Não consigo imaginar Lisboa dividida em duas cidades separadas por muros e arame farpado, não consigo imaginar viver numa Madrid igualmente separada e mesmo com o que resta do muro não consigo imaginar Berlim assim. O que foi antes um lugar de separação, de dor e sofrimento, deu espaço a uma galeria de arte ao ar livre com vários artistas que ajudam a celebrar a liberdade.

I can not imagine Lisbon divided in two cities separated by walls and barbed wire, can not imagine living in Madrid also separate and even with what remains of the wall I can not imagine Berlin as well. What was once a place of separation, pain and suffering, gave way to an outdoor art gallery with various artists to help celebrate freedom. A mais emblemática avenida de Berlim é sem dúvida a Unter den Linden e basta olhar para um mapa para entender porquê, nela concentra-se o maior número de monumentos e lugares de interesse da cidade como por exemplo a Porta de Brandemburgo, a Staatsoper, o Neue Wache, Kronprinzenpalais, entre outros. Um passeio por ela é entrar no coração de Mitte o bairro mais central da cidade que durante a divisão foi também o centro da gestão da zona Este. Começámos o nosso passeio pela sua zona histórica desde o nosso hotel o Westin Grand e dali chegámos ao primeiro ponto: o Memorial do Holocausto.

The most emblematic avenue in Berlin is undoubtedly the Unter den Linden and just by looking at a map you understand why, it concentrates the largest number of monuments and sights and places such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Staatsoper, the Neue Wache, Kronprinzenpalais, among others. A walk by it is to enter the heart of Mitte the most central district of the city that during the division was also the management center of the Eastern zone. We started our tour of this historic area from our hotel the Westin Grand and from there we reached the first point: the Holocaust Memorial.

Um dos maiores símbolos da cidade é sem dúvida a Porta de Bradenburgo, símbolo do poder da Prússia que servia de entrada para a famosa avenida de Unter den Linden que terminava no Palácio de Berlim. Já vi vários arcos triunfais e portas (Madrid por exemplo tem umas quantas) mas creio que nenhuma te faz pensar tanto como esta, á memória vem os videos dos desfiles das tropas nazis, de fotos suas danificada pelos bombardeamentos da segunda guerra, afinal tal como o povo de Berlim, a Porta de Bradenburgo é hoje um símbolo sobrevivência.

One of the greatest symbols of the city is undoubtedly the Brandenburg Gate, the Prussian symbol of power that served as the entrance to the famous boulevard Unter den Linden that ended at the Berlin Palace. I’ve seen to several triumphal arches and doors (Madrid for example has a few) but I believe that none makes you think as much as this, to the memory comes the videos of the parades of Nazi troops, photos of it damaged by the bombing of the second war, after all as the people of Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate is now a symbol of survival.
