e estava muito bom.
Para matar a sede umas “cañas” da Estrella Galicia. Ficou a uns 12€ por pessoa, é um bom sitio para beber um copo enquanto petiscas algo e o melhor é não ter grandes expectactivas.
Tinha um defeito, a música estava muito alta, parece que é coisa do ADN do restaurante porque tinha uma mesa de mistura e anúncios de noites com DJ’s, também tem uma agenda de música ao vivo.

We went to dinner after visiting the Circulo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts) rooftop we didn’t want to eat much and ordered some tapas to share. We opted for the classics: “croquetas” with ham and “huevos rotos”, we also has a provoleta with tomato confit. The first two dishes were regular but we would return for the melted cheese with tomato jam. We liked the combination and it was very good.
To quench our thirst a “cañas” Estrella Galicia. It was about 12 € per person, it’s a good place for a drink while snacking something and the best is to go with no big expectactions.
It a problem, the music was too loud, it seems that there is something in the DNA of this restaurant because they had a music mixing table and ads for the nights with DJ’s, also has a schedule of live music.
