Escolhemos a Brasserie Paul para o nosso único jantar em Rouen, neste restaurante queríamos provar alguns dos tradicionais pratos da região sendo que um dos mais conhecidos é o “Poulet á la Normande” (Frango da Normandia). Dizem que é a Brasserie mais antiga da cidade e está na Praça da Catedral, tem uma agradável esplanada mas nós optámos por ficar dentro onde a decoração era clássica mas simples.
We chose the Brasserie Paul for our only dinner in Rouen, in this restaurant we wanted to taste some of the traditional dishes of the region and one of the best known is the “Poulet á la Normande” (Chicken á la Normande). They say it’s the oldest Brasserie in the city and is located in the Cathedral Square, has a nice terrace but we opted to stay inside where the decor was classic but simple.

Rue des Chanoines – Rouen, França

Gostámos muito de Rouen, o cuidado em preservar os seus edificios de traçado medieval, o peso da história de Joana D’Arc, a boa gastronomia mas o primeiro post que escrevo sobre a cidade quis que fosse sobre a Rue des Chanoines, o meu lugar preferido em Rouen. Ao passear na Rua Saint-Romain encontramos o arco que dá acesso á pitoresca des Chanoines, uma das mais estreitas da cidade.

We really enjoyed Rouen, it’s care to preserve the medieval layout of buildings, the weight of the story of Joan of Arc, the good food but the first post I write about the city I wanted to be on the Rue des Chanoines, my favorite place in Rouen. When strolling the Rue Saint-Romain we  found the arch that gives access to the picturesque des Chanoines, one of the narrowest of the city.

Terminaram este fim de semana que passou as Fiestas Patronales de Majadahonda, conseguimos ainda ir a uma parte mas fica para 2015 a vontade de conhecer mais a fundo estas festas do nosso “pueblo” que juntam eventos religiosos, culturais e desportivos, uma feira medieval no centro, concertos com conhecidos artistas espanhóis (desconhecidos para nós) e esta zona de animação tipo Feira Popular que instalam no Recinto Ferial que foi o que visitámos no Sábado.
 
Ended this past weekendthe Fiestas Patronales Majadahonda, we were still able to go to one part but for 2015 there is the wish to discover more deeply these feasts of our “pueblo” that combine religious, cultural and sporting events, a medieval fair in the center, concerts with renowned Spanish artists (unknown to us) and this animation area like a Fun Fair that was installed in the Recinto Ferial that we visited on Saturday.

É excelente para levar crianças e divertem-se muito mas se me posso queixar de alguma coisa seria sem dúvida dos preços, cada viagem de qualquer coisa custa 3€ e se queres poupar dinheiro comprando mais quantidade tens que utilizar sempre no mesmo divertimento, se são muitas crianças no teu grupo faz sentido mas se são menos a brincadeira sai cara. Insufláveis, carrinhos de choque, trampolins entre outros divertimentos entretêm os mais novos e para os mais velhos havia um ou dois divertimentos interessantes como por exemplo o Carcel (a Prisão) ou um Top Flip que não se recomenda ir depois de comer.
Para além das atracções há uma zona para provar o algodão doce, os churros e os cachorros quentes. E do que provámos não nos podemos queixar da qualidade, o cachorro tinha uma generosa e saborosa salchicha de Pata Negra, os churros e as farturas (ou “porras”) comprámos na Sta. Cristina e comemos ainda uns “chipirones” fritos com molho ali-oli que foi o remate final para dizer: “Já não jantamos hoje”. A entrada é livre e a verdade é que o espaço não é assim tão grande por isso em hora de ponta enche.
 
It’s great to take the kids and they have a lot of fun but if I can complain about anything it would undoubtedly be the prices, each trip in any ride costs 3 € and if you want to save money by buying more quantity you must always use in the same, if there are many children in your group it makes sense but it is more expensive if it’s a small group. Inflatables, bumper cars, trampolines and other amusements entertain the younger and older had one or two interesting amusements such as the Carcel (Prison) or Top Flip is not recommended to go after eating.
Apart from the attractions there is an area to taste the cotton candy, churros and hot dogs. And from what we tasted we can not complain about the quality, the hot dog had a generous and tasty Pata Negra sausage, the churros and fritters (or “porras”) bought in Sta. Cristina and we also had some “chipirones” fried with ali-oli that was the final blow and made us say: “I no longer have to dine today.” Admission is free and the truth is that the space is not that big so it fills in rush hour.

Tinha algumas recomendações de restaurantes e o Méson Asador Carmelo era um deles. Fomos cedo para poder estar no Castelo de Belmonte por volta das quatro da tarde e ao entrar ficamos surpreendidos sua bela sala instalada no pátio de uma casa do século XVIII renovada em 1999. A palavra “asador” prometia boa carne na brasa e a carta tinha muitos dos pratos típicos da região.
 
Had some restaurant recommendations and the Meson Asador Carmelo was one of them. We went early to be at the Castle of Belmonte around four in the afternoon and when we got in we were surprised with it’s beautiful room installed in the courtyard of an eighteenth century house renovated in 1999. The word “asador” promised good barbecue meat and the menú had many of the typical dishes of the region.

Pedimos um menú que ficava por 28,5€ por pessoa, o primeiro prato traz enchidos da região incluído o queijo manchego. Um segundo prato era de degustação de receitas típicas de La Mancha com queijo manchego frito, o “pisto manchego” – verduras salteadas com molho de tomate, o “duelos y quebrantos” – ovos mexidos com chouriço e toucinho e uma salada de “capón” (frango do curral). Por esta altura já estávamos satisfeitos mas o menú incluía um prato de carne ou peixe á escolha que no nosso caso foi o entrecote.
A juntar a tudo isto a sobremesa também estava incluída e pedimos a Crema de Pastor para provar, estava óptima mas não consegui comer muito porque os miúdos também queriam provar. O Méson Carmelo foi uma boa experiência sem ser particularmente extraordinário, comemos bem e a um preço razoável.
 
We asked for a menu which was 28,5€ per person, the first dish was some cured meats including manchego cheese. A second dish was a tasting of the typical recipes of La Mancha with fried manchego cheese, “pisto manchego” – sautéed vegetables with tomato sauce, the “Duelos y Quebrantos” – scrambled eggs with chorizo ​​and bacon and a salad of “Capón” (chicken of the corral). By now we were satisfied but the menú also included a dish of meat or fish will choose which in our case was the entrecote.
Added to all this the dessert was also included and asked for a Crema de Pastor, it was fine but I could not eat much because the kids also wanted to taste it. The Méson Carmelo was a good experience without being particularly extraordinary, we ate well and at a reasonable price.

O nosso pequeno grupo de “conquistadores” de Castelos parou no caminho para Belmonte na bela cidade de Ocaña. Não conhecia muito sobre a sua história mas como muitas terras de Castela está também associada ao nome de Isabel, a Católica. Começámos pela sua bela Plaza Mayor encerrada como a de Madrid com pequenas varandas e arcadas onde podemos ver lojas, restaurantes e também o posto de Turismo.

Our small group of Castles “conquerors“ stopped on the way to Belmont in the beautiful city of Ocaña. Do not know much about its history but like many lands of Castile is also associated with the name of Isabella the Catholic. We started by its beautiful Plaza Mayor closed like the one in Madrid with small balconies and arcades where you can see shops, restaurants and also the Tourism post.

Construída durante o reinado de D. Carlos III foi palco de alguns acontecimentos históricos relevantes principalmente durante a Guerra da Independência em que uma parte do edificio do Ayuntamiento foi destruída na Batalha de Ocaña. Seguimos depois pela Calle Mayor até chegar ao Palácio de Don Gutierre de Cárdenas que não estava aberto porque funciona é também conhecido como Palácio da Justiça e deixam entrar mas apenas para ver o Pátio. Um local explicou-nos que ali tinha ficado hospedada a princesa Isabel antes de ser coroada Rainha de Castela, Cárdenas foi sempre um dos seus mais fieis conselheiros.
Seguimos pela rua Lope de la Vega onde está o Teatro com o mesmo nome do dramaturgo espanhol inaugurado em 1986 ocupando o antigo edificio do Colégio da Companhia de Jesus. No cruzamento com a Calle San Juan está um busto da Rainha Isabel, com a inscrição de que foi em Ocaña que se decidiu o seu casamento com Fernando de Aragão.
O último que vimos nesta cidade foi a Fuente Grande construída no século XVI e considerada uma colossal obra de engenharia hidráulica era uma zona de abastecimento de água com um grande tanque para lavar roupa. Almoçámos no Méson Carmelo e queremos voltar porque ainda não vimos tudo.
 
Built during the reign of King Carlos III was the scene of some important historical events especially during the War of Independence in which a part of the Ayuntamiento building was destroyed in the Battle of Ocaña. We followed later the Calle Mayor to reach the Palace of Don Gutierre de Cardenas that was not open because it’s also known as the Palace of Justice and let in but only to see the courtyard. A local told us that there the Palace had hosted Princess Isabel before being crowned Queen of Castile, Cárdenas was always one of her most loyal advisers.
We walked by the Lope de la Vega street where the theater of the same name from the Spanish playwrighter opened in 1986 occupying the old building of the College of the Society of Jesus. At the intersection with Calle San Juan there is a bust of Queen Elizabeth, with the inscription that it was in Ocaña that her marriage to Ferdinand of Aragon was decided.
The last thing we saw of this city was the Fuente Grande built in the sixteenth century and considered a colossal work of hydraulic engineering was an area of water supply with a large tank for washing. We had lunch at Meson Carmel and want to come back because we have not seen everything.

Com o Verão já no passado começa a temporada de: conquistar Castelos. Uma animada actividade que fazemos como desculpa para tirar as crianças de casa ao fim de semana e cumpre também um objectivo cultural de conhecer um pouco da história de Espanha e neste caso, um pouco da de Portugal também. Tinha dois castelos no plano decidimos ir este Sábado a um que estava mais longe de Madrid, o de Belmonte.

With summer already in the past season begins: to conquer Castles. A lively activity we do as an excuse to take the kids out of the house in the weekend and also fulfills a cultural purpose of learning about the history of Spain and in this case, a bit of Portugal also. Had two castles on the plane this Saturday we decided to go to one that was further away from Madrid, the Belmonte.

Fête des Tuileries – Paris, França

O Verão é sinónimo de festas, assim é em Portugal com as festas das aldeias, em Espanha o mesmo e onde vivemos há uma em Setembro e a grande cidade de Paris tem as Fête des Tuileries. Aproveitámos o nosso passeio pelo Jardim para passar por aqui, era cedo e o tempo ameaçava chuva por isso não estava muito cheia mas ainda assim foi óptimo para divertir-nos um pouco.

Summer is synonymous of festivities, so it is in Portugal with the ones done in the small villages, in Spain the same and where we live there is one in September, the great city of Paris has the Fête des Tuileries. We took our stroll through the garden to come by, it was early and the weather was threatening rain so it was not too crowded but it was still great to have a little bit of fun.

Jardin des Tuileries – Paris, França

Das primeiras vezes que fiquei em Paris lembro-me que um dos meus lugares preferidos era o Jardim do Luxembourg, aquela ideia de passar uma solarenga tarde sentada numa cadeira encostada a um lago ou uma fonte a ler um livro parecia-me perfeita. O que não consigo explicar é como passei sempre pelo Jardim das Tulherias (que soa melhor em francês) e nunca parei para vê-lo com atenção, para perceber que dele consegui ter o mesmo sentimento que tive quando dei um passeio no de Luxembourg pela primeira vez.
Of the first times I was in Paris I remember one of my favorite places was the Garden of Luxembourg, that idea of spending a sunny afternoon sitting in a chair against a lake or a fountain to read a book seemed perfect. What I can not explain is how I passed several times by the Tuileries Garden and never stopped to see it carefully, to realize that I could have the same feeling I had when I took a walk in the Luxembourg for the first time.

Maison Landemaine – Paris, França

O nosso hotel ficava muito perto da Rue des Martyrs, a rua com uma grande concentração de “patisseries” premiadas e “cholateriers”. Não tivémos tempo de provar todas mas a Maison Landemaine foi uma das escolhidas e é impossível entrar sem querer comer muito mais do que o estômago nos está a pedir. Quando entrámos formou-se fila, grande parte para comprar pão e alguns não resistiam aos vários doces e bolos das vitrinas.

Our hotel was very close to the Rue des Martyrs, a street with a large concentration of award-winning “patisseries” and “cholateriers”. We had no time to tasted them all but the Maison Landemaine was one of the chosen and it is impossible to enter without wanting to eat much more than in the stomach is asking. When we entered a queue was formed, largely to buy bread and some could not resist the sweets and cakes of it’s windows.

Blend – Paris, França

A febre dos hamburgueres gourmet invadiu várias cidades europeias e Paris não foi excepção, encontrei várias opções para os comer mas acabámos por decidir ir ao Blend. Queríamos um lugar descontraído para comer dos que nos fizessem matar saudades da nossa viagem a NYC e este pareceu-nos a melhor opção. Não é muito grande e não tem muitas mesas mas o serviço é suficientemente rápido para conseguir sempre mesa nem que seja a partilhar.
The fever of gourmet burgers raided various European cities and Paris was no exception, I found several options to eat but ended up deciding to go to the Blend. We wanted a relaxed place to eat that to relive the memories of our trip to NYC and this seemed the best option. It is  not very large and has few tables but the service is fast enough so you can always get the table even if you have to share.
