O Princess Cheesecake foi a nossa aposta para um pequeno-almoço diferente, fica no bairro de Mitte mas numa zona relativamente tranquila com uma pequena e encantadora esplanada fora. O seu interior elegante ainda que simples, tinha um toque romântico e talvez nostálgico das antigas casas de chá da elite e a montra de cheesecakes é a principal atração…e foi tão dificil escolher (e não provar todos).

The Princess Cheesecake was our bet for a different breakfast, it is in the Mitte district but in a relatively quiet area with a lovely little terrace outside. Its elegant yet simple interior had a romantic and perhaps nostalgic touch of old elite tea houses and the cheesecake storefront is the main attraction … and it was so hard to choose (and not to taste all).

Dóttir – Berlim, Alemanha

NOTA: ENCERRADO/CLOSED

Encontrei o Dóttir na primeira página da Timeout Berlim, era a sua grande recomendação e decidi marcar mesa para a nossa primeira noite na cidade. Gostei do ar descontraído do restaurante e apesar de ser cozinha de autor escandinava pensei (não sei como) que seria acessível. Enganei-me. Ao entrar e sentar-me no seu pequeno bar começo a ler o menu que era de degustação e que custava nada mais nada menos que cinquenta e oito euros (sem as bebidas) com quatro pratos. Museu de Pergamon – Berlim, Alemanha

Foi o último museu que visitámos em Berlim e tivémos apenas meia hora para o fazer, creio que foi a primeira vez que nos aconteceu mas tentámos sacar o máximo proveito da visita. Sabia que não podia deixar a cidade sem visitá-lo, morria de curiosidade de ver esse grandes exemplares da arquitetura da antiguidade como a porta de Ishtar e o Grande Altar de Pergamon que acabámos por não ver porque estava fechado para obras de recuperação.

It was the last museum to visit in Berlin and we had only half an hour to do so, I believe it was the first time that happened to us but we tried to take the most out of the visit. I knew I could not leave town without visiting it, dying of curiosity to see the great examples of ancient architecture as the Ishtar Gate and the Great Altar of Pergamon that we ended up not see why it was closed for restoration work. Postdamer Platz – Berlim, Alemanha

Tal como tantos outros lugares em Berlim que sofreram na II Guerra Mundial a Potsdamer Platz teve que ser reconstruída mas com a diferença de que pouco se conseguiu recuperar.  Aqui não se procurou replicar a antiga e elegante praça do principio do século XX, o que vemos hoje é a cara mais moderna da cidade tentando ainda assim preservar algo do passado como por exemplo uma parte do muro de Berlim ou a fachada do Hotel Esplanade.

Like so many other places in Berlin who suffered in World War II Potsdamer Platz had to be rebuilt but with the difference that little could recover. Here they did not sought to replicate the ancient and elegant square of the beginning of the twentieth century, what we see today is the modern face of the city trying to still preserve something of the past such as a piece of the Berlin Wall or the facade of the Hotel Esplanade. Alt-berliner Wirtshaus – Berlim, Alemanha

No nosso primeiro dia em Berlim decidimos ir a um restaurante de comida típica, depois de dar muitas voltas a sites de recomendação encontrámos um dos mais conhecidos que é o Altberliner Wirtshaus. Um lugar que parece um museu cheio de antiguidades e curiosidades, com esse toque rústico que me fez lembrar algum restaurante da Baviera e uma carta composta por alguns dos pratos mais típicos da cidade e do país.

On our first day in Berlin we decided to go to a typical food restaurant, after browsing many recommendation sites we found one of the best known that  is the Altberliner Wirtshaus. A place that looks like a museum full of antiques and curious objects, with that rustic touch that reminded me a Bavarian restaurant and a menu composed by some of the most typical dishes of the city and the country. Fernsehturm – Berlim, Alemanha

Tinha muita vontade de ver Berlim desde o alto da sua torre da televisão, houve sorte com o tempo e foi possível ter uma vista 360º da capital. Construída na década de 60 é um símbolo da antiga RDA de ocupação soviética e o edificio mais alto do país com os seus 368 metros de altura (porque a antena também conta), a plataforma á qual subimos para ver a cidade está a uns 200 metros de altura e vale mesmo a pena ir.

I really wanted to see Berlin from the top of its television tower, we were lucky with the weather and it was possible to have a 360º view of the capital. Built in the 60s is a symbol of the former GDR of Soviet occupation and the tallest building in the country with its 368-meter (because the antenna also counts), the platform which went up to see the city is about 200 meters high and is really worth going. Memorial do Holocausto – Berlim, Alemanha

Se não sabes o que representa podes deixar-te levar pela animação e vida que por ali passa, por parecer um labirinto vês mais brincadeira que outra coisa, jogar ao esconde não era própriamente o objetivo de este Memorial com mais de 2700 túmulos de betão com níveis distintos procuram representar a desorientação dos mais de seis milhões de judeus que foram vítimas do Holocausto.

If you do not know what it stands for you go with the life and vitality that passes by, because it seems like a maze so you see more like a fun place than anything else, playing the hide and seek was not exactly the goal of this Memorial with over 2,700 concrete tombs with different levelsthat wants to represent the disorientation of the six million Jews who were victims of the Holocaust.

East Side Gallery (Muro de Berlim) – Berlim, Alemanha

Não consigo imaginar Lisboa dividida em duas cidades separadas por muros e arame farpado, não consigo imaginar viver numa Madrid igualmente separada e mesmo com o que resta do muro não consigo imaginar Berlim assim. O que foi antes um lugar de separação, de dor e sofrimento, deu espaço a uma galeria de arte ao ar livre com vários artistas que ajudam a celebrar a liberdade.

I can not imagine Lisbon divided in two cities separated by walls and barbed wire, can not imagine living in Madrid also separate and even with what remains of the wall I can not imagine Berlin as well. What was once a place of separation, pain and suffering, gave way to an outdoor art gallery with various artists to help celebrate freedom. Bite Berlin Food Tour – Berlim, Alemanha

Desde que organizei um evento para a empresa com um food tour em Madrid (ver post aqui) achei que era uma maneira fantástica de conhecer melhor a cidade e a sua gastronomia. Na altura todos adoraram a experiência e quis repeti-la na visita a Berlim. Depois de pesquisar na internet escolhi o Bite Berlin organizado pela Samantha, uma inglesa que vive na cidade e que durante toda a visita demonstrou a sua grande paixão pela comida que por ali se pode provar.

Since I organized an event for the company with a food tour in Madrid (see post here) I thought it was a fantastic way to get to know the city and its gastronomy. At the time everyone loved the experience and I wanted to repeat it on a visit to Berlin. After searching the internet I chose Bite Berlin organized by Samantha, an Englishwoman who lives in the city and throughout the visit demonstrated her great passion for food that you can taste over there. Shiso Burger – Berlim, Alemanha

Depois de uma exaustiva pesquisa sobre o melhor hamburguer de Berlim ficámos com uma short list que incluía o Burgermeister, o The Bird e o Berlinburger International mas decidimos inovar e optar por outro que não estando no top 3 foi aparecendo noutras listas: o Shiso Burger. A promessa cumpriu-se comemos uns bons hamburguers de inspiração asiática num dos lugares da moda do bairro de Mitte.

After an exhaustive search for the best Burger of Berlin we ended up with a short list that included the Burgermeister, The Bird and the Berlinburger International but we decided to innovate and choose other than was not in the top 3 but was appearing in other lists: the Shiso Burger. The promise was fulfilled eat a good hamburger Asian-inspired in one of the most trendy places of the Mitte district.
