Para os que não gostam de pôr o pezinho na areia ou gostam de marés mais tranquilas (que na realidade já são uma oferta das praias de Cascais), esta Piscina oceânica é uma boa opção. Está no paredão entre as Praia das Moitas e a da Duquesa junto ao Palácio dos Duques de Palmela. Tem areia no fundo e é alimentada pela água do mar.
For those who do not like to put their feet in the sand or enjoy the more tranquil tides (which are already an offer of the Cascais beaches), this ocean swimming pool is a good option. It is on the wall between Praia das Moitas and the Duchess near the Palace of the Dukes of Palmela. It has sand in the background and is fed by sea water.

A vizinha da Praia da Duquesa é mais pequena em largura mas compensa com maior profundidade de areal, ainda assim fica totalmente cheia no Verão principalmente nos fins de semana e quando a maré baixa as duas ficam unidas. Localizada entre o Hotel Albatroz e a Casa Faial, tem um dos entornos mais bonitos com os chalets renovados que vemos junto á mesma e também a Ermida Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
The neighbor of Praia da Duquesa is smaller in width but compensates with a greater depth of sand, still it gets totally full in the summer mainly at weekends and when the tide is lower the two beaches are connected. Located between the Hotel Albatroz and Casa Faial, it has one of the most beautiful surroundings with the renovated chalets we see next to it and also the Nossa Senhora da Conceição church.

Cada vez que íamos a Portugal de fim de semana alguém recomendava comer os hamburguers do Gutsy, a liderar estas recomendações está o seu famoso hamburguer para corajosos com o nome da casa claro está e que poderia alimentar no minimo três pessoas com o seu meio quilo de carne picada. Fui em familia e cada um quería escolher o seu, não foi por isso por falta de coragem que não pedimos o maior hamburguer da casa mas pelo amor á variedade. A sua localização é muito recomendável, fica na agradável Praça do Junqueiro e conta com uma boa esplanada que permite sumar mais mesas ao interior apertado.

Every time we went to Portugal for the weekend someone recommended to eat the Gutsy hamburger, leading these recommendations is their famous burger for the brave ones with the name of the house obviously and could feed at least three people with their half kilo minced meat I went with the family and each one wanted to choose their own, it was not for lack of courage that we did not order the biggest burger in the house but for the love of variety. Its location is very recommendable, it is in the pleasant Square of the Junqueiro and has a good esplanade that allows to add more tables to the tight interior. Vivia a poucos minutos de este palácio e foi preciso ir viver fora para finalmente o conhecer por dentro. Foi construído no século XVIII e é um dos melhores exemplos da arquitetura rococó em Portugal, pela mão de D. Pedro então irmão do Rei D. José I e tio de D. Maria que mais tarde foi sua mulher – mais um estranho matrimónio numa familia real. Hoje podemos contemplar a beleza de um palácio que se pode comparar a outros igualemente luxuosos que vemos pela Europa fora.

I used to live a few minutes from this palace and had to go live abroad to finally see it from the inside. It was built in the 18th century and is one of the best examples of rococo architecture in Portugal, by the hand of D. Pedro, then brother of King D. José I and uncle of D. Maria who later became his wife – another strange marriage in a royal family. Today we can contemplate the beauty of a palace that can be compared to other equally luxurious ones that we see in throughout Europe.

Parque de Santa Cruz – Coimbra, Portugal

Quando nos preparavamos para deixar Coimbra um parque chamou a nossa atenção, parámos o carro e muito á pressa fomos ver como era, também conhecido como o Jardim da Sereia está mesmo nos limites do centro histórico da cidade e tem como principais atrações uma cascata e a Fonte da Nogueira. Decorado com o estilo barroco foi construido no século XVIII nos terrenos da Quinta de Santa Cruz.

As we prepared to leave Coimbra a park caught our attention, we stopped the car and in a hurry we went to see how it was, also known as the Mermaid Garden is right on the edge of the historic center of the city and has as main attractions a waterfall and the Fountain of Nogueira (walnut tree). Decorated with baroque style was built in the eighteenth century on the grounds of the Quinta de Santa Cruz.

Universidade de Coimbra – Portugal

Já tinha vindo várias vezes á Universidade de Coimbra mas nunca tinha chegado a entrar ou a fazer a visita, finalmente fomos com tempo e aproveitámos para conhecer melhor a universidade mais antiga do país originalmente fundada no século XIII mas com sede em Lisboa foi transferida para esta cidade no século XVI instalando-se no Paço Real hoje conhecido como o Paço das Escolas.

I had already come to the University of Coimbra several times but never got to enter or visit, we finally went with time and we got to know better the oldest university in the country originally founded in the thirteenth century but based in Lisbon was transferred to this city in the XVI century installing itself in the Real Paço now known as the Paço das Escolas (Schools Palace).

A uma hora de Madrid, Segóvia é conhecida pelo o seu centro monumental onde se destacam a Catedral, o Alcazar e o Aqueduto, pela sua gastronomia em que o ponto alto é o “cochinillo” e á sua volta podemos ver vários lugares que fazem parar no tempo como a Granja de San Ildefonso, o Palácio de Riofrio ou Pedraza. Vamos pelo menos uma vez ao ano dar um passeio para conhecer um novo recanto ou comer o seu prato mais famoso.

At one hour from Madrid, Segovia is known for its monumental center where the Cathedral, the Alcazar and the Aqueduct stand out, for their gastronomy in which the high point is the “cochinillo” and around it we can see several places that make you stop in time as the Granja de San Ildefonso, the Palace of Riofrio or Pedraza. We go at least once a year to take a walk to get to know a new place or eat their most famous dish.

O nosso passeio a Coimbra contava também com almoço na cidade, escolhemos a Dux Taberna Urbana com boas criticas no Tripadvisor e cumpriu com a nossa expectativa que era comer uns bons petiscos portugueses (que saudades). Ficava um pouco fora do nosso trajecto e tivemos que ir de carro mas valeu a pena, foi um bom almoço onde não faltou a broa de milho, o pica pau e a farinheira.

Our tour to Coimbra also included lunch in the city, we chose the Dux Taberna Urbana with good reviews on Tripadvisor and met our expectations that it was to eat some good Portuguese “petiscos” (which I missed). It was a little out of our way and we had to go by car but it was worth it, it was a good lunch where the cornbread, the “pica pau” and the “farinheira” were present.

Era uma das mais famosas excursões de quando andávamos na escola, uma maneira de conhecer um pouco mais da história de Portugal, dos seus Descobrimentos e da sua riqueza arquitectónica, tudo isto com um apelativo aos “Pequenitos” com um comboio, exposições e entrar numa casa típica mas com um tamaño mais proporcional ao seu. Foi inaugurado em 1940 com uma iniciativa de um professor da Universidade de Coimbra cuja fundação ainda gere o parque, a Fundação Bissaya-Barreto.

It was one of the most famous excursions we had when we went to school, a way to get to know more about the history of Portugal, its discoveries and its architectural richness, all with an appeal to the “Pequenitos” (the little ones) with a train, exhibitions and Typical house but with a size more proportional to yours. It was inaugurated in 1940 with an initiative of a professor of the University of Coimbra whose foundation still manages the park, the Bissaya-Barreto Foundation.

Desesperadamente procurando o melhor cachorro quente da cidade, temos uns sabores em concreto na cabeça (os do cachorro do Sobe e Desce em Cascais) que estão a ser dificeis de replicar. Fomos ao Paperboy com essa missão e não conseguimos encontrar esses mas outros, novos e alguns mais originais. São de autor e a sua carta respeita o nome, cada um tem o nome de um jornal que corresponde á origem da receita. Pratos favoritos: o cachorro New York Times e o crepe com doce de leite.

Desperately searching for the best hot dog in town, we have some concrete flavors on our head (those of the Sobe e Desce in Cascais) that are difficult to replicate. We went to Paperboy with this mission and we could not find these but other, new and some more original. They are author hotdogs and its menu respects the name, each one has the name of a newspaper that corresponds to the origin of the recipe. Favorite dishes: the New York Times hotdog and the crepe with dulce de leche.
