Dedicada ao Rei D. Fernando III (o Santo) e foi sob a sua protecção que se iniciou a construção da catedral em 1221. Segundo uma placa nela colocada antes de receber este nome era a Plaza del Sarmental pela porta da catedral com o mesmo nome estar virada para a praça e no século XIX, tinha o nome de Plaza del Duque de la Victoria em homenagem ao General Espartero.

Dedicated to King D. Fernando III (the Saint) and it was under his protection that the construction of the cathedral began in 1221. According to a plaque placed on it before receiving this name was the Plaza del Sarmental by the door of the cathedral of the same name. facing the square and in the 19th century, it was named after Plaza del Duque de la Victoria in honor of General Espartero.

Gran Via – Bilbao, Espanha

O nome completo é Gran Via Don Diego López de Haro e é provavelmente a rua mais importante da cidade, também a mais movimentada. Recebe o nome do fundador da cidade que era no século XIV era uma simples aldeia piscatória, passou depois a vila e o seu porto mercantil dependia directamente do senhorio de Biscaya.
E nestes últimos anos a cidade volta a transformar-se de um passado cinzento ligado a produção industrial e ao porto, para se tornar num centro cosmopolita que podemos testemunhar ao longo da Gran Via. É um verdadeiro centro comercial ao ar livre com algumas das melhores lojas com morada ali, lojas como a Louis Vuitton, a Hugo Boss ou a Suarez.
 
It’s complete name is Gran Via Don Diego López de Haro and is problably the most important street in the city, also one busiest. Named after the founder of the city that was in the fourteenth century just a simple fishing village, it became a town and its commercial port depended directly from the landlord of Biscay.
And in recent years the city transformed itself from a grey past of industrial production and the port to become a cosmopolitan center that we can witness along the Gran Via. It is a true open-air shopping center with some of the best shops there, stores like Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss or Suarez.

APARTHOTEL HALL 88 – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA

Procurávamos um hotel para dois adultos e uma criança e apesar de só termos planeado uma noite na cidade, optámos por um aparthotel porque tinha a melhor relação preço/qualidade que encontrámos no Booking. O apartamento/quarto ficou por 90€ mas não está no centro da cidade, como fomos em época de feriados e pontes este foi o melhor preço que conseguimos encontrar.
Estacionámos sempre na rua porque havia lugares e para ir ao centro da cidade utilizávamos os seus parques, esses sim pagos.
We were looking for a hotel for two adults and a child and despite only planned a night on the town, we opted for an apartment because they had the best price / quality ratio we found in the Booking. The apartment / room for was 90 € but was not in the city center, as we were in holidays time this was the best price we could find.
We parked on the street because there were always places and to go to the city center we used their parks, but these paid.

PLAZA DE ANAYA – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA

Esta animada praça recebe o seu nome pelo Palácio de Anaya que vemos na foto do lado direito. Este palácio albergou o Colégio de Anaya também conhecido como Colégio Maior de S. Bartolomeu fundado no século XV por Diego de Anaya com o objectivo de dar acesso aos estudos aos que não tinham recursos.
Hoje funciona a faculdade de Filologia, responsável pelo estudo cientifico da língua.

This lively square gets its name because of the Palacio de Anaya we see in the photo on the right. This palace housed the College of Anaya also known as Colegio Mayor de S. Bartholomew founded in the fifteenth century by Diego de Anaya with the aim of providing access to students that lacked resources.
Today the work of philology faculty, responsible for scientific study of language.

PARQUE EUROPA – TORREJÓN DE ARDOZ, ESPANHA

O Parque Europa fica em Torrejón de Ardoz a uns trinta minutos de Madrid. Para chegar até ele é aconselhável GPS porque na realidade pareceu-nos mal sinalizado. Como o nome indica é dedicado á Europa com réplicas de importantes monumentos de vários países do velho continente e da União Europeia.
O estacionamento é feito por parquímetros, 3€ representam 6 horas de estacionamento. Há pelo o que percebi mais que uma entrada, nós entrámos pela a que tinha a réplica da Porta de Bradenburgo (Berlim) mas vimos outra junto á Porta de Alcalá (Madrid).
The Europe Park in Torrejon de Ardoz is about thirty minutes from Madrid. To reach it is advisable to use GPS because in reality it seemed poorly signposted. As the name indicates is dedicated to Europe with replicas of important monuments from various countries of the old continent and the European Union.
Parking is done with meters, 6 hours cost 3€. There are at what I noticed more than one entry, the one we entered had a replica of the Brandenburg Gate (Berlin) but I saw another near the Puerta de Alcalá (Madrid).

Pontes de Girona – Espanha

Sem dúvida que uma das grandes atracções da cidade é o rio Onyar que separa as suas coloridas margens que se voltam a unir com a ajuda das suas pontes, algumas já emblemáticas. A primeira que vemos na foto é a Ponte de Pedra também conhecida por D. Isabel II já que foi durante o seu reinado que foi construída (Ano de 1856).
A que podemos ver actualmente foi construída onde antes estaria uma ponte medieval. Será uma das mais antigas que existe a ligar o bairro antigo com o que chamam de mercadal.
Undoubtedly one of the great attractions of the city is the river Onyar that separates its colorful shores that unite again with the help of its bridges, some already emblematic. The first one that we see in the photo is the Stone Bridge also known by D. Isabel II since it was during its reign that was constructed (Year of 1856).
The one that we can see at the moment was constructed where before would be a medieval bridge. It will be one of the oldest that exists to connect the old quarter with what they call mercadal.

Igreja Sant Feliu – Girona, Espanha

A placa que a identifica diz que é a construção gótica mais representativa de Girona. É dedicada a S. Félix (ou S. Feliu em catalão), há dúvidas sobre o seu local de nascimento, dizem que foi em Itália e terá sido um mártir que morreu na cidade espanhola.
A igreja está localizada numa simpática praça com o mesmo nome, á volta dela cafés/restaurantes com esplanada tornam o espaço muito agradável e seguramente que de noite será um dos locais de eleição para comer ou tomar um copo com vista para a imponente fachada onde se destaca a sua torre campanário desenhada por Pere Sacoma o mesmo da Catedral de Sta. Maria que também podemos ver na cidade.
The plaque that identifies it says it is the most representative Gothic building of Girona. It is dedicated to St Félix (or S. Feliu in Catalan), there are doubts about his birthplace, some said it was in Italy and he was a martyr who died in this spanish city.
The church is located in a nice square of the same name, around it cafes / restaurants with outdoor seating make the space very pleasant and surely that in the evening it is one of the favorite spots to eat or drink overlooking the imposing façade that it’s main highlight is the bell tower designed by Pere Sacoma the same from the Cathedral of St. Mary that we can also see in the city.

Ponte de Piedra – Zaragoza, Espanha

Saindo da Plaza del Pilar em direcção ao rio Ebro podemos ver a Ponte de Pedra. A primeira construção no local é do século XII mas a actual ponte é do século XV. Ao longo dos anos foi sendo reforçada e algumas partes reconstruídas fruto da sua destruição em intempéries. A construção é feita em pedra de silhar e tem quatro arcos. Por ela passam carros (com uma faixa de rodagem apenas) e pessoas, é um excelente local para ter uma boa panorâmica da cidade de Zaragoça á beira rio.

Leaving the Plaza del Pilar towards the river Ebro we can see the Stone Bridge (Puente de Piedra). The first construction on the site is from the 12th century but the current bridge is from the 15th century. Over the years it has been strengthened and some parts rebuilt as a result of its destruction in bad weather. The building is made of stone and has four arches. Passing cars (with a lane only) and people, it is a great place to have a good view of the city of Zaragoza by the river.

Catedral N.S. de Pilar – Zaragoça, Espanha

Apenas na nossa segunda visita a Zaragoça conseguimos ver o interior da famosa Catedral-Basílica de Nossa Senhora del Pilar de Zaragoça.
A sua construção começou no século XVI, de estilo barroco (considerado o maior monumento do género em Espanha) distingue-se pelas suas cúpulas decoradas com coloridos azulejos.
Only on our second visit to Zaragoza we were able to see the interior of the famous Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady Pilar.
It’s construction started in the XVI, built in a barroque style (considered one of the biggest monuments of this style in Spain) it’s distinguished by it’s colorful tiled decorated domes.

Sa Conca – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

Quando passámos férias na Costa Brava estava a custar-nos um pouco encontrar aquelas “calas” ou pequenas praias com pouca gente que tanta boa publicidade fazem á zona. Sabíamos que elas existiam só não sabíamos muito bem onde, até que percebemos que mesmo ao lado do nosso alojamento na Platja D’Aro havia uma Praia que não sendo a típica cala pequena conseguia manter esse espírito: Sa Conca.

When we were spending our holidays on the Costa Brava it was costing us a bit to find those “calas” or small beaches with few people that do so much good publicity of the area. We knew they existed but we didn’t knew very well where, until we realized that right beside our accommodation in Platja D’Aro there was a beach that is not the typical small cala but could keep this spirit: Sa Conca.
