Quando estivémos nas férias de Verão na Costa Brava houve uma gelataria que nos surpreendeu, a Rocambolesc. Mas agora estão mais perto, abriram no último andar do El Corte Inglês da Calle  Serrano ao lado do StreetXo e do Salón Cascabel, pareceu-me ter menos variedade que a loja da Catalunha mas pelo menos para “matar saudades” já é bom. A ideia de Jordi Roca e de Alejandra Rivas veio para conquistar Madrid com os seus gelados cremosos com sabores originais e ingredientes extra muito saborosos.
When we were in the summer holidays on the Costa Brava there was an ice cream parlor that surprised us, Rocambolesc. But now they are closer, opened on the top floor of El Corte Ingles Calle Serrano next to the StreetXo and Salón Cascabel, it seemed to have less variety than the Catalonia store but enough to “relive memories”. The idea of Jordi Roca and Alejandra Rivas came to conquer Madrid with its creamy ice cream with unique flavors and very tasty extra ingredients.

Precisava de comer um gelado e quando passei de manhã no High Line pela L’Arte del Gelato não consegui tirar a ideia da cabeça (nem do estômago), quando regressámos ao parque ao final do dia sentámo-nos nas cadeiras a ver o pôr do sol e a saborear um dos seus gelados. Escolhi um dos meus sabores preferidos que é o menta com chocolate e decidi provar um que não costumo pedir que foi o do coco.
 
I needed to eat some ice cream and when I went that morning to the High Line I passed by L’Arte del Gelato and could not take the idea of the head (or stomach), when we returned to the park at the end of the day we sat down in the chairs watching the sunset sun and sip one of their ice cream. I chose one of my favorite flavors that is the mint chocolate and decided to try one that usually do not ask that is the coconut.

Pedi a “coppetta piccola” e os dois sabores que escolhi foram acertados ambos deliciosos. O preço achei um pouco exagerado (ou talvez sejam os preços normais da cidade) porque custou cinco dólares o copo com os dois sabores e não foram particularmente generosos.
Está também dentro do Chelsea Market onde está aberto todo o ano, os outros dois locais estão abertos nos meses de mais quentes.
 
I ordered the “coppetta piccola” and the two flavors I chose were both delicious. The price I found a bit exaggerated (or maybe they are the standard rates in town) because it cost five five dollars a cup with two flavors and were not particularly generous.
Is also inside the Chelsea Market which is open all year, the other two places are open in the warmer months.

Le Parigine – Florença, Itália

Passeávamos pela Via dei Servi a ver montras, a contemplar a cúpula do Duomo quando encontrámos esta pequena gelataria: Le Parigine. Famosa pela sua especialidade de bolacha de gelado com as suas wafers estaladiças que segundo dizem veio antes que o gelado em cone. Não provei essa sua especialidade fui pelo formato mais tradicional com o cone mas adorámos a qualidade e a textura do gelado.
We were walking down Via dei Servi doing some window shopping, contemplating the Duomo when we found this little ice cream shop: Le Parigine. Famous for its specialty ice cream sándwich with their crispy wafers which they say came before the ice cream cone. I did not tasted their specialty I went for a more traditional format with the cone but we loved the quality and texture of ice cream.

Será muito mau só pensar em pizzas e gelados quando vou a Itália? Será redutor? Acredito que sim. Mas não consigo meter o pé nestas terras sem comer um ou dois gelados todos os días, de preferencia em sitios diferentes para novas experiências de sabores. A Cantina del Gelato estava na minha lista mas não sabia muito bem onde era e ao descer dos jardins Bardini quis o destino que nos encontrássemos.
Is it very bad that I only think of pizza and ice cream when I go to Italy? Does it ? I believe so. But I can not get a foot in these lands without eating one or two ice cream a day, preferably in different places to experience new flavors. The Cantina del Gelato was in my list but was not sure where it was and coming down from the Bardini Gardens fate wanted us to meet.

Bianco Latte – Milão, Itália

Mesmo ao dobrar da esquina do nosso hotel estava este tentador paraíso de doces chamado Bianco Latte. Como tínhamos direito a pequeno-almoço e pouco tempo na cidade não tivémos a oportunidade de disfrutar deste lugar como nós merecíamos ainda para mais na Páscoa.
Entrámos para comer um gelado e um muffin que estavam óptimos e ficámos sentados a apreciar o reboliço da espaço, das pessoas que se deixavam seduzir pelos doces, chocolates e bolos, pelos gelados e pela zona da loja onde se pode comprar bijuteria ou um serviço de chá por exemplo.
Right around the corner from our hotel there was this tempting sweet paradise called Bianco Latte. As we were entitled to breakfast and a short time in the city did not have the opportunity to enjoy this place as we deserve it even more so at Easter.
We went to eat ice cream and a muffin that were great and we sat enjoying the hustle and bustle of the place, people who let themselves be seduced by sweets, chocolates and cakes, ice cream and by the area of the store where you can buy from jewelry to a tea set for example.

MISTURA – MADRID, ESPANHA

Depois de almoçar no Bairro das Letras decidimos ir até á Chueca, andava á procura da gelataria que tem gerado tantos posts nos blogs que sigo sobre Madrid, a Mistura. Mas esta casa de gelados é mais que isso é um exemplo de empreendorismo e de que uma boa ideia quando implementada com intencionalidade pode ser um êxito.
E os gelados são muito bons…
After lunch in the Barrio de las Letras we decided to go to Chueca I was looking for the ice cream parlor that has generated so many posts on the blogs about Madrid that I follow, the Mistura. But this ice cream parlor is more than that it is an example of entrepreneurship and that a good idea when implemented with intentionality can be a success.
And the ice cream is very good …

Há sitios que te vendem gelados (uns saborosos outros não tanto), há outros que te vendem gelados com um sorriso e há ainda os que te vendem gelados, com um sorriso e uma boa história de vida. E assim nasce este post tão diferente de outros que faço porque normalmente falo de lugares mas aquifalo de pessoas. Os gelados podiam até saber a Sonasol que só pela simpatía do Sr. António eu compraria uns quantos, felizmente sabem bem e têm os meus cones preferidos da Progelcone, todo um clássico que vai dando voltas pelo Parque Eduardo VII.
 
There are places that sell ice cream (some other tasty other not so much), there are others that sell ice creams with a smile and there are also those who will sell ice creams, with a smile and a good life story. And so this post is born so different from the others that I do because usually I write about places but here I talk about people. The ice cream might even taste like dishwasher that just for the kindness of Mr. António I would buy a few, fortunately they tasted well and had my favorite cones of Progelcone, a classic goes around the Parque Eduardo VII.

 
Ele vai andando com a sua motoreta pelo parque e nesse dia fazia um calor de rachar, parámos para pedir três gelados e um cone (sem bolas de gelado) para o bébé. Já é difícil alguém comprar um gelado com má cara e será missão impossível se o compra ao Sr. António. Oferecemos dinheiro pelo cone, a vida não está para dar borlas e assim começou a nossa conversa com ele, em nenhum momento se queixou da vida e tinha umas quantas histórias tristes, quando lhe dissemos os nomes dos miúdos adorou o do mais nome: Jaime. Teve um filho com esse nome, primos, tios e entrou nos seu baú de memórias para contar-nos um pedaço da sua vida. Não comprei um simples gelado, comprei uma recordação de que dois dedos de conversa fazem-te ver a vida de outra maneira, de que há todo um país em crise mas ainda há gente capaz de sorrir e de não falar nela.
Obrigado Sr. António pelo cone á borla e pela simpatia, quando voltar a Portugal quero mais três gelados, um cone e virar mais uma página do seu livro de memórias.
 
He was walking with his scooter in the park that day and it was quite a hot day, we stopped to order three ice creams and a cone (without scoops of ice cream) for the baby. It is difficult for someone to buy an ice cream with a bad face and it will be a mission impossible if you buy it from Mr. António. We offered money for the cone, life is not to give freebies and so began our conversation with him in no way did he complained about life and he had a few sad stories when we told him the names of our kids he loved the name Jaime. Had a child with that name, cousins​​, uncles and so he got in  his trunk of memories to tell us a piece of his life. I did not buy a simple ice cream, I bought a reminder that a chat can make you see life differently, that there is an entire country in crisis but people are still able to smile and not mention it.
Thank you Mr. Anthony for the free cone and the sympathy, when I return to Portugal I want three ice creams, a cone and to turn over another page of your memoirs.

Gelataria Amorino – Lisboa, Portugal

Ao passear pela Rua Augusta encontrámos a Gelataria Amorino e decidimos que depois do almoço na Taberna Moderna os famosos gelados em forma de flor seriam a nossa sobremesa. A primeira e única vez que comemos um gelado da Amorino foi na cidade francesa de Bordéus e lembro-me que adorámos, quisémos repetir a boa experiencia que tivémos.
Strolling along Rua Augusta we found the Gelataria Amorino and decided that after having lunch at the famous Taberna Moderna we would have the flower shaped ice cream for dessert. The first and only time I ate an ice cream from Amorino was in the French city of Bordeaux and remember that we loved, we wanted to repeat the experience we have done good.

Os irmãos Roca do famoso restaurante El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considerado o melhor restaurante do mundo) decidiram transformar o seu carrinho de sobremesas numa gelataria ambulante, pelo menos essa foi a ideia original mas acabaram por “estacioná-lo” em duas lojas: uma em Girona e esta em Platja D’Aro que eu tive o privilégio de visitar…duas vezes.
The Roca brothers of the famous restaurant El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considered the best restaurant in the world) decided to transform their dessert cart into a moving icecream parlour, at least that was the original idea but eventually they had to”park it” in two stores : one in Girona and this one Platja D’Aro I had the privilege of visiting … twice.

Passava pelo Yoy sempre que ia da Praça da Chueca em direcção ao Mercado de San Antón, sempre me despertou a curiosidade mas estava sempre cheio. Que os gelados de iogurte (ou o frozen yogurt) estão na moda ninguém tem dúvidas e a Yoy é uma catedral dedicada a essa nova maneira de comer gelados que gera debates sobre se realmente são mais saudáveis ou não, se são mais calóricos ou não.

I would pass by Yoy when going from Plaza Chueca towards the Mercado de San Antón, I’ve always been curious but it was always full. The ice cream yogurt (or frozen yogurt) is in fashion and no one doubts Yoy is a cathedral dedicated to this new way of eating ice cream that generates debates about whether they really are healthier or not, whether or not they are more caloric.
Aqui garantem-te que são 100% orgânicos e com 0% de gordura o que te ajuda com o sentimento de culpa, claro está que depois de escolher o sabor do iogurte (morango, natural, chocolate) as calorias vão somando á medida que escolhemos os toppings.
Eu escolhi um iogurte natural com dois toppings (3,5€), a base é óptima dos melhores que já comi depois a mistura que fiz de toppings não funcionou muito bem não por culpa dos ingredientes mas porque são sabores que não se misturam muito bem.
Mas nem só de iogurtes vive o Yoy, podemos comer bolo á fatia (e que boa pinta têm), beber um smoothy ou um batido, etc..
O espaço é original e como eles próprios dizem “cool”, tens balouços e peças vintage para que fiques ali a comer o teu Yoy.
 
Here they ensure you that the yogurts are 100% organic and with 0% fat which helps you with the feeling of guilt, it is clear that after choosing the flavor of yogurt (strawberry, natural, chocolate) the calories will keep adding up as we choose toppings.
I chose a natural yogurt with two toppings (€ 3.5), the base is great one of the best I’ve ever eaten but the mixture of toppings that did not work very well through no fault of ingredients it was just because they didn’t mix well .
But they don’t only have yogurts, we can eat a slice of cake (and good looks have), drink a smoothy or a milkshake, etc. ..
The space is unique and as they themselves say “cool”, you have swings and vintage pieces for you to stay there to eat your Yoy.
