Place de L’Horloge – Nîmes, França
Do Maison Carrée caminhámos pela Rue de L’Horloge e virámos á esquerda até chegar á Praça com o mesmo nome. Nela podemos ver a Torre do Relógio (Horloge) que durante seis séculos vai informando aos habitantes e visitantes da hora correcta. A construção actual é do século XIX e a primeira do século XIV, também a praça foi remodelada em 2003 ganhando um novo pavimento, palmeiras a decorar e uma pequena fonte, tornando-a mais agradável.
Arena de Nîmes – França
Uma coisa é certa, os habitantes da cidade de Nîmes souberam ao longo dos muitos anos de história e existência preservar alguns dos seus monumentos mais antigos, a Arena romana é mais um desses exemplos uma vez que é considerado o mais bem conservado do género, batendo até o Coliseu em Roma.
One thing we can be sure, the inhabitants of the city of Nîmes have known over the many years of history and existence preserve some of its oldest monuments, the Roman Arena is one more of these examples since it is considered the best preserved of its type, even beating the Colosseum in Rome.
Maison Carrée – Nîmes, França
A primeira vez que vimos o Maison Carrée foi de noite, tínhamos acabado de encontrar um hotel que ficava do outro lado da rua e procurávamos um restaurante para jantar. De noite e com a sua iluminação parece que o tempo não passou por ele, quase imaginamos homens de toga a conversar enquanto circulam á volta do templo.
Mas antes de o visitar, tínhamos que tomar o pequeno-almoço e fizémo-lo na mesma praça onde está ubicado, assim podíamos saborear um bom croissant enquanto disfrutávamos da vista. Fizémo-lo no Café Carré.
The first time we saw Maison Carrée was at night, we had just found a hotel across the street and we were looking for a restaurant to have dinner. At night and with its lights it seems that time has not passed by, we almost imagine toga men talking while they walk around the temple.
But before we visited, we had to have breakfast and we made it in the same square where it is located, so we could taste a good croissant while enjoying the view. We made it at Cafe Carré.

Ponte Romana – Salamanca, Espanha
Saímos do “casco antiguo” para ver a ponte romana construída no século III sobre o Rio Tormes.Antes de chegar á ponte do lado esquerdo estava um monumento dedicado a “Lazarillo de Tormes” que é um romance do século XVI narrado na primeira pessoa e que conta a vida de Lazarillo, desde criança até á sua vida adulta. Não se sabem quem a escreveu dizem que pode ter sido um frade de Salamanca e talvez por isso a homenagem.
We left the “casco antiguo” (old town) to see the Roman bridge built in the third century over the Rio Tormes. Before you come to the bridge on the left side there was a monument dedicated to “Lazarillo de Tormes” which is a sixteenth-century novel narrated in the first-person and tell’s the story of Lazarillo’s life, from childhood until his adulthood. No one knows who wrote it some say it may have been a brother from Salamanca and so this tribute.

É o nosso segundo ano a visitar o principal Mercado de Natal de Madrid. O ano passado fizémo-lo de noite o que permitiu aproveitar as luzes de Natal que este ano são exactamente iguais, além disso fomos no inicio de Dezembro e estava mais vazio. Este Sábado estava cheio, demasiado até.
Sendo que o Natal é o tema aqui podemos encontrar de tudo um pouco desde a árvore,o musgo para o presépio, as figuras ou um já feito, decorações para a casa e para a árvore, etc..
It’s our second year visiting the main Christmas Market in Madrid. Last year we visited during the evening which allowed us to enjoy the Christmas lights that this year were exactly the same, besides we went in the beginning of December and it was less crowded. This saturday it was full.
Knowing that Christmas is the main theme what we can find here are things like the tree, the moss for the nativity set, the separate figures or a complete one, home decorations and for the tree, etc..
O que nos pareceu um grande êxito de vendas são os gorros do tema, há desde árvores e Pai Natal, lobos, renas, etc.. Quase todas as barraquinhas os vendem e pela a rua, as pessoas entram no espírito usando-os.
Este ano voltou também o carrousel, exactamente o mesmo do ano passado e no mesmo local. Se a ideia é que seja uma tradição ir a este Mercado de Natal então não se deve mexer em receita vencedora.
Aproveitámos para comprar alguns enfeites de Natal, os preços são os que encontramos nos hipermercados por exemplo. Isto significa que não vamos encontrar autênticas pechinchas mas também não vamos pagar mais caro, temos mais variedade por onde escolher e para quem gosta de montar presépios há barraquinhas que são autênticas preciosidades (que por sinal eram as que estavam mais cheias de gente) vendendo peça a peça, juntam-se as que vendem musgo e está feito.
Uma coisa é certa, a Plaza Mayor é o melhor local para fazê-lo e não pelo seu tamanho, mas pelo o seu entorno.
What looked to us like a best-seller were the Christmas hats, from trees, to Santa Claus to wolfs and reindeers, etc.. Almost every stall sells them and people get into the Christmas spirit wearing them as they walk down the street.
They also had the carrosel this year and in the same spot. If the general idea is that coming here is a tradition than you cannot change a winning recipe.
We did buy some Christmas decorations, the prices were in line to the ones we found in the hypermarkets. This means we won’t find great bargains but we won’t pay more either, there is a lot of variety and who love setting up a great nativity set there are stalls with a lot of precious things (those were actually the ones packed with people) selling piece by piece and then you have those that sell the moss and it’s done.
One thing is certain, the Plaza Mayor is the best place to do it not just for it’s size but also for the mood it sets.

Palácio Monterrey – Salamanca, Espanha
A inscrição na parede apresenta-nos o Palácio de Monterrey, construído no século XVI com tal grandeza que serviu como inspiração a muitos outros edificios construídos em Espanha.
Um excelente exemplo de um estilo artístico exclusivo do Renascimento Espanhol, o plateresco. Foi propriedade do Conde de Monterrey (que lhe deu o nome) e é actualmente da Duquesa de Alba, a famosa senhora de 85 anos de quem se diz ser proprietária de metade de Espanha e que é uma das mulheres mais conhecidas no seu país.
The inscription on the wall shows us the Monterrey Palace, built in the sixteenth century with such grandeur that served as an inspiration to many other buildings built in Spain.
An excellent example of a unique artistic style of the Spanish Renaissance, the plateresque. It was the property of the Count of Monterrey (who gave it the name) and is currently owned by the Duchess of Alba, the famous lady of 85 years who they say owns half of Spain and is one of the most famous women in her country.

Salamanca é uma das nossas cidades preferidas e sempre que calha passar por lá queremos ficar mais tempo. Nela passámos uma passagem de ano e há pouco tempo um fim de semana para revisitar alguns dos sitios que mais gostamos como a Plaza Mayor, a zona das Universidades, os seus bares e restaurantes, etc..

Salamanca is one of our favorite cities and whenever we pass through it we always want to stay longer. In it we spent a New Year’s eve and recently we went a weekend to revisit some of the places we like like the Plaza Mayor, the area of universities, its bars and restaurants, etc. ..

do: IGREJA SANTIAGO DEL BURGO – ZAMORA, ESPANHA
Vemos a Igreja de Santiago del Burgo a partir da Plaza de la Constituición e decidimos entrar para conhecer. Antes ainda vimos a placa de descrição do monumento que sendo pequeno tem uma das melhores placas explicativas que já vi assinalando com cores o século de construção de cada parte desta igreja. Também por essa placa ficámos a saber que não é claro o século em que foi construída se bem que eles dizem que é do XII mas poderia ter sido de finais do XI.
We saw the Santiago del Burgo Church from the Plaza de la Constituición (Constitución Square) and we decided to get in. Before we saw it’s description sign and although it is a small church it is one of the best information signs I’ve seen because it marks with colors the century each part was built.
Also through that sign we saw that it was not clear in which century it was first built, they mark it as from the XII century but it could have been from the end of the XI.
De estilo românico, é a única igreja para além da catedral que manteve a distribuição de três naves com alturas distintas. A torre foi adicionada pouco depois da sua construção inicial no século XII e foi reparada séculos mais tarde. O seu interior é simples com pequenas capelas, alguns quadros e um altar pequeno. A entrada é gratuita.
Built in a romanesque style, it is the only church besides the cathedral that has mantain it’s three naves with different hights. The tower was added soon after it’s initial building in XII century and repared many years later. Inside it is quite simple with little chapels, some paintings and small altar. The entrance is free.

PÁTIO DAS ESCOLAS – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA
Descíamos a rua dos Libreros quando um aglomerado de pessoas a olhar para um edificio nos fez perceber que era algo de importante. Salamanca é uma cidade conhecida pelas suas universidades, por receber muitos estrangeiros que nela querem estudar e o motivo que fazia tanta gente olhar para um edificio, era não só a sua fantástica fachada mas também o facto de ser a Escola Maior da Universidade de Salamanca, uma das mais antigas do mundo.
We walked down the street of Libreros when a crowd looking at a building made us realize that it was something important. Salamanca is a city known for its universities, to receive many foreigners who want to study and the reason that so many people look were at a building, it was not only his fantastic facade but also the fact that it is the Higher School of the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest in the world.
