Duas curiosidades: a primeira é que este era o museu que nos faltava para completar o famoso triângulo da Arte, a segunda é que os anteriores visitei antes de viver em Madrid o que significa que tive três anos sem completar esse mesmo triângulo.
E se me perguntam de qual gostei mais não conseguiría responder, mas se só tens um dia em Madrid e tens que escolher um eu talvez deixasse este para último. O Prado tem pintores espanhóis dos séculos XVII e XVIII (como Goya e Velázquez) e o Reina Sofia tem mais modernos como Picasso (com o seu famoso “Guernica”), Dali e Miró.
Two curiosities: the first is that this was the museum that we needed to visit to complete the famous Art Triangle, the second is that the others I visited before living in Madrid which means that Ithree years without completing that same triangle.
And if you ask me which one I liked most I could not answer, but if you only have one day in Madrid and you have to choose one I might leave this one to last. The Prado has Spanish painters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (as Goya and Velázquez) and the Reina Sofia has more modern as Picasso (with its famous “Guernica”), Dali and Miró.

Pastelaria Mercedes Mora – Santiago de Compostela, Espanha

Mesmo depois de um bom almoço no Dezaseis a montra da pastelaria Mora despertou uma fome que não sabíamos que existia (também conhecida por gula). Entrámos e já não saímos sem comer algo, mas o quê?
Havia de tudo desde a típica Tarta de Santiago passando por cookies ou croissants. Mas foram mesmo as “caracolas” que nos fizeram sentar, pedir um chá e aconchegar o estômago que pedia uma guloseima.
 
Even after a good lunch at the Dezaseis the window of the Mora pastry shop awoke a hunger that we did not know it existed (aka gluttany). We got in and didn’t leave without eating something, but what?
There was everything from the typical Tarta de Santiago through cookies or croissants. But it was the “Caracolas” that made us sit down, order a tea and tuck the stomach that was calling for a treat.

Casa Baizan – Gijón, Espanha

Passeávamos por Oviedo quando decidimos ir jantar a Gijón, assim de fácil! Difícil foi mesmo escolher o sitio para comer.
Antes de estacionar passámos por umas ruas agitadas com pessoas espalhadas por estreitas ruas com alguns bares, pensámos logo que era ali que tínhamos que ir para jantar. Não estávamos enganados é de facto uma zona muito boa para escolher um sitio para comer com o único problema de que estava tudo cheio. Só á segunda volta conseguimos sentar-nos na Casa Baizan no número 3 da Linares Rivas.
We were walking in Oviedo when we decided to go have dinner in Gijón, that easy! Difficult was to choose the same place to eat.
Before parking we went through some busy streets with people across the narrow streets with a few bars, we thought immediately that this was where we had to go to dinner. We were not mistaken it’s in fact a very good area to choose a place to eat with the only problem that everything was full. At our second try we were able to get a seat in the Casa Baizan at number 3 Linares Rivas Street.

Praça do Obradoiro – Santiago de Compostela, Espanha

Temos que admitir que não fomos os melhores “peregrinos” em Santiago de Compostela. É quase obrigatório entrar na Catedral pela Praça de Obradoiro e nós não o fizémos, aliás só vimos esta famosa Praça justamente da escadaria da porta principal do local de culto ao apóstolo Santiago. E é de facto a melhor forma de a conhecer, daquele ponto mais alto podemos ver o Palacio de Raxoi, o Colégio de S. Jerónimo e o Hostal dos Reyes Católicos.
 
We must admit that we were not the best “pilgrims” in Santiago de Compostela. It is almost mandatory to enter the Cathedral through the Plaza de Obradoiro and we did not, in fact we just saw this famous Square from the steps of the front door of the place of worship of the Apostle Santiago. And it is indeed the best way to discover it, from that highest point we can see the Palacio de Raxoi, the College of St. Jerome and the Hostal Reyes of Catholics.

Devo admitir que marquei este hotel em Santiago de Compostela como quem faz uma compra por impulso. Pesquisei no booking.com vários preços e a única condição que tinha era que ficasse no centro histórico, quando me apareceu o Casas Reais e vi fotos dos quartos marquei logo mesmo sabendo que não era a opção mais barata.
 
I must admit that I booked this hotel in Santiago de Compostela as who makes an impulse purchase. Researched various prices on booking.com and the only condition was that we had to stay in the historic center, when saw the Casas Reais (Royal Houses) bedroom potos I dediced to book it even though it was not the cheapest option.

Levava uma lista de restaurantes onde comer em Santiago de Compostela, este era um deles vinha até no guia do Lonely Planet e depois da recomendação da senhora do hotel onde ficámos não podíamos deixar de o conhecer. Problema: estava escandalosamente cheio! Tal era a coisa que tínhamos que esperar uma hora. “Não faz mal”, dissémos. Vamos só ali á Catedral e já voltamos. Se estava assim de cheio talvez merecesse a espera…

 
I carried a list of restaurants where to eat in Santiago de Compostela, this was one of them that came up in the Lonely Planet guide and after the recommendation of the lady from the hotel where we were staying we had to know it. Problem: it was outrageously full! Such was the thing we had to wait an hour. “It’s OK,” we said. We will just visit the Cathedral. If it was so full that it perhaps deserved the wait …

Dou voltas e voltas a pensar qual o grande encanto de Santiago de Compostela para os que não compartem a fé Cristã. Voltas e voltas a pensar qual é o real interesse da Catedral de Santiago que faz pessoas percorrerem quilómetros e quilómetros a pé para aqui chegarem. Para os que têm fé, para os que acreditam que ali estão na presença de um Apóstolo que comeu ao lado de Jesús Cristos faz todo o sentido e não haverá tantos lugares como este no mundo, mas e os outros?
Eu diría que o mesmo, sejas ou não cristão é impossível ficar indiferente á Catedral e á história que conta, impossível não ter vontade de entrar mesmo arriscando a perder mesa no restaurante que reservámos e nem é das mais bonitas que vimos, mas há todo um respeito e dedicação á sua volta que faz sentir o mesmo.
 
I go round and round thinking what is the great charm of Santiago de Compostela for those who do not share the Christian faith. Round and round thinking what is the real interest of the Cathedral of Santiago that makes people roam miles and miles on foot to reach here. For those who have faith, to those who believe that they are in the presence of an Apostle who ate beside Jesus Christ it makes total sense and there won’t be many places like this in the world, but what about the others?
I would say the same, wether you are Christian or not it’s impossible to remain indifferent to the Cathedral and to the story it tells, impossible not to want to get in even risking losing the table  we booked at the restaurant and it’s not even the nicest we’ve seen, but there is a whole respect and dedication around it that makes you feel the same.

EL DOBLE – OVIEDO, ESPANHA

Chegar até ao El Doble não foi um percurso fácil, caminhávamos pela Avenida de Galicia deslumbrados com toda a oferta gastronómica da rua, porta sim porta sim havia um restaurante ou um bar de tapas. Qual escolher?
A regra diz que se está cheio é porque é bom e ainda fomos a alguns com a esperança de poder sentar em algum lado e comer, acabámos por ficar neste porque outras opções estavam tão cheias que quase nem se podia entrar.
Reaching the El Doble was not an easy journey, we walked along Avenida de Galicia dazzled with all the gastronomic offer in the street, in every door there was a restaurant or a tapas bar. Which one to choose?
The rule says that if it is full because it is good and we visited some still hoping to be able to sit somewhere and eat, we ended up getting in this one because other options were so crowded that you could hardly get in.

Para ficar em Pontevedra escolhemos através do Booking este hotel: Rias Bajas. Como sempre marcámos á última da hora e não sobravam opções centrais mais económicas que esta. Fica mesmo á entrada do centro histórico de Pontevedra numa zona comercial por isso a nossa escolha foi no alvo.
To stay in in Pontevedra we chose this hotel through Booking: Rias Bajas. As always we booked it last minute and with no more centric and economic options left. It is right at the entrance of the historic center of Pontevedra in a commercial district so our choice was spot on.

Depois de ler um artigo sobre a oferta de tapas em Pontevedra na revista espanhola DeViajes tínhamos claro que queríamos comer na Plaza de la Leña ou muito perto. Tínhamos algumas referências mas todos estavam muito cheios e assim viémos dar ao Loaira. O espaço é simpático, pequeno e com uma sala no piso superior para além do mesas fora em plena praça.
After reading an article about “tapas” in Pontevedra in a Spanish magazine called DeViajes we had it clear that we wanted to eat at the Plaza de la Leña or very close. We had some references but all were very full and so we come to the Loaira. The space is nice, small and with a room upstairs in addition to the tables outside in the middle of the square.
