Queria comer algo rápido com as crianças para aproveitar o resto do dia na cidade, tinha já pesquisado o Udo-Snack que é famoso pelos seus hamburguers e fomos experimentar. O lugar é muito pequeno com mesas altas e sem lugar para sentar,  sem grandes decorações o que é capaz de afastar os Instagrammers mais fashion mas os seus preços são imbatíveis (o mais caro custava 6€ mas o preços começam nos 2,8€).

I wanted to eat something fast with the kids to enjoy the rest of the day in the city, had already researched the Udo-Snack which is famous for its hamburgers and we went to try it. The place is very small with high tables and no place to sit, no large decorations which is able to ward off the most fashionable Instagrammers but their prices are unbeatable (the most expensive cost 6 € but prices start at 2,8 €).

A sua primeira construção é do século X e era um castelo rodeado de água, seis mais tarde foi ampliado ao estilo do Renascimento que se nota melhor no seu interior. É realmente sorpreendente quando estás fora e vais entrando descobrindo o seu bonito pátio onde se destaca a estátua de Everardo I de Württemberg a cavalo.

Its first building is from the tenth century and was a castle surrounded by water, six ccenturies later it was expanded to the Renaissance style that is best noted inside. It is really amazing when you see it from the outside and has you go in you discover its beautiful courtyard where the statue of Everardo I of Württemberg on horseback stands today.

Alexanderplatz – Berlim, Alemanha

Fomos a Berlim na época da Páscoa, a pesar de não ver tantos sinais dela como noutras ciudades alemãs ou de fronteira pensei que as barraquinhas de madeira que vi na Alexanderplatz eram por isso. Ao parecer estão sempre ali pelo menos algumas o que dá um contraste interessante á praça com o seu relógio mundial e edificios modernos á volta, esses pequenos toques do mais tradicional alemão ajuda a complementá-la.

We went to Berlin at Easter time, despite not seeing as many signs of it as in other German cities or frontiers I thought the wooden stands I saw on Alexanderplatz were there for that. Apparently they are there always at least some of them which gives an interesting contrast to the square with its world clock and modern buildings around, these little touches of the more traditional German helps to complement it.

Altes Museum – Berlim, Alemanha

O primeiro dos museus da sua famosa “ilha” está desde 1830 num impressionante edificio neo-clássico junto á Catedral de Berlim. No seu interior uma grande colecção de peças de arte antiga da Etruria, da Grécia e do Imperio Romano. Foi dos mais fácil para entrar, tinha fila mas não tão desesperante como por exemplo a que se encontra no Pergamon.

The first of the museums on its famous “island” has been in an impressive neo-classical building dating from 1830 near the Berlin Cathedral. Inside is a large collection of ancient art pieces from Etruria, Greece and the Roman Empire. It was one of the easiest to get in, it had a queue but not as desperate as for example the one in Pergamon.

Hummus & Friends – Berlim, Alemanha

“Make hummus, not walls” e com este statement começa a nossa experiência no Hummus & Friends. Pão de pita e hummus, que pode correr mal? Nada. Com uma decoração moderna, urbana e equilibrada. Mas é a comida que faz vale a pena a visita como uma carta onde o hummus é o prato estrela no entanto a sua beringela e couve-flor também já ganharam fama.

“Make hummus, not walls” and with this statement begins our experience at Hummus & Friends. Pita bread and hummus, what can go wrong? Anything. With a modern, urban and balanced decoration. But it is the food that makes it worth the visit as a menu where the hummus is the star dish however their aubergine and cauliflower have also gained fame.

Ampelmann – Berlim, Alemanha

O Ampelmannchen ou homem do Semáforo é um dos maiores símbolos de Berlim. É também um símbolo da vida da parte Oriental da cidade e na década de 60 era utilizado nos seus semáforos. Hoje é a figura de uma loja de souvenirs pela mão Markus Heckhausen e onde podes levar um pouco da história de Berlim no regresso a casa. Nós visitámos a que esta em Unter den Linden no mesmo quarteirão do nosso hotel.

The Ampelmannchen or Man of the Traffic Light is one of the biggest symbols of Berlin. It is also a symbol of life in the eastern part of the city and in the 60’s was used at its traffic lights. Today is the figure of a souvenir shop by the hand Markus Heckhausen and where you can take a bit of the history of Berlin when you come back home. We visited the one in Unter den Linden on the same block from our hotel.

Princess Cheesecake – Berlim, Alemanha

O Princess Cheesecake foi a nossa aposta para um pequeno-almoço diferente, fica no bairro de Mitte mas numa zona relativamente tranquila com uma pequena e encantadora esplanada fora. O seu interior elegante ainda que simples, tinha um toque romântico e talvez nostálgico das antigas casas de chá da elite e a montra de cheesecakes é a principal atração…e foi tão dificil escolher (e não provar todos).

The Princess Cheesecake was our bet for a different breakfast, it is in the Mitte district but in a relatively quiet area with a lovely little terrace outside. Its elegant yet simple interior had a romantic and perhaps nostalgic touch of old elite tea houses and the cheesecake storefront is the main attraction … and it was so hard to choose (and not to taste all).

Dóttir – Berlim, Alemanha

NOTA: ENCERRADO/CLOSED

Encontrei o Dóttir na primeira página da Timeout Berlim, era a sua grande recomendação e decidi marcar mesa para a nossa primeira noite na cidade. Gostei do ar descontraído do restaurante e apesar de ser cozinha de autor escandinava pensei (não sei como) que seria acessível. Enganei-me. Ao entrar e sentar-me no seu pequeno bar começo a ler o menu que era de degustação e que custava nada mais nada menos que cinquenta e oito euros (sem as bebidas) com quatro pratos. Museu de Pergamon – Berlim, Alemanha

Foi o último museu que visitámos em Berlim e tivémos apenas meia hora para o fazer, creio que foi a primeira vez que nos aconteceu mas tentámos sacar o máximo proveito da visita. Sabia que não podia deixar a cidade sem visitá-lo, morria de curiosidade de ver esse grandes exemplares da arquitetura da antiguidade como a porta de Ishtar e o Grande Altar de Pergamon que acabámos por não ver porque estava fechado para obras de recuperação.

It was the last museum to visit in Berlin and we had only half an hour to do so, I believe it was the first time that happened to us but we tried to take the most out of the visit. I knew I could not leave town without visiting it, dying of curiosity to see the great examples of ancient architecture as the Ishtar Gate and the Great Altar of Pergamon that we ended up not see why it was closed for restoration work. Postdamer Platz – Berlim, Alemanha

Tal como tantos outros lugares em Berlim que sofreram na II Guerra Mundial a Potsdamer Platz teve que ser reconstruída mas com a diferença de que pouco se conseguiu recuperar.  Aqui não se procurou replicar a antiga e elegante praça do principio do século XX, o que vemos hoje é a cara mais moderna da cidade tentando ainda assim preservar algo do passado como por exemplo uma parte do muro de Berlim ou a fachada do Hotel Esplanade.

Like so many other places in Berlin who suffered in World War II Potsdamer Platz had to be rebuilt but with the difference that little could recover. Here they did not sought to replicate the ancient and elegant square of the beginning of the twentieth century, what we see today is the modern face of the city trying to still preserve something of the past such as a piece of the Berlin Wall or the facade of the Hotel Esplanade.
