Barcelona Weekend #2

Ainda no primeiro dia seguimos o nosso passeio pela cidade em direcção ao Museu Nacional de Arte da Catalunha (MNAC), onde encontramos alguns dos artistas mais importantes da região ou que ali viveram, quadros de Dalí, Picasso ou peças de mobiliário de Gaudí fazem parte da sua colecção. Para ter uma vista 360º sobre a cidade fomos ao centro comercial Arenas de Barcelona, uma antiga praça de touros. Comemos um gelado em Eixample até voltarmos ao nosso hotel para aproveitar a piscina no rooftop. Terminámos o dia com um jantar no Velódromo.

Still on the first day we continued with our walk through the city towards the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC), where we find some of the most important artists in the region or who lived there, paintings by Dalí, Picasso or pieces of Gaudí furniture are a part of its collection. To have a 360º view of the city we went to the Arenas shopping center of Barcelona, an old bullring. We ate an ice cream in Eixample until we returned to our hotel to enjoy the pool on the rooftop. We finished the day with a dinner at the Velodrome.

Jai-Ca Tapes – Barcelona, Espanha

Uma das primeiras iguarias que comemos em Espanha foi a bomba toledana, uma espécie de croquete com recheio de batata e carne picada, que leva os mesmos molhos que as batatas bravas, um picante e outro de ali-oli. Dizem que não teve origem em Toledo mas sim no bairro marinheiro de Barceloneta. Mais ainda dizem que começou no Jai-Ca Taipes mas na realidade é a La Cova Fumada que reclama o invento seguidos por La Bombeta. Polémicas á parte, depois de um passeio de bicicleta á beira-mar precisávamos de comer umas tapas e beber uma cerveja fresquinha e assim parámos no Jai-Ca.”

One of the first delicacies we ate in Spain was “la bomba toledana” a kind of croquet with stuffing of potatoes and minced meat, which carries the same sauces as the patatas bravas, a spicy one and an ali-oli. They say that it did not originate in Toledo but in the Barceloneta seafaring district. More still say that it started in Jai-Ca Taipes but in reality it is La Cova Fumada that claims the invention followed by La Bombeta. Controversial aside, after a bike ride by the sea we needed to eat some tapas and drink a fresh beer and so we stopped at Jai-Ca.

Passeio Marítimo – Barcelona, Espanha

O Passeio Marítimo é um excelente plano para conhecer a outra face de Barcelona, a que deixa o centro para trás e se dedica a contemplar o mar. Nós decidimos ir pedalando nas nossas bicicletas alugadas (que também eram eléctricas) e saltar de praia em praia aproveitando para ver a arquitetura que lhe dá um toque mais moderno com obras de Frank Gehry ou o Hotel W desenhado por Ricardo Bofill.

The Paseo Marítimo is an excellent plan to get to know the other side of Barcelona, leaving the center behind and contemplating the sea. We decided to go cycling on our rented bikes (which were also electric) and jump from beach to beach taking advantage to see the architecture that gives it a more modern touch with works by Frank Gehry or the Hotel W designed by Ricardo Bofill. Estádio Olímpico – Barcelona, Espanha

De estômago cheio depois do nosso picnic com produtos do Mercado de La Boquería decidimos ir espreitar o Estado Olímpico de Montjuïc. O que vemos hoje já é uma nova adaptação do que inicialmente aqui se construiu em 1929 e que foi inaugurado pelo rei Alfonso XIII bisavô do actual rei de Espanha, Felipe VI.  Quando não têm eventos desportivos ou culturais podes entrar sem pagar nada e podes aproveitar a tranquilidade de um lugar que apela a poucos turistas.

We had a full stomach after our picnic with products from La Boqueria Market and we decided to go and look at the Olympic State of Montjuïc. What we see today is a new adaptation of what was initially built here in 1929 and that was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII the great-grandfather of the current king of Spain, Philip VI. When you do not have sports or cultural events you can enter without paying anything and you can enjoy the tranquility of a place that appeals to few tourists.

Kibuka – Barcelona, Espanha

O ano passado tive a oportunidade de ir várias vezes a Barcelona a trabalho e desde que um colega meu me apresentou o Kibuka sempre que ia passava por aqui. Fui pelo menos umas três vezes provando coisas diferentes de cada vez e voltando aos favoritos de sempre, é um japonês que fica no bairro de Grácia que não é muito grande e está sempre (mas sempre) cheio. Com receitas de sushi mais originais é impossível ficar-lhe indiferente, não sei se é o melhor da cidade mas é sem dúvida um dos melhores para mim.

Last year I had the opportunity to go to Barcelona several times to work and since a colleague of mine introduced me to Kibuka whenever I went, I would come here. I have been at least three times tasting different things at a time and returning to the usual favorites, is a Japanese who is in the neighborhood of Gracia that is not very big and is always (but always) full. With more original sushi recipes it is impossible to remain indifferent to you, I do not know if it is the best in town but it is undoubtedly one of the best for me.

Barcelona Weekend #1

Chegámos a Barcelona na sexta-feira á noite, deu-nos apenas tempo de ir de táxi desde Barcelona-Sants (estação de comboios porque fomos de AVE) até ao nosso hotel o Astoria que fica na Calle Paris em pleno bairro de Eixample, um dos meus favoritos da cidade. No Sábado arrancamos o nosso fim de semana em Barcelona, com um pequeno-almoço num dos spots mais famosos da zona: Cup & Cake (Carrer d’Enric Granados, 145).

We arrived in Barcelona on Friday night and we had only time to go by taxi from Barcelona-Sants (train station because we went there in AVE – high speed train) to our hotel the Astoria which is in Calle Paris in the Eixample district, one of my favorites in the city. On Saturday we start our weekend in Barcelona, with breakfast in one of the most famous spots in the area: Cup & Cake (Carrer d’Enric Granados, 145).

Martinez – Barcelona, Espanha

Fui ao Martinez para um jantar de empresa, os pontos fortes são a sua vista e há quem diga que as paellas principalmente as que levem frutos do mar. Foi sair do táxi nesta zona de Montjuic e começar logo a tirar fotos á cidade e ao porto desde aquele ponto, como eramos um grupo grande ficámos numa esplanada do outro lado que não tinha vista mas o aconselhável é reservar as melhores mesas para aproveitar a experiência ao máximo. Com um ambiente descontraído não se pode dizer o mesmo dos preços, comemos bem e veio bastante comida ainda assim o custo faz-te pensar se repetes a experiência ou não.

I went to Martinez for a company dinner, the strengths are their view and some say that the paellas are specially the ones with seafood. As soon as you get out of the taxi in this area of Montjuic you start taking pictures of the city and the port from that point, as we were a large group we stayed in a terrace on the other side that had no view but it is advisable to reserve the best tables to enjoy the experience the maximum. With a relaxed atmosphere you can not say the same of the prices, we ate well and there came plenty of food yet the cost makes you wonder whether you repeat the experience or not.

Parc de la Ciutadella – Barcelona, Espanha

É o maior parque no centro de Barcelona onde fomos assim que alugámos as nossas bicicletas eléctricas na W4nted. Não é apenas um parque onde dar um passeio e aproveitar as zonas verdes, há um passado histórico que se respira na arquitectura, desde a sua função de antiga fortaleza militar e por isso o nome de Ciutadella. Volta a ganhar uma nova face durante a Exposição Universal de 1888 que recuperou a vida de alguns dos seus edificios e criou novos.

It is the largest park in the center of Barcelona where we went as we rented our electric bikes at W4nted. It is not only a park where to take a walk and enjoy the green areas, there is a historical past that breathes in the architecture, since its function of old military fortress and for that reason the name of Ciutadella. It regains a new face during the Universal Exposition of 1888 that recovered the life of some of its buildings and created new ones.

Mercado de la Boquería – Barcelona, Espanha

Dizem que este mercado já não é o que era, a sua popularidade foi tirando cada vez mais espaço aos pontos que vendem produtos frescos para dar a postos de comida um pouco como o Mercado de San Miguel em Madrid. Há muitas críticas mas é um dos sinais do tempo que não considero mau se a ideia é vender aqui produtos de qualidade e que os seus bares se abasteçam de aí. Os seus ares modernistas do principio do século XX demonstram a evolução de um mercado que dizem existir desde o século XIII. O nosso objetivo: fazer um saquinho de picnic para ir comer a um parque em Montjüic.

They say that this market is no longer what it was, its popularity was taking more and more space from to the stalls that sell fresh produce to give to food stalls a bit like the San Miguel Market in Madrid. There are many criticisms but it is one of the signs of the time that I do not consider bad if the idea is to sell quality products here and that its bars stock up on it. Its modernist airs of the beginning of century XX demonstrate the evolution of a market that they say existed since the XIII century. Our goal: to make a picnic bag to go eat at a park in Montjüic.

Cherry Pecas – Madrid, Espanha

Passámos várias vezes pelo Cherry Pecas a caminho de outros restaurantes, uma delas foi quando visitámos o Madreat, já nos tinha chamado a atenção e decidimos experimentar. Dizem que são um restaurante de Mexditerranean food, comida mexicana de fusão com ingredientes típicos da nossa zona e é verdade que para ser um Tex Mex, nota-se a boa qualidade da sua materia prima, os tomates do pico de gallo são óptimos, o abacate do guacamole marca a diferença, etc..

We passed by Cherry Cherry several times on the way to other restaurants, one was when we visited Madreat, it had already caught our eye and we decided to try it. They say that they are a restaurant of Mexditerranean food, Mexican fusion food with typical ingredients of our area and it is true that to be a Tex Mex, you can notice the good quality of its raw material, the pico de gallo tomatoes are great, the Avocado guacamole makes the difference, etc.
