Depois de uma boa caminhada pela 5ª Avenida chegámos á zona onde está a loja da Apple e a famosa loja de brinquedos FAO Schwarz que ganhou ainda mais protagonismo com o filme Big (1988) em que Tom Hanks, uma criança num corpo de adulto maravilhou a clientela ao tocar no Piano numa cena que ficou para sempre na minha memória e que foi a desculpa perfeita para entrar. Porque eu também consigo ser uma criança num corpo de adulta e não resisto a uma boa loja de brinquedos.
After a good walk up the 5th Avenue we reached the área where the Apple store and the famous FAO Schwarz toy store are that gained further prominence with the Big (1988) movie where Tom Hanks, a child in an adult body marveled the clientele by tapping the piano in a scene that is forever in my memory and that was the perfect excuse to go in. Because can I also be a child in an adult body and I can not resist a good toy store.
O Big Piano está no segundo andar e tens que fazer fila para poder tocar por alguns minutos. Outra referência ao filme é a mítica máquina do Zoltar que faz o Josh ficar adulto mas a que está aqui é típica de adivinhar o futuro não a de conceder desejos.
As suas prateleiras da FAO Schwarz enchem-se de vários tipos de brinquedos, podemos encontrar peluches, jogos, bonecas, etc.. Eu que sou coleccionadora de Barbies antigas aproveitei para comprar uma reprodução a melhor preço que se encontra na Europa mas a minha zona preferida foi a dos Legos. Primeiro pelas esculturas feitas com estas pequenas peças uma delas da icónica Estátua da Liberdade, depois porque podemos encontrar Legos como o carro do filme Back to The Future ou do Star Wars. Aproveitei para comprar um da coleção Arquitecture para lembrar que aqui estivémos: o Empire State Building.
The Big Piano is on the second floor and you have to queue to be able to play for a few minutes. Another reference to the film is the mythical Zoltar machine that makes Josh become an adult but the one here is the typical fortune teller not the one to grant wishes.The FAO Schwarz shelves are filled with various kinds of toys, we can find teddies, games, dolls , etc… As a collector of vintage Barbies I was able to buy a reproduction at a better price that I would fin in Europe but my favorite place was the of Legos zone. First because of the sculptures made with these small pieces, one was the iconic Statue of Liberty and then because we can find Legos like the car of the movie Back to the Future or the Star Wars collection. I bought one from the Arquitecture collection to remember we were here: the Empire State Building.
Tem uma zona de livros e comics, a febre das pulseiras feitas com elásticos coloridos também dá lugar a uma área própria e porque já não chegava a tentação de querer meter uma moeda na máquina do Zoltar para desejar ser criança outra vez, há uma zona de doces que dá vontade de pôr outra para que as calorias não contem.
Não é apenas uma loja é uma experiência, é uma viagem á nossa infância e é um desafio sair sem comprar nada (pelo menos para mim).
