Borgo Antico – Florença, Itália

Se uma coisa se pode dizer de Florença é que é preciso ter muito azar e escolher muito mal para não comer bem. Salvo alguma excepção (e nem muito grave) comemos sempre bem e a ajudar a esta afirmação está o Borgo Antico.  Para escapar um pouco ás nossas ruas habituais de Florença decidimos passar para o outro lado do Arno e entrar no bairro de Oltrano, um dos mais “hipster” da cidade.
If one thing can be said about Florence is that you must be very unlucky and choose poorly to not eat well. Barring some exception (and not very serious) we always ate well and to help this assertion is the Borgo Antico. To escape a bit from our usual streets of Florence we decided to move to the other side of the Arno and enter the Oltrarno district, one of the most “hipster” of the city.

NH Anglo American – Florença, Itália

Não foi fácil a nossa escolha de hotel em Florença, queríamos ficar perto dos monumentos mas não queríamos uma zona demasiado agitada, íamos com um bébé por isso o tamanho do quarto era importante e acabámos por escolher o NH Anglo American junto ao Consulado dos Estados Unidos, um pouco mais longe do epicentro turístico mas num bairro que gostei muito pelas suas lojas e restaurantes. Foi para nós uma boa escolha.
It was not easy choosing our hotel in Florence, we wanted to stay close to the monuments but we didn’t want a busy area, we went with a baby so the room size was important and ended up choosing the NH Anglo American near the U.S. Consulate, a little further away from the tourist epicenter but in a neighborhood that we enjoyed for its shops and restaurants. It was a good choice for us.

Pizzeria di Gennaro – Milão, Itália

Milão deve ter mil restaurantes que dizem ter a melhor pizza da cidade, o Di Gennaro talvez seja um deles e o melhor de o termos conhecido nem foi a comida, foi que não estava no plano e foi toda uma descoberta…para nós! Para mim é uma pizzería á italiana, o “sr. Gennaro” recebe-te á porta sempre com muita pressa mas sem perder um pingo de simpatía, quando vê o bébé acelera o passo para que nos sentemos o quanto antes, ainda nem provámos as pizzas e já nem queremos saber se são as melhores, o Di Gennaro conquista pela simpatía e por aquele toque típico italiano (sem as toalhas de xadrez) que parece que só vês nos filmes mas que afinal existe.
Milan must have a thousand restaurants that say they have the best pizza in town, Di Gennaro is perhaps one of them but the best of eating here was not even tasting the food it was that it was not in the plan and all was … a discovery for us! To me it is a true Italian pizzería, the “Mr. Gennaro” meets you at the door in a hurry but always without losing an ounce of sympathy when he sees the baby he accelerates the pace to sit us as soon as possible, we hadn’t tasted the pizzas and do not even know if they are the best, Di Gennaro conquered us by it’s sympathy and by that typical Italian touch (no towels chess) it seems that you only see it in movies but it actually exists.

STAZIONE CENTRALE – MILÃO, ITÁLIA

Foi o segundo sitio que conhecemos de Milão porque o primeiro foi o aeroporto. Daqui partimos para Florença directamente mas enquanto esperávamos pelo comboio passeámos pela bela estação. Não é daqueles sitios que vem recomendado nos guias mas é sem dúvida um dos mais importantes da cidade pela sua função. Também a sua história é interessante, a primeira pedra foi colocada por Victor Emanuele III (em 1906) mas a sua construção terminou apenas a 1931 após ter sido interrompida pela Guerra Mundial.
It was the second place we visited in Milan because first it was the airport. From here we went to Florence directly but as we waited for the train we strolled through the beautiful train station. It is no one of those sites that come recommended in the guides but it is undoubtedly one of the city’s most important for its function. Also it’s story is interesting, the first stone was laid by Victor Emanuele III (in 1906) but its construction ended only in 1931 after having been interrupted by the World War.

Bianco Latte – Milão, Itália

Mesmo ao dobrar da esquina do nosso hotel estava este tentador paraíso de doces chamado Bianco Latte. Como tínhamos direito a pequeno-almoço e pouco tempo na cidade não tivémos a oportunidade de disfrutar deste lugar como nós merecíamos ainda para mais na Páscoa.
Entrámos para comer um gelado e um muffin que estavam óptimos e ficámos sentados a apreciar o reboliço da espaço, das pessoas que se deixavam seduzir pelos doces, chocolates e bolos, pelos gelados e pela zona da loja onde se pode comprar bijuteria ou um serviço de chá por exemplo.
Right around the corner from our hotel there was this tempting sweet paradise called Bianco Latte. As we were entitled to breakfast and a short time in the city did not have the opportunity to enjoy this place as we deserve it even more so at Easter.
We went to eat ice cream and a muffin that were great and we sat enjoying the hustle and bustle of the place, people who let themselves be seduced by sweets, chocolates and cakes, ice cream and by the area of the store where you can buy from jewelry to a tea set for example.

O Duomo é talvez o meu monumento preferido da cidade de Milão (ainda não conheço todos e daí o talvez). A sua grandiosidade e complexidade fazem com que mesmo que seja a segunda vez que o visito, fica sempre algo por ver, sempre a sensação de que ainda não o conheço e que quero voltar com mais tempo. É verdade que não tivémos tempo para ir ao topo e aproveitar a vista da cidade, imagino que seja o tipo de coisa que pede melhor tempo que o dia chuvoso que apanhámos.
The Duomo is perhaps my favorite monument in the city of Milan (still do not know all and hence the perhaps). Its grandeur and complexity make, even if it’s the second time I visit, always something worth seeing, I get that feeling that still do not know it and want to go back with more time. It is true that we had no time to go to the top and enjoy the view of the city, I imagine it’s the sort of thing that asks for better weather than the rainy day that we had.

DUOMO – PISA, ITÁLIA

O Duomo foi o primeiro monumento que visitámos dos três que podíamos ver em Pisa. Foi construído em duas fases, a primeira no século XI com ajuda do dinheiro que os seus habitantes acumularam dos saques que fizeram a Palermo. No século XII termina a sua construção mas no século XVI após um incêndio tiveram que reconstrui-la. Ainda assim e depois de ter sobrevivido ao tempo e ás guerras, podemos visitar gratuitamente uma Catedral que muitos colocam para segundo plano ao visitar Pisa mas que nós gostámos muito de conhecer.
The Duomo was the first monument we visited out of the three that we could see in Pisa. It was built in two phases, the first in the eleventh century with the help of the money that the inhabitants accumulated from the loots made in Palermo. In the twelfth century ends its construction but in the sixteenth century after a fire it had to be rebuilt. Still and having survived the time and wars, we can visit for free a Cathedral that many put into the background when visiting Pisa but we very much enjoyed the experience.

OSTERIA LA MESCITA – PISA, ITÁLIA

O La Mescita foi um acidente, daqueles que acontece e acabas satisfeito por que achas que descobriste um lugar secreto. Depois vês o autocolante do Tripadvisor, não foste o único. Procurávamos outro restaurante quando encontrámos uma pequena praça onde se desmontava um mercado, ainda resistiam algumas bancadas e em frente estava esta Osteria.

Espreitámos e não estava muito cheia, ficámos ali a olhar para a ementa uns bons minutos até que algo nos fez entrar, nem sei bem o quê e seguramente que não foi o amontoado de autocolantes que recomendam o restaurante.

La Mescita was an accident, of those that happens and you end up glad because you think you got a secret place. Then you see the sticker on Tripadvisor, you were not the only one. We were looking for another restaurant when we found a small square with a market being dismantled, still there were some benches and in front was this Osteria.
We peeked and it was not very crowded, we stood there looking at the menu a few minutes until something made ​​us come in, I do not even know what, and it certainly was not the pile of stickers that recommend the restaurant.

CAMPO DEI MIRACOLI – PISA, ITÁLIA

Florença foi o ponto central da nossa viagem mas não o único, de lá apanhámos o comboio para Siena e noutro dia (em que tivémos azar com o tempo porque choveu bastante) fomos a Pisa. O principal objectivo era ver este Campo dei Miracoli famoso pela sua Torre inclinada mas que acaba por impressionar mais quando juntamos o Batistério e o Duomo. É realmente incrível como este conjunto arquitectónico vive aqui desde os século XI e XII.
Florence was the central point of our trip but not the only one, from there we took the train to Siena and another day (we had bad luck with the weather because it rained a lot) went to Pisa. The main objective was to see this Campo dei Miracoli famous for its Leaning Tower but ultimately it impresses you more when you see it together with the Duomo and Baptistery. It is truly amazing how this architectural ensemble lives here since the XI and XII century.

Levava comigo uma pequena lista dos restaurantes recomendados de Siena e San Giuseppe estava em primeiro lugar. Ao principio custou-nos um pouco a encontrá-lo mas não tínhamos pressa, fomos conhecendo as ruas do centro histórico de Siena quando chegámos á porta desta osteria, queríamos entender que tal era o restaurante mais recomendado da cidade no TripAdvisor.

I took with me a short list of recommended restaurants in Siena and San Giuseppe was the first. I was a Little hard to find it but we did weren’t in a hurry, we got to discover the streets of the historic center of Siena when we reached the door of this osteria, we wanted to understand why this was the most recommended restaurant City on TripAdvisor.
