Não sou uma grande entendida do mundo Gin, é uma bebida que não costumo beber mas há que reconhecer que nos últimos anos e principalmente desde que vivo em Madrid oiço falar muito sobre ela e despertou a minha atenção. Quando pedi a uma amigo espanhol recomendações para um bar onde beber Gin pela visita de uns amigos que gostam muito desta bebida ele não hesitou em recomendar-me o Bristolbar na zona das Salesas. 
I’m not a big expert of the Gin world, it’s a drink that I do not usually drink but it is clear that in recent years, and especially since I live in Madrid I hear so much about it and caught my attention. When I asked a Spanish friend recommendations for a bar to drink gin because of a visit of some friends who are very fond of this drink and he did not hesitate in recommending me Bristolbar in the Salesas area.

Ao entrar as suas referências “british” estão bem evidentes com a sua bandeira e uma foto da Rainha Vitória numa das paredes do bar. Tem mais de cinquenta marcas desta bebida e requer algum tempo para preparar, há que refrescar o copo com gelo, retirar o excesso de água, colocar o gin e depois uma porção de água tónica que o barman ao vertê-la para o copo utilizou o cabo de uma colher supostamente para que não perca o gás. O toque final foi uma casca de lima e pronto a servir. Eu optei por algo mais simples e rápido que foi a “clara con limón”, um clássico madrilenho.
A parte do bar é pequena mas com muito bom ambiente, tem também uma parte de restaurante que serve pratos da cozinha britânica. 

When you get in the “british” references are very evident with the flag and a picture of Queen Victoria on the wall of the bar. It has over fifty brands of this drink and it requires some time to prepare, starting by refreshing the glass with ice, remove excess water, put the gin and tonic after a that the bartender to pour it into the glass used the handle of a spoon that is supposed to help it not to lose gas. The final touch was a twist of lime and it was ready to serve. I opted for something simple and fast it was to “clara con limón” (beer with lemon soda) a Madrid-based classic. 
The part of the bar is small but with a good environment, also has a restaurant serving British cuisine.

Tinha lido algures que aqui se serviam um dos melhores hamburguers de Madrid, reservei mesa para ir ao Buns numa sexta-feira á noite e fiquei surpreendida por ver que não estava assim tão cheio. Fica no bairro de Salamanca e a sua decoração está dentro da linha de um “diner” vintage americano. 
A carta na parte de hamburguers não era muito extensa mas ficou comprovada a sua qualidade com uma carne galega muito boa, ficaram por provar os cachorros quentes que dizem ser bons.

I had read somewhere that they served here one of the best burgers in Madrid, booked a table to go to Buns on a Friday night and I was surprised to see that it was not so full. Is in the Salamanca neighborhood and its decor is within a vintage “diner” American line. 
The menu it terms of hamburgers was not very extensive but it has proved its quality with a very good meat from Galicia, next time we need to taste the hot dogs that some say are good.

Para começar pedimos uns Nachos com frango, bacon, guacamole e queijo cheddar. Depois cada um pediu o seu hamburguer, no meu caso escolhi a Buns burger com um ingrediente extra que foi a cebola caramelizada que acrescentou mais sabor.  Pedimos de acompanhamento umas batatas skin-on com molho de alioli, muito boas. A qualidade da carne e do pão marcam a diferença nos hamburguers do Buns, não sendo um dos meus preferidos estava tudo realmente muito bom. Ainda houve espaço para sobremesa e pedimos Brownie com gelado de baunilha para partilhar. 
Pagámos 20€ por pessoa que achei talvez um pouco exagerado para o que comemos, os hamburguers custam á volta de 9€, os acompanhamentos entre 2,5€ e 3,5€.
For starters we ordered some Nachos with chicken, bacon, guacamole and cheddar cheese. After each asked a burger, in my case I chose the burger Buns with an extra ingredient that was the caramelized onions that added more flavor. We ordered a side that was the skin-on potatoes with alioli sauce, very good. The quality of meat and bread make a difference in the Buns hamburger, not being one of my favorites it was really very good. There was still room for dessert and we ordered Brownie with vanilla ice cream to share. 
We paid 20 € per person which I thought was maybe a little extreme for what we eat, the burgers cost around € 9, the sides are between 2.5 € and 3.5 €.

Procurávamos em Puerto del Carmen um restaurante para almoçar, por todo lado víamos sitios preparados para cobrir todas as necessidades turisticas com comida mexicana, pizzas, hamburguers, wok , etc.. Buscávamos algo mais autêntico, comida da ilha nem que fosse numa tasca fora do mapa turistico. Falando com um taxista recomendou-nos ir ao porto e deu-nos dois nomes: Lonja e a Confradia de Pescadores. Escolhemos o último e não nos arrependemos. 

We looked in Puerto del Carmen a restaurant for lunch, we saw sites everywhere prepared to cover all the tourist needs with Mexican food, pizza, burgers, wok etc. .. We were looking for something more authentic food from the island even if it was in a tavern off the tourist map. Talking to a taxi driver he advised us to go to the port and gave us two names: Lonja and Confradia Fishermen. We chose the latter and did not regret it.

Para começar trouxeram pão com três molhos, um de tomate, outro tipo chimichurri e o último de ali oli. Nós pedimos algumas tapas para começar, uma delas foi a de Almogrote que eu não conhecia mas é um paté feito com queijo e é uma receita de La Gomera. Gostei muito do provar e foi uma excelente escolha.
Veio também um choquinho frito que ficava óptimo com o ali oli, um pequeno prato de paella e depois comemos peixe e polvo grelhado. Com tudo isto estava claro que não havia espaço para sobremesa. 
Comemos na esplanada com vista para o porto. Foi um almoço muito agradável que pela quantidade de comida que pedidos saiu mais ou menos a uns 25€ por pessoa (o peixe custava 15€ as tapas andavam entre os 5-7€). 
They brought bread to start with three sauces, one tomato, another was some sort of chimichurri and the last one was ali oli. We ordered some tapas to start, one of them was Almogrote that I did not know but it’s a pate made ​​with cheese and it’s a recipe from La Gomera. I enjoyed tasting it and it was an excellent choice. 
Also came a fried squid that there was great with ali oli, a small dish of paella and then we ate the grilled fish and octopus. With all this it was clear that there was no room for dessert. 
We ate on the terrace overlooking the harbor. It was a very pleasant lunch that because of the amount of food we ordered came out more or less to about 25 € per person (cost € 15 fish tapas walked between 5-7 €).

Fui a uma reunião na ilha de Lanzarote, durante o voo podia ver as familias que iam de férias e eu equipada para trabalhar. Ainda assim consegui aproveitar alguns minutos para ver a zona do Puerto del Carmen, um dos núcleos turisticos mais importantes, pelas suas praias, pela sua oferta de hoteis, restaurantes e animação. 
I went to a meeting on the island of Lanzarote during the flight I could see the families who went on holiday and I was equipped to go to work. I still managed to enjoy a few minutes to see the area of Puerto del Carmen, one of the most important tourist centers, for its beaches, for its offer of hotels, restaurants and entertainment.

A sua zona principal é a Avenida las Playas onde há uma passeio excelente para conhecer o Puerto a pé, muito próximo das praias e do lado oposto estão todos os bares, restaurantes e lojas que fazem esta zona famosa. Puerto del Carmen era inicialmente um povoado de pescadores mas já pouco sobra desse tempo porque o turismo invadiu esse espaço. 
As praias são de areia fina mas escura, o mar no dia em que visitámos a ilha estava um pouco agitado e o vento soprava forte. Vi duas praias, uma é a Blanca (também conhecida por Grande) e a Playa de los Pocillos, chegámos depois á Punta de la Tiñosa onde parámos para almoçar na Confradia dos Pescadores.

Its core area is Avenida las Playas where there is a great walk to discover the Puerto on foot, close to the beaches and on the opposite side are all the bars, restaurants and shops that make this area famous. Puerto del Carmen was originally a fishing village but now there is not much left of that time because tourism invaded this space. 
The beaches are of thin yet dark sand, the sea on the day we visited the island was a little agitated and the wind blew strong. I saw two beaches, one was Blanca (also known as the Great) and the Playa de los Pocillos, we then arrived at the Punta de la Tiñosa where we stopped for lunch at Confradia dos Pescadores.

Partimos para mais uma caça ao tesouro com os nossos filhos, primeiro almoçámos em Toledo e depois saímos á descoberta de mais um castelo neste caso o de Guadamur. Menos mal que ambos adormeceram na viagem porque quando lá chegámos estava fechado. Foi uma pena e tivémos que contentar-nos por vê-lo apenas por fora. 
Este castelo é privado, propriedade de um empresário madrilenho que o foi recuperando permitindo depois a sua abertura ao público ainda que em horários limitados (muito limitados porque não está aberto ao fim de semana ao contrário de que li em alguns websites).

We left for another treasure hunt with our children but first we had lunch in Toledo and then we went to discover another castle in this case Guadamur. Thank goodness they both fell asleep on the trip because when we got there it was closed. It was a shame and we had to content ourselves by watching it on the outside only. 
This castle is private property of a Madrid-based businessman who was recovering in and now opening to the public even in the limited (very limited because it is not open on weekends as opposed to what I read on some websites) time frames.

 
Dizem que nele estiveram hospedados figuras ilustres da história de Espanha entre eles a Rainha Joana (A Louca) casada com o principe Filipe, o Belo. Terão aqui pernoitado também o Cardeal Cisneros (confessor da rainha Isabel la Católica) e o Imperador Carlos V.
Foi o Conde de Fuensalida que o mandou edificar em 1466 como residência de Verão mas desde então sofreu várias remodelações nas mãos de um grande número de proprietários que por ele passaram. 

They say that illustrious figures in the history of Spain including the Queen Joanna (The Madwoman) married to Prince Philip the Fair stayed here. Have also spent the night here the Cardinal Cisneros (confessor of Queen Isabel la Católica) and the Emperor Charles V. 
It was the Earl of Fuensalida that had it built in 1466 has a summer residence but has since undergone several renovations in the hands of a large number of homeowners who have passed by it.

ALQAHIRA – TOLEDO, ESPANHA

Quando planifiquei o nosso Sábado com mais umas “conquistas” a castelos com os mais pequenos procurei no Tripadvisor restaurantes, este foi o primeiro que me apareceu e se há cidade em Espanha com uma boa cultura árabe é Toledo por isso decidimos experimentar.
O Alqahira, ou Cairo em Árabe, está perto da Catedral numa esquina e ao entrar parece que viajaste até mais longe que apenas uma hora de Madrid.
When I planned our Saturday with a few more castle “conquests” with the Little ones I looked on Tripadvisor for restaurants, this was the first that came up and if there is a city in Spain with a good Arab culture is Toledo so we decided to try it.
The Alqahira or Cairo in arab, cis lose to the Cathedral on a corner and it seems to get you to travel farther than just an hour from Madrid.

Quando chegámos ao Castelo Sforzesco a chuva e o frio não nos davam tréguas, não foi o momento certo para o conhecer mas tínhamos pouco tempo em Milão e queríamos aproveitar da melhor maneira. O Castelo que vemos actualmente foi construído no lugar de um outro edificado para a familia Visconti que pelo século XV governava a cidade. Mais tarde Francesco Sforza – duque de Milão – mandou construir um palácio renascentista. Para entrar temos que passar pela Torre de Filarete cujo o nome vem do arquitecto que a criou.
 
When we reached the Castello Sforzesco the rain and cold did not give us any truce, it was not the best way to discover it but we had little time in Milan and wanted to make the most of it. The castle we see today was built in the place of another built by the Visconti family who ruled the city in the fifteenth century. Later Francesco Sforza – Duke of Milan – built a Renaissance palace. To go in we have to go through the Filarete tower whose name comes from the architect who created it.

O restaurante e pizzaria Da Cecco foi uma descoberta, das melhores que fizémos em Milão (senão a melhor) porque não sei se conseguiríamos chegar até ele sem a ajuda do simpático recepcionista do nosso hotel. É daqueles restaurantes muito apreciado pelos locais afastado das zonas turísticas e com a genuina cozinha italiana num espaço simples sem grande atenção á decoração.

The restaurant and pizzeria Da Cecco was a discovery, of the best we’ve done in Milan (if not better) because I do not know if we could get to it without the help of the friendly receptionist of our hotel. It is one of those restaurants much appreciated by those local away from the tourist areas and with the genuine Italian cuisine in a simple area without much attention to the decor.

Chegámos ao restaurante famintos, ficava relativamente perto do hotel mas ainda assim a caminhada abriu-nos o apetite, e muito. Pedimos um prato com bruscheta que estava óptimo, a do paté de azeitona foi a minha preferida. Depois pedi um risotto de couve roxa com queijo parmesano, estava delicioso. Queria tanto saber fazer risotto assim, foi o melhor que comi até hoje e se algum dia voltar a Milão, este é o prato que vou pedir e este é o primeiro restaurante ao qual quero voltar.
O marido pediu Ossobuco que adorou, só tenho pena de não ser um prato que fique mais elegante nas fotos mas sabor não lhe faltava e o resultado foi sair do restaurante completamente satisfeitos.
A refeição ficou por uns 15€ por pessoa, é verdade que não tomámos vinho nem comemos sobremesa.
We reached the restaurant hungry, it was relatively close to the hotel but still the walk-in oppened our appetite, and too much. We ordered a plate of bruscheta that was great and the olive paté was my favorite. Then I ordered a risotto with red cabbage and parmesan cheese, it was delicious. I wish I can make a risotto like that, it was the best I’ve had so far, if I ever come back to Milan, this is the dish I’ll ask and this is the first restaurant to which I want to return. 
My husband ordered the osso buco he loved it, my only regret is that it’s not a dish that becomes more elegant in the photos but it did not lacked flavor and the result was completely satisfied leaving the restaurant. 
The meal was about 15 € per person, it is true that we have not taken any wine or had dessert.

Como em Florença tínhamos ficado no NH e para ir juntando pontos decidimos procurar em Milão um hotel do mesmo grupo, estava dentro dos preços que tínhamos em mente e teria que ser um quarto confortável porque íamos com um bébé. Além disso queríamos um hotel perto da estação de comboios (Milano Centrale) pelo regresso de Florença e porque para voltar para o aeroporto queríamos utilizar esse meio de transporte (os táxis são muito caros). Por tudo isto escolhemos o NH Touring.
As in Florence we stayed in a NH hotel and to add more points we decided to search for a hotel in Milan of the same group, it was within the price of what we had in mind and that would be a comfortable room because we were with a baby. Also we wanted a hotel near the train station (Milano Centrale) as returned from Florence and because to return to the airport  we wanted to use this transport (taxis are very expensive). For all this we chose the NH Touring.
A primeira impressão do hotel foi boa, a zona parecia tranquila e fomos bem recebidos até chegar ao primeiro quarto que tinha uma decoração antiga para além de uns quantos problemas técnicos. Pedimos para trocar de quarto e fomos parar ao último piso num quarto remodelado superior ao que nos tinham dado antes. A casa de banho era nova (no outro era bastante antiga) e a decoração mais agradável, pelo menos um pouco mais acolhedora. 
Na recepção havia um empregado que falava português (com um sotaque brasileiro) e foi sempre muito simpático connosco, recomendou-nos alguns restaurantes. Fomos a um deles e foi uma excelente recomendação.
O hotel ficava a uns quinze minutos a pé do centro, uma agradável caminhada e no bairro encontrámos alguns cafés e restaurantes interessantes. Não foi uma má escolha no final mas não sei se voltaria a ficar aqui.
The first impression of the hotel was good, the place seemed quiet and we were welcomed until we reached the first room that had an old decoration apart from a few technical problems. We asked to change rooms and ended up at the top floor to a superior bedroom refurbished. The bathroom was new (the other was quite old) and at least it was a little more welcoming a nicer decor. 
At the reception there was an employee who spoke Portuguese (with a Brazilian accent) and was always very friendly with us, advised us a few restaurants. We went to one of them and it was an excellent recommendation. 
The hotel was a fifteen minute walk from the center, a nice walk in the neighborhood and were we found some interesting cafes and restaurants. Not a bad choice in the end but do not know if I would ever get here.

Uma das zonas mais famosas da cidade não é um monumento histórico, não tem nenhuma catedral mas não deixa de ser um lugar de culto, um lugar onde mesmo que não vás comprar nada tens que passar por ali. Tem as melhores lojas de moda de Milão e as ruas que estabelecem a fronteira são a Montenapoleane, a Della Spiga, a Manzoni e a Sant’Andrea. Pelo meio estão ruas mais estreitas como a Via Gesú e a San Spirito.
One of the most famous areas of the city is not a historical monument, has no cathedral but it is still a place of worship, a place where even if you do not go to buy something you have to walk by. It has the best fashion stores in Milan and the streets that establish the border are Montenapoleane, Della Spiga, Sant’Andrea and Manzoni. In the middle there are narrower streets like Via Gesu and San Spirito.

Escusado será dizer que a única coisa que fizémos nesta rua foi apreciar as montras e os elegantes edificios onde estão instaladas. Algumas mais originais e apelativas que outras (Moschino e Dolce & Gabbana entre as mais chamativas) mas há para todos os gostos. Aqui podemos encontrar sobretudo marcas italianas (Prada, Versace, Armani, etc..) mas há também uma loja Michael Kors, Chanel e Alexander McQueen. 
Mas para os que procuram algo mais que montras, esta zona tem dois interessantes museus, um no Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi e o outro no Palazzo Morando Attendolo Bolognini.
Needless to say, the only thing we have done in this street was enjoying some window shopping and the elegant buildings where they are installed. Some more unique and appealing than others (Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana among the most striking) but there is something for everyone. Here one can find mainly Italian brands (Prada, Versace, Armani, etc. ..) but there is also a Michael Kors, Chanel and Alexander McQueen store. 
But for those seeking something more than window shopping, this area has two interesting museums, one in Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi and the other at Palazzo Morando Bolognini Attendolo.
