A Plaza Mayor foi o último que visitámos em León, não é muito diferente a tantas outras praças Mayor com as suas arcadas, com a casa do municipio, as pequenas varandas e os cafés com esplanada mas a beleza de esta é que conservou o seu traçado típico. Foi construída no século XVII no Bairro Humedo e estava fora das muralhas medievais da cidade.
The Plaza Mayor was the last we visited in León, it is not very different of so many other Mayor squares with its arcades, the house of the municipality, small balconies and terrace cafés but the beauty of this is that it saved it’s original arquitecture. It was built in the seventeenth century in Humedo quarter and was outside the medieval city walls.

Rua 11 – León, Espanha

Decidimos não contratar pequeno-almoço no nosso hotel (era muito $$$$) e foi assim que chegámos ao Rua 11, sem ter que fazer uma grande caminhada. Achei que era bastante acolhedor por dentro e foi o que primeiro nos chamou a atenção, queríamos o típico pequeno-almoço espanhol: pan tostado con tomaca e café con leche, bom no meu caso era mais leite com chocolate. Tínhamos pedido umas fatias de bolo mas ao parecer eram oferta com os cafés o que foi ainda melhor.

We decided not to hire breakfast at our hotel (it was very $$$$) and that’s how we arrived at Rua 11, without having to do a great walk. Found it quite cozy inside and was what first caught our attention, we wanted the typical spanish breakfast: toasted bread con tomaca (tomato sauce) and cafe con leche, well in my case it was more chocolate milk. We had ordered a cake slices but apparently wthey ere offering them with the cafes which was even better.

BASÍLICA DE SAN ISIDORO – LEÓN, ESPANHA

Fernando I, o Rei de Leão consagrou esta igreja no século XI. A sua fachada de estilo românico tem na sua porta alguns elementos que ajudam a contar a sua história como por exemplo a porta do Cordeiro por onde entramos para conhecer a igreja tem do lado esquerdo uma escultura de S. Isidoro e do lado direito uma de Pelayo a quem originalmente estava dedicada. Passando a porta entramos num mundo de tranquilidade que nos acompanhou também na visita ao Panteão e ao Museu.
Fernando I, the Lion King consecrated this church in the eleventh century. The façade of the Romanesque style has on it’s door some elements that help tell its story such as Lamb’s door through which we enter to know the church has on the left a sculpture of St. Isidore and the right side a Pelayo to whom it was originally dedicated. Passing the door we enter a world of tranquility that accompanied us also the visit to the Pantheon and the Museum.

Casa Botines – León, Espanha

Tinha muita curiosidade para conhecer a Casa Botines uma obra de Antonio Gaudí fora de Barcelona construída no final do século XIX ainda com o estilo neo-gótico e modernista que tinha aplicado no Palácio Episcopal de Astorga. Antes uma sede de uma empresa textil é agora propriedade de um Banco o que significa que não a pudemos visitar.
I was very curious to see the Casa Botines a work of Antonio Gaudí outside Barcelona built in the late nineteenth century still with the neo-Gothic and modernist style that was applied in the Episcopal Palace of Astorga. Once a seat of a textile company is now property of a Bank which means that we could not visit it inside.

Calle Ancha – León, Espanha

Calle Ancha ou a Rua Larga é uma zona pedonal que liga a Praça de Santa Domingo com a de La Regla onde se encontra a Catedral, durante a nossa estadia em León passámos várias vezes por ela. Cruzamos a rua para ir de bairro em bairro na parte antiga da cidade, enquanto isso vamos encontrando lojas tradicionais sem ver grandes cadeias e franquicias excepto algum restaurante. A outra parte interessante da rua é a arquitectura.
Calle Ancha or Broad Street is a pedestrian zone linking the Plaza de Santa Domingo to La Regla where the Cathedral is located, during our stay in Leon we passed several times through it. We crossed the street to go from neighborhood to neighborhood in the old part of the city, meanwhile we are finding traditional stores without seeing large chains and franchises except some restaurants. The other interesting part of the street is the architecture.

MERCADO ROMANO – LEÓN, ESPANHA

Fomos surpreendidos pela Legião de soldados Romanos que invadiu as ruas de León, não sabíamos que tínhamos ido no fim de semana do Mercado que celebra o Natalicio da Águila (o nascimento da Águia o símbolo das legiões de Roma Antiga) cujo programa inclui o desfile das tropas, teatros, música pelas ruas, bancas que vendem productos artesanais e até uma zona de restaurante tudo com detalhes da época.
We were surprised by the Legion of Roman soldiers who invaded the streets of León, we knew that we had gone on the market of the weekend celebrating the Natalicio the Águila (the birth of the eagle symbol of the legions of ancient Rome) whose program includes the parade of troops, theaters, music in the streets, stalls selling handmade products and even a restaurant area with all details of the time.

Catedral de Santa Maria – León, Espanha

Aproveitámos um intervalo no calor que fazia em Espanha para marcar um fim de semana em León, capital da provincia e da comunidade autónoma de Castela e Leão é uma das cidades que tinha curiosidade por conhecer por dois monumentos que se destacam: a Catedral e a casa de los Botines criada por Gaudí.  Visitámos a primeira e confirmámos que é uma das mais bonitas que já vimos em Espanha.
We took a break from the hot weather in Spain to book a weekend in Leon, capital of the province and the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, is one of the cities that was curious to know  because of two monuments that stand out: the Cathedral and the House de los Botines created by Gaudí. We visited the first and confirmed that it is one of the nicest we’ve ever seen in Spain.

A caminho de Monfortinho decidimos parar em Plasencia para conhecer esta cidade da Extremadura que pertence ao municipio de Cáceres. Não levava nenhuma referencia a não ser algumas dicas sobre a gastronomia “extremeña” onde a grande estrela é o Jamón Ibérico de Bellota e a verdade é que ficámos surpreendidos com o seu centro histórico mantendo a arquitectura típica dos séculos XV e XVI  Não tivémos tempo de ver tudo porque foi uma paragem breve mas ficou a vontade de voltar talvez numa altura mais fresca porque já estava a temperatura bastante quente.
On the way to Monfortinho we decided to stop at Plasencia to know this city from Extremadura that belongs to the municipality of Cáceres. I did not take any references unless some tips on the gastronomy of “Extremadura” where the star is the Jamón Ibérico de Bellota and the truth is that we were surprised with its historic center maintaining the typical architecture of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries that we did not have much time to see everything because it was a brief break but it there is the will to return perhaps in a cooler time it was already quite hot.

Há muito tempo que seguia a blogger Lauren responsável pelo Spanish Sabores  (http://spanishsabores.com/), de certa forma identificava-me com a sua descoberta da cozinha espanhola e quando começou o Madrid Food Tours sabia que tinha que o fazer alguma vez. Foram faltando as oportunidades até que tive organizar uma reunião de trabalho com pessoas de vários países da Europa e nem foi preciso dar muitas voltas, organizei este Tour que explica a essência e história de Madrid através da sua grande cultura gastronómica.

For a long time I have been following the blogger Lauren responsible for Spanish Sabores (http://spanishsabores.com/), somehow I identified with her discovery of Spanish cuisine and when she began the Madrid Food Tours I knew I had to do it some day. Missing were the opportunities until I had to organize a working meeting with people from various countries of Europe and I didn’t had to think much about it, I organized this tour which explains the essence and history of Madrid through its great culinary culture.

Antes de um passeio pelo Retiro procurava um restaurante novo que pudesse ir com os nossos filhos, queria algo descontraído e que tivesse comida que gostam mas que fosse ao mesmo tempo diferente para nós, o Picsa foi um acerto nesse sentido. É uma pizzaria argentina com uma grande variedade á escolha e com uma curiosidade que é a adaptação de um conceito “mezze” – que são a versão de tapas de países como Líbano, Grécia e Turquia – ao estilo de cozinha argentino.
Before a tour by the Retiro I was looking for a new restaurant that we could go with our children, wanted something relaxed and  that had food they like but it was the same time different for us, the Picsa was a hit in that direction. It is an Argentine pizzeria with a wide range of choice and with a curiosity that is an adaptation of a concept “mezze” – which are the tapas version of countries like Lebanon, Greece and Turkey – to the Argentine style of cooking.
