São várias as lojas em Toledo que prometem os autênticos bolinhos de maçapão (“mazapán”), um dos seus doces mais famosos mas eu gosto de comprar aqui na Confeitaria Santo Tomé na Plaza de Zocodover. Os que mais gosto para além dos ingredientes tradicionais – amêndoas, açúcar e mel – estão cobertos de pinhão e o ideal é mesmo não comprar muitos porque não se consegue parar de comer.
There are several stores in Toledo that promise authentic marzipan cookies (“marzipan”), one of his most famous candy but I like to buy here in Confiteria anto Tomé at Plaza de Zocodover. What I like the most beyond the traditional ingredients – almonds, sugar and honey – are the ones covered pine nuts and ideally you should buy too many because you can not stop eating. ALQAHIRA – TOLEDO, ESPANHA

Quando planifiquei o nosso Sábado com mais umas “conquistas” a castelos com os mais pequenos procurei no Tripadvisor restaurantes, este foi o primeiro que me apareceu e se há cidade em Espanha com uma boa cultura árabe é Toledo por isso decidimos experimentar.
O Alqahira, ou Cairo em Árabe, está perto da Catedral numa esquina e ao entrar parece que viajaste até mais longe que apenas uma hora de Madrid.
When I planned our Saturday with a few more castle “conquests” with the Little ones I looked on Tripadvisor for restaurants, this was the first that came up and if there is a city in Spain with a good Arab culture is Toledo so we decided to try it.
The Alqahira or Cairo in arab, cis lose to the Cathedral on a corner and it seems to get you to travel farther than just an hour from Madrid.

Quando observamos a cidade de Toledo desde o Mirador da carretera Alto do outro lado da cidade e do rio Tejo, há dois edificios que se destacam: a Catedral e o Alcázar. Mas para mim Toledo é fantástica pelo o seu todo, porque tem tanto para ver que mesmo que se destaquem estes dois monumentos não são de nenhuma maneira mais importantes que alguma Sinagoga ou a Plaza de Zocodover. O que é certo é que uma visita a esta cidade obriga a conhecer a sua catedral, um símbolo de vários estilos que se misturam e um exemplo da história da convivência das culturas cristã, judía e árabe.

When we look at the city of Toledo from the Alto Mirador  Street across the city and the Tagus river, there are two buildings that stand out: the Cathedral and Alcazar. But for me Toledo is fantastic by the whole, because it has so much to see that even though these two monuments stand out there are in no way more important than any synagogue or the Plaza de Zocodover. What is certain is that a visit to this city requires to visit its cathedral, a symbol of various styles that blend in and an example of the story of coexistence of Christian, Jewish and Arabic cultures.

SINAGOGA SANTA MARIA LA BLANCA – TOLEDO, ESPANHA

Primeiro Sinagoga depois Igreja, Santa Maria a Branca continua a ser um excelente exemplo do movimento mudéjar em Espanha.

O exterior não denuncia a riqueza do seu pequeno interior, que conta com cinco naves separadas por arcos com um formato de ferradura e cuja ligação ao pilar se faz com um detalhe decorativo esculpido em pedra.

First a Synagogue then a church, Santa María la Blanca continues to be an excellent example of the Mudéjar movement in Spain.
The exterior does not denounce the wealth of its small interior, which has five naves separated by arches with a horseshoe shape and whose connection to the pillar is made with a decorative detail carved in stone.

El Trébol – Toledo, Espanha

 Um passeio por Toledo abre o apetite e tínhamos em mente provar a famosa Bomba Toledana. Fomos a um bar de tapas chamado El Trébol que fica na rua por trás da Plaza de Zocodover, na Santa Fé. Um charmoso beco com uma esplanada que apesar do frio e de alguma chuva ninguém arredava pé. O prato estrela? A Bomba. Uma deliciosa “croqueta” de puré de batata e carne picada, com molho de tomate e “ali-oli”.
A tour of Toledo opens the appetite and had in mind try the famous Bomba Toledana (Bomb of Toledo). We went to a tapas bar called El Trebol which is on the street behind the Plaza de Zocodover in Santa Fé. A charming alley with a terrace that despite the cold and some rain nobody budge. The star dish? The “Bomba”. A delicious “croqueta” made of mashed potato and minced meat with tomato sauce and “ali-oli”.

Mosteiro San Juan de Los Reyes – Toledo, Espanha

Este mosteiro foi construído no século XV/XVI pela Ordem dos Franciscanos a pedido dos Reis Católicos tem como principal “atracção” o seu claustro.
É um excelente exemplo do estilo gótico isabelino e foi o monumento que os reis, os Católicos, ofereceram a Deus pela sua vitória na Batalha de Toro, que os opunha a D. Afonso V de Portugal que procurava defender os direitos da sua sobrinha Joana de Beltreja na Guerra da Sucessão Castelhana, que a opunha a Isabel de Castela.
This monastery that was built in the fifteenth century / XVI by the Franciscan Order at the request of the Catholic Kings has the cloister has it’s the main “attraction” .
It is an excellent example of Elizabethan Gothic style and was the monument that the kings, Catholics, offered to God for their victory in the Battle of Toro, who opposed the D. Afonso V of Portugal who sought to defend the rights of his niece Joan of Beltreja in the Castilian War of Succession, which opposed her to Isabel of Castile.

PONTE DE SAN MARTIN – TOLEDO, ESPANHA

De visita a Toledo, um dos primeiros monumentos que vimos foi a Ponte de San Martín.
Foi construída no século XIV e foi reformada três séculos mais tarde, no reinado de D. Carlos II. A ponte ajuda unificar as duas margens separadas pelo (nosso conhecido) rio Tejo e nas suas extremidades estão duas torres, uma é do século XIII e foi o que restou de uma ponte que existia antes. A segunda torre tem uma placa em que na sua inscrição se pode ler o nome do Rei D. Carlos II podemos ver também o brasão da sua casa real.
Visiting Toledo, one of the first monuments we went to was the Bridge of San Martín.
It was built in the fourteenth century and was renovated three centuries later, in the reign of Charles II. The bridge helps unify the two sides separated by the (known to us) Tagus river and in it’s ends are two towers, one is from the thirteenth century and was the remains of a bridge that existed before. The second tower has a sign that in it’s inscription you can read the name of King Charles II  and also see the coat of his royal house.
