Desde que começámos a nossa aventura em busca da melhor “hamburguesa” de Madrid que o New York Burger estava no topo da lista de recomendados. 
Ao entrar a zona do balcão faz acreditar que estamos a entrar num restaurante de hamburguers gourmet e quando entramos na sala de refeições o ambiente é mais descontraído, as toalhas são de papel e as paredes têm quadros dedicados á cidade que dão nome ao sitio. 

Tínhamos lido comentários e todos falavam do excelente atendimento, infelizmente não fomos na melhor noite digamos que não foi falta de competência mas sim falta de simpatia, aquela que tanto elogiaram e que nos elevou as expectativas.
Demorámos algum tempo a escolher, a oferta é muita e todas com boas opções. Têm os hambuguers por gramagem que começa nas 160 gramas, nós comemos o 250 e foi mais que suficiente, será o tamanho normal. 
O meu era um Brooklyn que vem com queijo Philadelphia, bacon e cebola caramelizada, depois para acompanhamento podemos escolher entre uma salada “coleslaw”, batatas fritas ou assadas. Optei pela salada.
 
A primeira dentada no hamburguer lembrou-me todos os bons comentários que faziam sobre este restaurante. A luta pelo melhor hamburguer é renhida, há os defensores do New York Burger e os do Alfredo’s Barbacoa, a verdade é que são os dois muito bons e cada um á sua maneira. E quem sai a ganhar somos nós, porque podemos sempre escolher entre um e o outro (ainda que estejam sempre cheios).
Ainda comemos uma sobremesa, um cheese cake que não é o melhor do mundo e está longe de o ser mas não desilude. 
No final 30€ duas pessoas, sem entradas nem vinho, os hamburguers foram 10€ cada um o que para a qualidade que têm é um preço mais que razoável. Fomos ao da Calle Recoletos.

IGLESIA DE LA CLERECÍA – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA

Também conhecida como a Igreja do Espírito Santo, está numa esquina ao lado da Universidade Pontificia e em frente á Casa das Conchas.
Na sua fachada está uma escultura e uma inscrição em homenagem ao Rei e Rainha responsáveis pela construção desta igreja de estilo Barroco. Foi no século XVII e esse rei era Filipe III (também Rei de Portugal) e a sua mulher era Margarida de Áustria. Tal como outras obras feitas por ordem de Reis, Filipe III nunca chegou a ver esta completa uma vez que demorou um século a ficar terminada.

 

Also known as the Church of the Holy Spirit, it’s in a corner beside the Pontifical University and in front of the House of Shells (Casa das Conchas).
On its facade there’s a sculpture and an inscription in honor of the King and Queen responsible for the construction of this Baroque-style church. It was in the seventeenth century and that was King Philip III (also King of Portugal) and his wife was Margaret of Austria. Like other works done by order of Kings, Philip III never got to see this complete since it took a century to be finished.

Casa das Conchas – Salamanca, Portugal

Caminhando pela Rua Mayor encontramos a Casa das Conchas, que hoje funciona como biblioteca e posto de turismo.
Construída no séculos XV e XVI, era propriedade de Don Rodrigo Maldonado de Talavera um cavaleiro da Ordem de Santiago cujo escudo continha uma concha. Foi reitor da Universidade de Salamanca e membro do Conselho Real durante o reinado dos Reis Católicos. Segundo o Wikipedia, são 300 as conchas que decoram o edificio, preferimos acreditar neles que contá-las (se bem que não nos pareceram ser tantas).
Walking by Rua Mayor we found the House of Shells (Casa das Conchas), which now serves as a library and tourist office.
Built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, was owned by Don Rodrigo Maldonado from Talavera a knight of the Order of Santiago whose coat of arms contained a shell. He was dean of the University of Salamanca and a member of the Royal Council during the reign of the Catholic Kings. According to Wikipedia, there are 300 shells that decorate the building, we prefer to believe them than to count them (although it did not seem to be many).

MESÓN EL CHURRASCO – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA

A oferta gastronómica em Salamanca é bastante boa e os produtos da região são normalmente as estrelas dos pratos, seguramente que haverá outros restaurantes pelas suas ruas com melhor relação preço-qualidade que o Mesón El Churrasco mas mesmo antes de chegar já tínhamos decidido que era aqui que queríamos comer.
The gastronomic offer in Salamanca is very good and the products of the region are often the stars of the dishes, surely there will be other restaurants along its streets with better value for money than the Meson El Churrasco but even before arriving we had already decided that we wanted to eat there.

Não porque vimos na internet um blog ou site que o recomendava, não porque o seu menú tinha óptimo aspecto mas para reviver o bom tempo que passámos aqui há dez anos atrás quando procurávamos um sitio para comer e numa altura em que pouco se pesquisava na internet sobre estes locais. Fomos á aventura e quando pedimos a “parrilla” de carnes os nossos olhos brilharam. Queríamos que eles voltassem a brilhar mesmo sabendo que não íamos comer no melhor restaurante de Salamanca.
O espaço estava na mesma, mas agora a “barra” (balcão) mostrava uma quantidade de tapas com tão boa pinta que quase vacilámos entre prová-las ou pedir a “parrilla” que tão boa memória nos deixou.
Not because we had seen it on an internet site or a blog that was recommending it, not because the menu looked good but to relive the good time we spent here ten years ago when looking for a place to eat and at a time when we did little researching on the internet for these locations. It was an adventure and when we asked the meat “parrilla” our eyes gleamed. We wanted them to shine again even knowing we would not eat at the best restaurant in Salamanca.
The space was the same, but now the “bar” (counter) showed a number of tapas that looked so good that almost made us falter between tasting them or order the “parrilla” that left us such a good memory.

 

Lá estava ela na ementa a “Parrillada de Carne” para duas pessoas, um pouco mais cara do que nos pareceu nessa altura e nem me lembrava que carnes levava então, mas 22€ por pessoa pareceu-nos exagerado.

 

 

Na chapa estava um delicioso “solomillo”, umas costeletas de cordeiro, entremeada, febras e entrecosto. Que saudades.
No final a conta foi pesada, uns 60€ para dois (bom três contando com uma criança que come um prato também) mas sem vinho e sobremesa, creio que pagamos também pela sua localização já que está na Rua Mayor.
There it stood in the menu the Meat “Parrillada” for two people, a little more expensive than we thought at that time and didn’t even remember the kinds of meat  it had then but 22 € per person it seemed exaggerated.
On the grill there was a delicious “solomillo”, some lamb chops, flank, ribs and pork.
In the end the bill was heavy, about 60 € for two (well three counting a child eating a dish too) but without wine and dessert, I believe that we also payed for its location as it is in Mayor Street.

CATEDRAL NOVA – SALAMANCA, ESPANHA

A enaltecer a linha panorâmica de Salamanca está a Catedral Nueva de la Asunción de la Virgen, construída ao lado da Catedral Vieja.
A primeira vista que temos dela é desde a Praça de Anaya onde podemos ver duas portas, a do Norte e a de Ramos. Esta última recebe o seu nome do Domingo de Ramos, dia em que Jesus entrou em Jerusalém e cujo evento se encontra representando através das esculturas que vemos por cima da porta.
Enhancing the panoramic view of Salamanca is the Catedral Nueva de la Asunción de la Virgen, built beside the Cathedral Vieja.
The first view we have of it is from the Plaza de Anaya where we can see two doors the North and the Palm. The latter gets its name from Palm Sunday, the day Jesus entered Jerusalem and whose event is represented through sculptures that we see over the door.

Plaza Mayor – Salamanca, Espanha

Por mais vezes que visite Salamanca e entre nesta praça, não consigo deixar de ficar surpreendida pela sua dimensão e beleza. É a terceira vez que a vejo e ainda assim parece que estou ali pela primeira vez. Exploro sem pressa e vou tirando fotos, muitas por sinal.
Para mim é das mais bonitas praças de Espanha (facto: não conheço todas) maior que a de Madrid que é a capital e esta, numa passagem de ano torna-se pequena para albergar tanta gente que nela deixa o ano velho para entrar da melhor maneira no novo.
I can visit Salamanca and this square as many as I can, and I still can’t help but be surprised by its size and beauty. It’s the third time I’ve seen it and yet it seems that I’m there for the first time. I explore it unhurriedly and take pictures, many by the way.
For me it is the most beautiful squares in Spain (fact: I don’t know them all) bigger than that of Madrid that is the capital and in it, in a New Year’s Eve  it becomes small to accommodate so many people that it leaves the old year to get in the new one the best way.

Esta rua liga duas importantes praças de Estrasburgo, a Gutenberg e a Kléber, esta última é a maior da cidade e onde está localizado um dos mais importantes edificios, o Aubette.
Esta é a rua onde encontramos as marcas mais comerciais como a Sephora, a Oysho, a Promod, a adidas, a Morgan entre outras.

This road connects two important squares in Strasbourg, Gutenberg and Kléber, the latter is the largest in the city and where it is located one of the most important buildings, the Aubette.
This is the street where we found the most commercial brands such as Sephora, the Oysho, Promod, adidas, Morgan among others.

Apresenta uma mistura do estilo arquitectónico que caracteriza a região e um outro mais comum por toda a França de edificios simples com arcadas no piso térreo. Fomos num dia em que as lojas estavam fechadas perdendo o reboliço desses dias, a rua é bastante larga mas não é dificil imaginá-la cheia de gente com sacos de compras nas mãos.
 
It features a mix of architectural style that characterizes the region and another more common throughout France for simple buildings with arcades on the ground floor. We went on a day when the shops were closed losing the commotion of the busy days, the street is quite wide but it is not hard to imagine it full of people with shopping bags in hand.

 

 
São também de visitar as pequenas ruas que desembocam na Grandes Arcades, por elas encontramos outro tipo de loja das que não existe em mais nenhum lugar ou um pequeno “bistrot” ou “patisserie”.
E não podia faltar o toque colorido das flores que vemos por todos os lados da cidade mas que aqui se juntam para pedir que as levem para casa. 
 
It’s also worth visiting the small streets that lead to the Grandes Arcades, for in them you might found another type of store that does not exist anywhere else or a small “bistro” or “patisserie”.
And it could not miss the touch of colorful flowers we see everywhere in town but here they come together to ask to bring them home.
 

É quase impossível visitar Estrasburgo sem passar nesta rua, talvez menos charmosa que outras da cidade mas de vital importância para ligar duas praças dedicadas a dois homens marcantes da sua história: Gutenberg e Kléber (Jean-Baptiste Kléber que nasceu na cidade e foi o comandante das forças militares de Napoleão no Egipto). 
 
It’s almost impossible to visit Strasbourg without passing by this street, perhaps less charming than others in town but vital connecting two squares dedicated to two striking men in its history: Gutenberg and Kléber (Jean–Baptiste Kléber was born in the city and was the commander military forces of Napoleon in Egypt).

Para nós, um dos grandes encantos de Estrasburgo é a zona junto ao Rio Ill. No seguimento da Quai des Bateliers, a Quai St-Nicolas é uma das mais notáveis da cidade com os seus prédios antigos, alguns garantem vista para o rio desde o século XVI.
Mantendo o seu cunho medieval como quem pede para o tempo não avançar, a zona da Quai de St. Nicolas vive do comércio e da restauração e é fácil imaginarmos todos os dias a passar por aqui deslumbrados como se fosse a primeira vez. 
 
For us, one of the great charms of Strasbourg is the area along the river Ill. Following the Quai des Bateliers, the Quai St-Nicolas is one of the most remarkable in the city with its ancient buildings, some guarantee a view to the river since the sixteenth century.
Keeping it’s medieval mark like someone that ask time to stand still, the area of Quai de St. Nicolas lives of trade and restaurants and it’s easy to imagine coming here everyday and be dazzled as if for the first time.

A essência da cultura da Alsácia está bem presente nesta rua e talvez por isso seja justo colocar aqui o Musée Alsacien. No seu interior várias peças sejam decorativas ou de uso diário, ligadas ao mundo rural e á região.  
É daqueles museus cheios de charme em que cada pequeno objecto conta uma história, uma forma de viver. 
 
The essence of the Alsace culture is very present in this street and maybe it’s only fair to put here the Musée Alsacien. Inside there are several decorative pieces or of everyday use, linked to rural areas and to the region.
It is those museums full of charm where each small object tells a story, a way of living.

Seguimos pela a rua até cruzarmos a ponte que liga á Rue de la Division Leclerc. As flores dão mais um toque de cor á cidade e o moderno eléctrico contrasta com o entorno antigo.
É uma rua excelente para um passeio.
 
We stayed in the Street until we crossed  the bridge that connects to the Rue de la Division Leclerc. The flowers give a touch of color to the city and the modern electrical contrasts with the surrounding old.
It’s a great street for a stroll.

Quando chegámos a Estrasburgo estacionámos o carro nesta praça, o nosso principal objectivo era visitar a Catedral mas a verdade é que acabámos por ficar um pouco mais a conhecê-la.
Ao centro a estátua do homem que dá o nome á praça: Johannes Gutenberg. Nascido na Alemanha, ele foi o inventor da prensa móvel e foi o mote da Revolução da Imprensa, estávamos no século XV em que uma cópia do livro era feita á mão e o prazo de entrega era: eternidade. Com a sua invenção tornou-se mais fácil fazer cópias de livros e imprimir boletins informativos, começa a era da informação.
Quando se muda para Estrasburgo começa a produzir uma cópia da Biblia, na altura demorou 5 anos a fazer e tirou o emprego aos monges.
 
When we arrived in Strasbourg we parked the car in this square, our main objective was to visit the Cathedral but the truth is that we ended up staying a little longer to know it.
At the center the statue of the man who gives the name to the square: Johannes Gutenberg. Born in Germany, he was the inventor of the printing press and  was the motto for the Revolution of the Press, we were in the fifteenth century in which a copy of the book was done by hand and it was delivery time: eternity. With his invention  it became easier to make copies of books and print newsletters, the information era begins.
When moving to Strasbourg he begins producing a copy of the Bible, that time it took 5 years to make and the monks were out of a job.

Fomos na época da Páscoa e havia do pequeno mercado com decorações alusivas a época e os tradicionais ovos de chocolate, para além de alguns divertimentos para crianças como um carousel.
Um dos edificios mais importantes da praça é o da Câmara de Comércio e Indústria de Estrasburgo. Antes de ser a sede para Câmara de Comércio funcionava como Câmara Municipal tornando-a praça num dos locais mais importantes da cidade. O seu estilo arquitectónico deriva do renascentismo alemão.
Também da praça começamos a ver a Catedral já que a Rue Merciere sai da Place Gutenberg até á praça onde está fica este importante monumento de Estrasburgo. 
 
We went at Easter time and there was a market with small decorations alluding season and the traditional chocolate eggs, plus some amusements for children like a carousel.
One of the most important buildings of the square is the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Strasbourg. Before being the headquarters for the Chamber of Commerce it was the Town Hall making this square one of the most important places of the city. Its architectural style is derived from the German Renaissance.
Also from the square we can see the Cathedral as the Rue Merciere comes out of the Place Gutenberg until the square where it’s located this important monument of Strasbourg.
