Uma parte do nosso programa de actividades em Bremen envolvia uma visita ao Universum, um centro onde a ciência está em destaque. Está divido em três edificios: Science center, o Entdecker park e o Schaubox. Entrámos no último para ver a exposição: “Your Life in Numbers”.

A part of our program of activities in Bremen involved a visit to Universum, a center where science is highlighted. It’s divided into three buildings: Science center, the Entdecker park and the Schaubox. We entered the last to see the exhibition: “Your Life in Numbers.”

O objectivo da exposição é dar informação sobre números do dia á dia como por exemplo o número de embalagens de detergente que se gasta num ano ou a altura média de um homem e de uma mulher. Entre jogos interactivos e dados podes aprender algumas curiosidades sobre a vida quotidiana.
O Science Center que é uma maravilha arquitectónica (Ver aquí) só vimos por fora mas comentaram-nos que continuava na linha de exposições interactivas relacionadas com a Terra e o cosmos. Porque fomos pela empresa não pagámos para entrar mas os preços rondam os 16€ por adulto, estão muio orientados para crianças por isso é uma boa ideia para quem viaja em familia.
 
The aim of the exhibition is to provide information on numbers of daily life such as the number of packs of detergent you spend in a year or the average height of a man and a woman. Between games and interactive data you can learn fun facts about everyday life.
The Science Center is an architectural wonder (see here) but please only saw it from out side and they commented that it was still in that interactive exhibits line related to the Earth and the cosmos. Because we went through the company we did not pay to enter but prices are around € 16 per adult, it is oriented to children so it is a good idea for anyone traveling with family.

A minha visita a Bremen como disse anteriormente foi a trabalho por isso o hotel onde fiquei foi escolha da organização. Na verdade foi uma excelente opção porque estava no centro da cidade muito perto da Marktplatz.
Não seria porém a minha primeira escolha e simplesmente por uma questão de preço, porque é um excelente hotel.
 
My visit to Bremen as I said earlier was to work so the hotel where I stayed was chosen by the organization. Actually it was an excellent choice because it was in the city center very close to Marktplatz.
But it would not be my first choice and simply for a matter of price, because it is an excellent hotel.


Os quartos são espaçosos e muito funcionais e a casa de banho era moderna. O pequeño-almoço era buffet com uma excelente variedade. Não tenho nada a apontar apenas os 139€ por noite que realmente valem o conforto mas que numa situação normal estaría fora do meu preço psicológico para um hotel citadino.
 
The rooms are spacious and very functional and the bathroom was modern. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a good variety. I have nothing to point out only  the 139€ per night that are really worth the comfort but in a normal situation it would be out of my psychological price for a city hotel.

Eram dez da noite de uma segunda-feira e procurávamos um restaurante para jantar, foi o nosso primeiro contacto com Bremen e estava a ser difícil encontrar um lugar para comer. Não haviam muitos restaurantes abertos e o único mais perto do hotel era um tapas bar, tendo vindo de Espanha não nos parecia muito apelativo.
Decidimos ir até á zona de Schlachte que fica junto ao rio Weser onde todos nos recomendaram ir por ter muitos bares, creio que será mais animado no Verão, no Inverno só encontrámos o Luv aberto.
 
It was ten o’clock of a Monday and we were looking for a restaurant to have dinner, it was our first contact with Bremen and it was difficult to find a place to eat. There were not many restaurants open and the only one closer to the hotel was a tapas bar, having come from Spain it didn’t seem very appealing.
We decided to go up into the Schlachte zone which runs along the river Weser it was recommended where we all go for having many bars, I think it will be more lively in summer, in the winter only found Luv open.

A decoração é simples e nas paredes estavam fotos de barcos. Não quisémos arriscar na comida, pedimos uma salada e um prato de massa que dividimos entre duas pessoas. As doses eram muito generosas a começar pela Coca-Cola que parecía ser de 0,75l.
A comida estava boa e no final pagámos cerca de 25€ para duas pessoas.
 
The decoration is quite simple, on the walls photos of boats. We did not want to risk with the food, so we ordered a salad and a pasta dish to share between two people. The portions were very generous starting with Coca-Cola that appeared to be of 0.75 l. 
The food was actually quite good and in the end we paid around 25€ for two.

A minha estadia em Bremen foi de três días mas o tempo para realmente vê-la foi apenas uma hora, pelo menos com luz do dia. A primeira coisa que quis visitar foi esta praça dominada por dois importantes edificios um é o Rathaus e o outro é a Catedral de St. Petri com as suas duas torres gémeas de quase 100 metros de altura.
 
My stay in Bremen was three days but the time to really see it was only an hour, at least in daylight. The first thing I wanted to visit this square was dominated by two important buildings one is the Rathaus and the other is the St. Petri Cathedral with its two twin towers nearly 100 feet tall.

 
Até visitá-la durante o dia devo admitir que Bremen não me estava a entusiasmar, creio que a melhor altura para a visitar será na Primavera, no Verão ou se for no Inverno talvez num fim de semana. Chegámos de noite,a um dia de semana e andámos por esta praça á procura de um sitio para comer, era tarde e estava vazia não se via ninguém.
Durante o dia já se vê mais gente, os cafés montam as suas esplanadas (ainda que o frio ou a ameaça de chuva não te convide a sentar), alguns circulam com as suas bicicletas, etc..
É elaborada fachada do Rathaus que domina a paisagem da praça e está na lista do Património Mundial da UNESCO. Foi construído no século XV mas a impressionante fachada que vemos actualmente foi de uma renovação do século XVII.
Junto ao Rathaus um monumento a Roland (de 1404), um dos símbolos da cidade, um cavaleiro da Batalha de Roncesva.
Do lado oposto ao Rathaus está o Schütting, a Câmara de Comércio da cidade desde a época medieval construída no século XVI.
Há muito para ver nesta praça e a sua visita é inevitável, partimos daqui para conhecer o resto do centro histórico.
 
So until we visit it during the day I must admit that I was not so excited by Bremen, I think the best time to visit would in the spring, summer or if you go in the Winter perhaps a weekend would be best. We arrived at night, on a week day and walked by this square looking for a place to eat, it was late and it was empty, we didn’t see anyone.
During the day you see more people, the cafes assemble their terraces (although the cold or the threat of rain did not invite you to sit), some moving with their bikes, etc. ..
It‘s Rathaus elaborate façade that dominates the landscape of the square and is on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. It was built in the fifteenth century but the impressive façade we see today was a renewal of the seventeenth century.
Along the Rathaus a monument to Roland (1404), one of the symbols of the city, a knight of the Battle of Roncesva.
Opposite the Rathaus is the Schütting, the Chamber of Commerce of the city since medieval times built in the sixteenth century.
There is plenty to see in this square and the visit is unavoidable, we start from here to explore the rest of the historic center.

Os Músicos – Bremen, Alemanha

Um burro, um cão, um gato e um galo são os protagonistas da história dos irmãos Grimm: Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten ou os Músicos de Bremen. Na realidade eles nunca chegam a esta cidade, pelo menos não na história mas em 1953 o artista Gerard Marcks desenhou a escultura que os trouxe até Bremen e fez com que se tornassem num do seus símbolos.
A donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster are the protagonists of the story of the Brothers Grimm: Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten or the Town Musicians of Bremen. In fact they never come to this city, at least not in history but in 1953 the artist Gerard Marcks designed the sculpture that brought them to Bremen and become one of it’s symbols.

PETISCARIA IDEAL – LISBOA, PORTUGAL

Depois da Osteria e da Pharmácia conseguimos finalmente chegar á Petiscaria Ideal da dupla de sucesso: Susana Felicidade e Tânia Martins. Primeiro veio a Taberna e a sua irmã mais “barata” é a Petiscaria como a mesma receita de éxito: petiscos de qualidade e bom ambiente.
Qualquer um dos seus restaurantes está na moda e neste caso não reservam mesas. Chegar cedo é imperativo, nós fomos os primeiros a entrar (ás 19h30) e depois veio uma avalanche de gente até fazer fila fora.
 
After Osteria and Pharmácia we finally got to the Petiscaria Ideal from the success duo: Susana Felicidade and Tania Martins. First came the Taberna Ideal and its “cheap” sister is the Petiscaria with the same recipe of success: quality food (“petiscos” – small portions) and good environment.
Any of their restaurants is trendy and in this case they do not reserve tables. Arriving early is imperative, we were the first to enter (at 19.30) and then came an avalanche of people until they were in a queue outside.

 Há uns anos atrás, a zona do Intendente era daquelas que os guias de Lisboa te diziam para evitar mas hoje em dia é um dos lugares a visitar na cidade e já começas a ver turistas dando voltas aos mapas para ver onde fica. O Largo do Intendente foi reabilitado e a sua grande estrela é o “Kit Garden” da Joana Vasconcelos, a artista cuja a exposição em Versalhes é uma das mais visitadas de sempre.
 
A few years ago, the Intendent area was one of those places that the guides would tell you to avoid in Lisbon but today is one of the places to visit in town and you already begin to see tourists walking around with maps to see where it is. The Largo do Intendente was rehabilitated and it’s greatest star is the “Kit Garden” of Joana Vasconcelos, the artist whose exhibition at Versailles is one of the most popular ever.

Para matar saudades de uns bom chá com scones decidimos ir ao Chá da Barra em Oeiras. Fica no centro da vila no complexo do Centro Cultural do Palácio do Egipto (ou Egito), a sua esplanada é uma das mais valias mas o seu interior é bastante acolhedor e do que mais gosto é do tradicional azulejo português a decorar as paredes.
 
To relive memories of a good tea with scones decided to go to the tea bar in Oeiras. It is in the town center in the complex of the Cultural Centre of the Palace of Egypt, its terrace is one of the high points but inside is very cozy and what I like most is the traditional Portuguese tile decorating the walls.

Ainda que o objectivo da nossa visita fosse o lanche a verdade é que grande parte das vezes que aquí estivémos foi em almoços de aniversario. Sobre os scones podemos dizer que estavam óptimos, com doce de laranja e manteiga.
Gosto da variedade de chás que têm e lembro-me que foi aqui que bebi o primeiro Rooibos.
Desta última vez que fomos o serviço não estava nos seus melhores días, além de alguma falta de simpatía esqueceram-se do nosso pedido mas vale sempre a pena visitar o café que foi capa da revista Timeout.
 
Although the purpose of our visit was tea time the truth is that every time we were here was in birthday lunches. About the scones we can say that they were great with orange marmalade and butter.
I like the variety of teas they have and I remember that it was here that I had my first Rooibos tea. This last time we went the service was not in its best days, lack of sympathy and they forgot our order but it is always worth visiting the coffee that made ​​the cover of Timeout magazine.

Santa Cueva de Covadonga, Espanha

Dois sossegados leões tomam conta do santuário dedicado á Virgem da Covadonga. A Santa Cueva é um lugar de passagem obrigatória para quem entra nos Picos da Europa via Cangas de Onís.  No post anterior já tinha contado um pouco da história deste lugar em que muitos acreditam que foi graças á Virgem que Pelágio pode vencer os muçulmanos e dar inicio á Reconquista da Península Ibérica.
Hoje podemos ver o seu túmulo na Santa Cueva e junto a ele a imagen da Virgem.
 
Two quiet lions take over the shrine dedicated to the Virgin of Covadonga. The Santa Cueva is a place of obligatory passage for those entering in the Picos de Europa via Cangas de Onis. In the previous post I had already told some of the history of this place that many believe was thanks to the Virgin that Pelagius could defeat the Muslims and started the Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula.
Today we can see his tomb in Santa Cueva and close to him the image of the Virgin.

Basílica de Santa Maria La Real – Covadonga, Espanha

Quinze minutos separavam Cangas de Onís da Covadonga onde chegámos á Basílica de Santa Maria La Real. Aos poucos e enquanto disfrutávamos do sinuoso caminho para lá chegar, ela ia revelando a sua forma.
Não sabia muito sobre este lugar, sabia que é dos mais importantes da história das Astúrias mas faltava o porquê. A estátua em bronze do rei Pelágio (Pelayo) das Astúrias começou a desvendar o mistério que ia na minha cabeça, foi daqui que ele defendeu o seu reino da invasão muçulmana e foi em Cangas que morreu.
Fifteen minutes separated Cangas de Onis from Covadonga where we arrived at the Basilica of Santa Maria La Real. While we were enjoying the view of the winding road to get there, it was revealing it’s shape.
I didn’t know much about this place, you know that is the most important in the history of Asturias but I missed the reason why. The bronze statue of King Pelagius (Pelayo) of Asturias began to unravel the mystery that was in my head, it was here that he defended his kingdom from the Muslim invasión and it was in Cangas where he died.
