Gelataria Amorino – Lisboa, Portugal

Ao passear pela Rua Augusta encontrámos a Gelataria Amorino e decidimos que depois do almoço na Taberna Moderna os famosos gelados em forma de flor seriam a nossa sobremesa. A primeira e única vez que comemos um gelado da Amorino foi na cidade francesa de Bordéus e lembro-me que adorámos, quisémos repetir a boa experiencia que tivémos.
Strolling along Rua Augusta we found the Gelataria Amorino and decided that after having lunch at the famous Taberna Moderna we would have the flower shaped ice cream for dessert. The first and only time I ate an ice cream from Amorino was in the French city of Bordeaux and remember that we loved, we wanted to repeat the experience we have done good.

CAIS DA PEDRA – LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Cá por Madrid os hamburguers (principalmente os gourmet) continuam na moda e são o tema de novos restaurantes. Em Lisboa pelos vistos também estão e seguramente o Cais da Pedra ajudará a construir a reputação de um formato dominado pelas cadeias de fast-food.
Devo admitir que quando marquei mesa no Cais nem sabia que o prato principal era esse, sabia apenas que era do Henrique Sá Pessoa e como tive uma boa experiência no Alma decidi experimentar. Foi num dia especial (o meu aniversário), fui com amigos o que o melhorou e muito a nossa experiência.
In Madrid the burgers (especially gourmet) are still popular and are the topic of new restaurants. In Lisbon apparently are also and surely Cais da Pedra will help build the reputation of a format dominated by fast-food chains.
I must admit that when I booked a table at the Cais I did not even know this was the main course, I knew only that it was Henrique Sá Pessoa and as I had a good experience at Alma so I decided to try. It was a special day (my birthday), I went with friends which improved and much our experience.

A visita ao Palácio da Ajuda foi uma promoção 2×1, fomos ver a exposição da Joana Vasconcelos e acabámos por conhecê-lo por dentro algo que nunca tinha feito enquanto vivi em Portugal.
A sua construção inicia no século XVIII durante o reinado de D. José e no século XIX foi residência oficial da Familia Real, hoje em dia para além das salas que podemos visitar têm sede aqui alguns organismos públicos assim como a Biblioteca.
The visit to Ajuda Palace was like a 2×1 promotion, we went to see the exhibition of Joana Vasconcelos and we finally discover it something we had never done while living in Portugal.
Its construction started in the eighteenth century during the reign of King Joseph and in the nineteenth century  itwas the official residence of the Royal Family, today besides the rooms that we can visit some public offices are installed here as well as the Library.

Depois do almoço na Cantina reservámos o espaço da sobremesa para comer um bolo de chocolate na Landeau. O espaço é acolhedor repleto de preciosidades saídas de uma loja de antiguidades ou do Rastro, para além de provar o bolo tínhamos vontade de levar connosco alguma daquelas peças vintage que decoravam a Landeau e te faziam sentir em casa.
After lunch at Cantina we set aside some room for dessert to eat a chocolate cake in Landeau. The space is cozy is filled with gems out of an antique shop or the Rastro, in addition to tasting the cake we wanted to take with us some of those vintage pieces that decorated the Landeau and made ​​you feel at home.

A primeira coisa que normalmente perguntam quando se vê este Hot Dog pela primeira vez é: “Como é que se come isto?”. Nós que levamos alguns tempos a comer os famosos Hot Dogs de Cascais, primeiro na carrinha que estava estacionada junto á praia, depois num centro comercial e agora na Av. Valbom, nunca conseguimos encontrar a melhor técnica. Decidimos que o importante é comer este fantástico cachorro quente completo (por pouco menos de 4€) sem ter medo de sujar a roupa ou de ter alguma foto no Facebook com a cara cheia daquele molho especial que o torna ainda melhor.

The first thing people usually ask when they see this Hot Dog first is: “How do I eat this?”. We took some time to eat the famous Hot Dogs Cascais, first in the van that was parked near the beach, then in a small shopping center and now on Avenida Valbom, yet we never managed to find the best technique. We decided that the important thing is to eat this fantastic hot dog complete (for just under € 4) without fear of having stains on your clothes or to have some picture on Facebook with a face full of that special sauce that makes it even better.

 Há uns anos atrás, a zona do Intendente era daquelas que os guias de Lisboa te diziam para evitar mas hoje em dia é um dos lugares a visitar na cidade e já começas a ver turistas dando voltas aos mapas para ver onde fica. O Largo do Intendente foi reabilitado e a sua grande estrela é o “Kit Garden” da Joana Vasconcelos, a artista cuja a exposição em Versalhes é uma das mais visitadas de sempre.
 
A few years ago, the Intendent area was one of those places that the guides would tell you to avoid in Lisbon but today is one of the places to visit in town and you already begin to see tourists walking around with maps to see where it is. The Largo do Intendente was rehabilitated and it’s greatest star is the “Kit Garden” of Joana Vasconcelos, the artist whose exhibition at Versailles is one of the most popular ever.

Este lugar marcou para sempre a minha infância, se houvesse alguma história de princesas era este o palácio que eu imaginava, era no topo de uma das suas janelas que a Julieta suspirava pelo Romeo. Era de conto de fadas.
Tive a sorte de o visitar várias vezes e numa das minhas últimas idas a Portugal voltei a fazê-lo. Construído no século XIX, está aberto ao público como museu onde podemos ver peças que pertenciam aos Condes para além de uma exposição sobre a pré-história em Cascais. Dividi o post em dois, o primeiro será sobre o Palácio e o segundo sobre o Museu.
This place has forever marked my childhood, if there was any princess story this was the palace I imagined, it was at the top of one of his windows that Juliet sighed for Romeo. It was a fairy tale.
I was fortunate to visit it several times and in one of my last trips to Portugal I did it again. Built in the nineteenth century, it is open to the public as a museum where you can see pieces that belonged to the Counts in addition to an exhibit of the prehistory era in Cascais. I split the post into two, the first will be on the Palace and the second about the Museum.

Rua Cândido dos Reis – Porto, Portugal

A Rua Cândido dos Reis juntamente com a Galerias de Paris são duas das minhas ruas preferidas no Porto. É verdade que sempre as visitei de noite e isso faz toda a diferença, são das mais animadas da cidade, das mais boémias, sempre com gente na rua e nos bares.
De dia a história é um pouco diferente mas assim consegues realmente prestar atenção aos detalhes dos edifícios e ao ambiente que faz lembrar Paris.
The Rua Cândido dos Reis along with Galerias de Paris are two of my favorite streets in Porto. It is true that I always visited at night and that makes all the difference, they are the liveliest of the city, the most bohemian, always with people on the street and in bars.
By day the story is a little different but this way you can really pay attention to the details of the buildings and the environment that is reminiscent of Paris.

Rua da Cedofeita – Porto, Portugal

É uma conhecida rua de comércio no centro do Porto, não tão conhecida como a Santa Catarina e as suas lojas não são das mais modernas como as que podemos ver no Centro Comercial Bombarda.
Para mim o grande interesse desta rua são os seus edificios antigos (os mais antigos do século XVIII) com a sua arquitectura típica, estreitos com a fachada decorada de azulejos.
It is a known shopping Street in central Porto, not as well known as Santa Catarina and its stores are not the most modern as we can see in the Centro Comercial Bombarda.
For me the great interest of this street are its old buildings (the oldest of the eighteenth century) with its typical architecture, narrow façade decorated with tiles.

Igreja do Carmo – Porto, Portugal

Conhecida pelo seu retábulo em talha dourada no altar-mor e pela sua fachada lateral feita de azulejos, a Igreja do Carmo foi construída no século XVIII nos estilos barroco e rococó. Na fachada podemos ver o profeta Elias e o seu discípulo Eliseu. Foi inspirada no modo de vida do profeta que a Ordem Terceira do Carmo foi fundada.

Known for its gilded altarpiece on the high altar and the side façade made ​​of tile, the Carmo Church was built in the eighteenth century in a baroque and rococó style. In front we see the prophet Elijah and his disciple Elisha. It was inspired by the life of the Prophet that the Third Order of Mount Carmel was founded.
