Majadahonda ou como lhe chamam por aquí “Manhattan”, tem um bom conjunto de espaços verdes e de lazer que faz com que seja um dos sitios ideais (fora do centro de Madrid) para viver com crianças. O Parque Colón não é um dos maiores mas tem uma zona polidesportiva onde podes ver jogar futebol ou basket (“baloncesto” como dizem por aqui), tem espaços verdes para deitar ao sol a ler um livro, um parque infantil, etc..
 
Majadahonda or as they call it around here “Manhattan”, has a good set of green spaces and leisure that makes it one of the ideal places (outside the center of Madrid) to live with children. The Parque Colón is not one of the largest but has a multi-sports area where you can see them play football or basketball (“baloncesto” as they say here), has green spaces to lay down soaking up the sun while reading a book, a children’s playground, etc..


E tal como Colón (Colombo) foi todo um descobrimento porque ao final de três anos a viver aqui e passar por ele várias vezes só hoje o fomos realmente conhecer. Foi no primeiro (e verdadeiro) dia de sol do ano em que comemos no El Retoque e ficámos por ali a dar um passeio com o bébé enquanto mais crescido jogava á bola.
Não sei muito sobre o parque apenas que enche aos fins de semana, que quando me dá vontade de comer churros têm uma roulote que vende (ou vendia) e que há alguns eventos importantes da cidade que têm lugar aqui.
 
And as Colón (Columbus) this was a whole discovery because after three years of living here and going through it several times just today we really got to know it. It was the first (and true) sunny day of the year we ate at El Retoque and we were there for a walk with the baby while the more grown was playing football.
I do not know much about the park only that it gets packed in the weekends, when I feel like eating churros they have an RV that sells (or sold) here and that there are some important events in the city that take place here.

Finalmente um fim de semana com bom tempo permitiu-nos sair para dar um passeio e comer numa esplanada. Escolhemos a Taberna El Retoque que fica junto ao Parque Colón e á Gran Via em Majadahonda. Na realidade estava bastante frio fora ainda assim decidimos “insistir” na esperança que o sol chegasse á nossa mesa.
 
Finally a weekend with good weather allowed us to go for a walk and eat on a terrace. We chose Taberna El Retoque which is next to Parque Colón and Gran Via in Majadahonda. In fact it was quite cold outside yet we “insisted” in the hope that the sun would come to our table.


El Retoque é a versão tapas de um outro restaurante que se chama El Toque, nenhuma das duas é uma opção barata mas queríamos um sitio para comer bem. Escolhemos três tapas uma de tiritas de frango panadas com molho agridoce (íamos com o nosso filho e é uma boa opção para crianças), uma de “huevos rotos” (um clásico) e também calamaritos.
Estava tudo bom mas pergunto-me se valem os 12€ de média que pagas por cada um, principalmente no caso dos calamares que estavam rijos. Uma coisa é certa saímos com a sensação de que pedimos muita comida porque no fim já não conseguíamos comer mais, o pão é óptimo e quando pedes algo para beber trazem sempre uma tapa de cortesia.
A sua proximidade á Gran Via e ao mercado de Majadahonda faz com que seja um clássico aos Sábados depois das compras. 
No final pagámos 46€ para duas pessoas (e uma criança), podíamos ter pago menos cortando numa tapa que pedimos a mais.  
 
El Retoque is a version of another tapas restaurant called El Toque, neither is a cheap option but we wanted a place to eat well. We choose three tapas one of Little strips of fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce (we went with our son and it’s a good option for kids), one of “huevos rotos” (a classic) and also “calamaritos”.
Everything was good but I wonder if it was worth the 12 € of average paid for each, especially in the case of squids that were stiff. One thing is for sure we left with the feeling that we ask a lot of food because in the end we could not ever eat more, the bread is great and when you ask for something to drink they always bring a  complimentary “tapa”.
Its proximity to the Gran Via and the Majadahonda market makes it a classic on Saturday after shopping.
In the end we paid 46€ for two people (and a child), we could have paid less cutting one “tapa” that we ordered that was extra.

A minha visita a Bremen como disse anteriormente foi a trabalho por isso o hotel onde fiquei foi escolha da organização. Na verdade foi uma excelente opção porque estava no centro da cidade muito perto da Marktplatz.
Não seria porém a minha primeira escolha e simplesmente por uma questão de preço, porque é um excelente hotel.
 
My visit to Bremen as I said earlier was to work so the hotel where I stayed was chosen by the organization. Actually it was an excellent choice because it was in the city center very close to Marktplatz.
But it would not be my first choice and simply for a matter of price, because it is an excellent hotel.


Os quartos são espaçosos e muito funcionais e a casa de banho era moderna. O pequeño-almoço era buffet com uma excelente variedade. Não tenho nada a apontar apenas os 139€ por noite que realmente valem o conforto mas que numa situação normal estaría fora do meu preço psicológico para um hotel citadino.
 
The rooms are spacious and very functional and the bathroom was modern. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a good variety. I have nothing to point out only  the 139€ per night that are really worth the comfort but in a normal situation it would be out of my psychological price for a city hotel.

Esta é mais emblemática praça da cidade de Madrid, é para ela que se dirigem os madrilenhos quando querem celebrar ou por ela passam quando se querem manifestar contra o governo.
É também das mais famosas fora de Espanha graças a todas as celebrações ligadas ao mundo do futebol com as vitórias nos Campeonatos Europeus e no Mundial levam uma multidão á sua fonte no centro. Também para um dos clubes da cidade ela é o local de celebração, o ano passado os vencedores do Campeonato Espanhol, o Real Madrid vieram aqui festejar mais um título que culminou com um Iker Casillas a colocar um cachecol á volta do pescoço da deusa Cibeles.
 
This is most emblematic square of Madrid, to it “madrileños” go when they want to celebrate or pass by it when they want to speak out against the government.
It is also the most famous outside Spain thanks to all the celebrations connected with the world of football with victories in the European Championships and the World Cup bring a crowd to its source in the center. Also for one of the clubs in the city it is the place of celebration, last year the winners of La Liga, Real Madrid came here to celebrate another title that culminated with Iker Casillas placing a club’s scarf around the neck of the goddess Cibeles.

Thyssen -Bornemisza – Madrid, Espanha

Duas curiosidades: a primeira é que este era o museu que nos faltava para completar o famoso triângulo da Arte, a segunda é que os anteriores visitei antes de viver em Madrid o que significa que tive três anos sem completar esse mesmo triângulo.
E se me perguntam de qual gostei mais não conseguiría responder, mas se só tens um dia em Madrid e tens que escolher um eu talvez deixasse este para último. O Prado tem pintores espanhóis dos séculos XVII e XVIII (como Goya e Velázquez) e o Reina Sofia tem mais modernos como Picasso (com o seu famoso “Guernica”), Dali e Miró.
Two curiosities: the first is that this was the museum that we needed to visit to complete the famous Art Triangle, the second is that the others I visited before living in Madrid which means that Ithree years without completing that same triangle.
And if you ask me which one I liked most I could not answer, but if you only have one day in Madrid and you have to choose one I might leave this one to last. The Prado has Spanish painters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (as Goya and Velázquez) and the Reina Sofia has more modern as Picasso (with its famous “Guernica”), Dali and Miró.

Tivémos direito a um dia livre sem os miúdos e decidimos ir ao Museu Thyssen, o único que nos faltava do famoso triângulo de museus ao qual se junta o Reina Sofia e o Prado.
Para aproveitarmos o tempo ao máximo fomos cedo até Madrid e em vez de almoçar porque era cedo decidimos procurar um restaurante com “brunch” e assim chegámos ao Revoltosa que fica na Plaza del Rey perto da Gran Vía e do Instituto Cervantes.
 
We had a day off without the kids and we went to the Thyssen Museum, the only one missing in the famous triangle of museums which has the Reina Sofia and the Prado.
To take maximum advantage of our time in Madrid we went up early and instead of lunch because it was soon  we decided to find a restaurant with “brunch” and so we found the Revoltosa which is in Plaza del Rey near the Gran Vía and the Instituto Cervantes.

 
Ao entrar podemos ler que é uma tasca para gatos, a comida é para gatos e a bebida? Para Gatos. Ao principio pensas que são fãs de gato e depois vais ao seu website e entendes, tudo faz sentido. A decoração mantendo o seu estilo de tasca castiça com uma cadeira de cada tipo, o bar decorado com peças antigas (ou “vintage” que está mais na moda) , etc.. Os gatos era o nome que se davam aos madrilenhos mais castiços e boémios que antes da “movida” no século XVII já enchiam as tabernas durante a noite.
 
Upon entering we read that it is a tavern for cats, food is for cats and the drinks? For Cats. At first you think they are cat fans then you go to their website and understand it all makes sense. The décor keeping with it’s typical tavern style with a chair of each type, the bar decorated with antique pieces (or “vintage” which is more trendy), etc. .. Cats was the name given to the people the most characteristical and bohemian of Madrid than before the “movida” in the seventeenth century already filled the taverns overnight.
 
Mas nós não fomos para beber um Vermut, ou umas Cañas ou tomar uns Mojitos. Fomos pelo “brunch” e acho que voltaríamos outra vez para isso. Por 14,5€ servem-te três bebidas: um sumo natural á escolha, uma bebida para acompanhar a refeição (pode ser cerveja ou refrigerante) e a bebida quente para a sobremesa
Não pareceu o típico “brunch” faltaram os ovos benedict e os bagels. Dos pratos escolhes um e tem poucas opções: o Hamburguer castiço (recomendamos estava óptimo), os Huevos Rotos (ovos estrelados com batatas fritas) com presunto (que comemos e gostámos) e uma sandes de presunto.
Uma nota especial para o Hamburguer Castiço, estava óptimo. A carne do hamburguer era boa mas a combinação com o molho “ali-oli”, o presunto, o queijo “manchego” e o pão (que não era o típico) fazem-no estar no top dos hamburguers de Madrid.
Depois escolhes uma sobremesa entre muffins de chocolate, cheesecake e bolo de cenoura. Escolhemos os dois últimos e estavam bons, adorei o bolo de cenoura cuja receita parecía uma que eu tinha feito de um pré-preparado (da Betty Crocker) que comprei na Delishop.
Pareceu-me mais “lunch” que “brunch” mas não faz mal, estava óptimo!E por 29€ duas pessoas não foi caro para preços da cidade.
 
But we didn’t go to drink Vermut, or some Cañas or sip Mojitos. We went for the “brunch” and I think we would return again for it. You pay 14,5€ and they serve you three drinks: a natural juice, a choice of beverage to accompany the meal (can be beer or soda) and a hot drink for dessert.
It did not seem the typical “brunch” it lacked the eggs benedict and bagels. You choose one of mains that has few options: Burger Castiço (recommended it was great), the Huevos rotos (scrambled eggs with fried potatoes) with ham (we eat and liked) and a ham sandwich.
A special note to Castiço Burger  that was very good. The beef burger was good but the combination with the sauce “ali-oli”, ham, cheese “Manchego” and the bread (which was not typical) made it be on top of Madrid’s hamburgers.
Then  you choose between a dessert of chocolate muffins, cheesecake and carrot cake. We chose the last two and they were good, I loved the carrot cake which looked like a recipe I had made from a pre–prepared (Betty Crocker) I bought at Delishop.
It seemed more “lunch” than “brunch” but it didn’t matter, it was great! And for 29 € two people it was not to expensive prices in town.

Para quem trabalha na zona de Boadilla del Monte o El Buey não é nenhum desconhecido. Quando podes dar-te ao luxo de comer bem sem te importar muito quanto vais pagar este é o sitio que escolhes. Não que seja muito caro mas barato não é de certeza.
Tal como o nome indica, a carne é a sua especialidade e foi por isso que fomos.
 
For those who work in the area of the El Monte Boadilla, El Buey is no stranger. When you can give yourself the luxury of eating well without much care of how much you’re going to pay this is the place that you can choose. Not that it is very expensive but is certainly not cheap.
As the name implies, beef is their specialty and that’s why we went.

A sala é acolhedora e com aspecto muito cuidado, é excelente para levar crianças e vimos de facto muitas familias a comer. Não é própriamente o sitio da moda, é daqueles lugares que vais de vez em quando com a familia porque conheces bem e gostas da comida cuja qualidade segundo me dizem é constante.
Logo quando nos sentamos trouxeram pão, azeite e uns trocitos de queijo (muito bom por sinal). Depois para começar pedimos uma salada de bonito que estava óptima e bem temperada. Além disso pedimos os famosos “Huevos Rotos” (ovos estrelados que depois abrimos a parte de gema para espalhar nas batatas) sobre cama de presunto, também estavam bons, imagino que será difícil falhar este prato.
Mesmo depois de tudo isto ainda tivémos coragem de pedir um “entrecote de buey” (lombo de vaca grelhado) e sobremesa, uma fatia de cheesecake. Pagámos uma média de 25€ por pessoa (sem vinho) contando com o miúdo mas comemos bem.
 
The room is cozy and with a careful look, it’s excellent for children and indeed we saw many families eating there. Not exactly the place of fashion, in is one of those that you go from time to time with the family because you know it well and the food quality which I am told is constant.
As soon as we sat down they brought bread, olive oil and cheese (very good by the way). Then to start we ordered a “bonito” (skipjack tuna) salad that was pretty great and well seasoned. Also we tasted the famous “Huevos rotos” (fried eggs which then opened the yolk part to spread the potatoes) on a bed of ham they were also good, I imagine it will be difficult to miss this dish.
Even after all of that we had the courage to even ask for a “entrecote of buey” (grilled sirloin) and dessert, a slice of cheesecake. We paid an average of € 25 per person (without wine) counting the kid but we ate well.

O bom tempo é sempre uma boa influência quando vais passear a algum lado, quando chove, está nublado, ou faz muito vento isso altera completamente a experiência que tens ao conhecer um lugar. Creio que foi isso que me aconteceu ao ver a Praia de S. Telmo, também é certo que eu não sou uma grande fã das praias de areia negra mas até seria capaz de experimentar se as águas assim o permitissem.
 
Good weather is always a good influence when you are talking a walk somewhere, when it rains, is cloudy, windy or it completely changes the experience that you have to know a place. I think that’s what happened to me when I saw the S. Telmo beach, it is also true that I‘m not a big fan of black sand beaches but I would have liked to try the water if they allowed it too.

A zona norte de Tenerife é mais instável em termos de tempo, é complicado vir em Fevereiro e pensarmos que estamos no Verão mas viémos numa altura particularmente “cinzenta” (e ainda bem que foi a trabalho não a lazer) e retirou-lhe alguma beleza.
Segundo a placa informativa esta é uma praia de bandeira azul e preocupada com a imagem com que fiquei dela pus-me a pesquisar mais imagens na internet e vi que realmente nos seus dias bons, naqueles em que as nuvens deixam brilhar o sol e a maré está mais tranquila entre as rochas formam-se pequenas piscinas óptimas para ir a banhos.
Eu gostei de ficar a ver as ondas a baterem nas rochas vulcânicas e fui aproveitando para treinar a fotografia a capturar esses momentos.
 
The north área of Tenerife is more unstable in terms of time, it’s complicated to come here in February and think it’s summer but we came at a particularly “gray” time (lucky for me it was to work and not for pleasure) and took away some of her beauty .
According to the information board this is a blue flag beach and I was concerned about the image that I had of it that I began to see some pictures on the internet and saw that in a really good day, where the clouds let the sun shine and the tide is quite peaceful the rocks make small pools great for bathing.
I liked staying there and watching the waves hit the volcanic rocks and enjoying some photography practice to capture those moments.

Não poderia fazer um post da Ermida separada da Igreja porque na realidade essa separação não existe. São duas portas, dois nomes diferentes mas ao entrar podes ver as duas. Não encontrei muito informação sobre elas mas do que pude ler faziam parte de um convento franciscano, antes disso a Ermida tinha sido dedicada a S. João Baptista.
Foram construídas nos séculos XVI e XVII e no seu interior podemos ver alguns dos retablos mais bonitos da ilha.
 
I could not make a separate post of the Chapel and the Church because in reality there is no such separation. There are two doors, two different names but upon entering you can see both. I did not find much information about them but from what I read  they were part of a Franciscan convent, before that the Chapel was dedicated to S. Juan Bautista.
They were built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and inside we can see some of the island’s most beautiful altarpieces.

Gostei muito desta igreja mesmo depois de ter visitado a Igreja de N.S. de la Peña de Francia que é a principal de Puerto de la Cruz. Ainda que pequena os seus retablos trabalhados, os quadros que os decoram e as imagens de alguns Santos como o do próprio S. João Baptista fazem valer a pena a visita.
 
I really liked this church even after visiting the church Our Lady of la Peña de Francia that is the main one of Puerto de la Cruz. Although it was small it’s small decorated altarpieces, the paintings used in them and the images of some Saints like it’s own S. Juan Bautista make it worth the visit.

Quem a vê de fora não diría que é do século XVII, parece na realidade mais recente e talvez seja a sua torre construída no final do século XIX que nos leve a pensá-lo. Não entrei pela porta principal e mesmo assim fui logo surpreendida pelos três altares que se dividem pelas três naves da igreja. O que tinham de comum era a riqueza do trabalho decorativo para além de varias figuras importantes veneradas pela gente do Puerto de la Cruz.
 
Who sees it wouldn’t problaby say it’s from the seventeenth century, in reality in looks more recent and perhaps it is it’s tower built in the late nineteenth century that leads us to think so. I did not go through the front door and even I was surprised by the three altars that divide the three naves of the church. What they had in common was the rich decorative work in addition to several important figures venerated by the people of Puerto de la Cruz.

O altar-mor decorado com estilo barroco tem como figura central a Santa que dá o nome á igreja, N.S. de la Peña de Francia. Num outro retablo a figura da Virgen de la Carmen, uma das mais veneradas pelos portuenses, colocada num retablo do século XVIII também ele decorado ao estilo barroco.
A entrada na igreja é gratuita e não tirei muito mais fotografías no seu interior porque entrei na hora da oração. Os seus retablos são sem dúvida a sua maior riqueza.
 
The main altar is decorated with baroque style, it has as the central figure the Saint that gives the name to the church, NS de la Peña de Francia. In another altarpiece the figure of Virgen de la Carmen, one of the most venerated by the “portuenses” (locals), placed in an eighteenth-century altarpiece also decorated in baroque style.
Admission is free and I did not take much photographs inside because I visited at a hour of prayer. It’s altarpieces are undoubtedly its greatest asset.
Em frente á igreja está um pequeno jardim cuja peça central é a sua fonte com uma escultura de um cisne. Junto ás escadas que dão acesso á Calle Quintana está uma escultura de Agustín de Betancourt y Molina, que nasceu nesta parte da ilha de Tenerife e cujos antepassados estão ligados á sua colonização. Foi um brilhante engenheiro que para além de Espanha também viveu na França e na Rússia.
 
In front of the church there is a small garden whose centerpiece is a fountain with a sculpture of a swan. Standing by the stairs that give access to Calle Quintana is a sculpture of Agustín de Betancourt y Molina, who was born in this part of the island of Tenerife and whose ancestors are linked to its colonization. It was a brilliant engineer who besides Spain also lived in France and Russia.
