É o maior parque no centro de Barcelona onde fomos assim que alugámos as nossas bicicletas eléctricas na W4nted. Não é apenas um parque onde dar um passeio e aproveitar as zonas verdes, há um passado histórico que se respira na arquitectura, desde a sua função de antiga fortaleza militar e por isso o nome de Ciutadella. Volta a ganhar uma nova face durante a Exposição Universal de 1888 que recuperou a vida de alguns dos seus edificios e criou novos.
It is the largest park in the center of Barcelona where we went as we rented our electric bikes at W4nted. It is not only a park where to take a walk and enjoy the green areas, there is a historical past that breathes in the architecture, since its function of old military fortress and for that reason the name of Ciutadella. It regains a new face during the Universal Exposition of 1888 that recovered the life of some of its buildings and created new ones.
De essa construção para Exposição destacam-se o Arco do Triunfo que se encontra ao final do passeio de Luis Companys. Chegámos até ali com a bicicleta e passámos pela Cascata Monumental onde parámos para tirar fotos, é um grandioso projecto de Josep Fontserè que se apoio em Antonio Gaudí para criar os sistemas hidráulicos. Um arco de triunfo coroado com uma Quadriga dedicada a Aurora entre várias figuras que adornam a bela cascata, serviram durante a Exposição Universal como bilhete de boas vindas. Seguimos pelos caminhos do parque, passámos pelo lago central, pelo Mamut de Miquel Dalmau e a escultura aos voluntários da Catalunha que lutaram na Primeira Guerra Mundial, até chegar ao edificio do Parlamento. Era o edificio do arsenal da Cidadela, foi restaurado para a Exposição e chegou a albergar a exposição de arte moderna que hoje podemos ver Palácio Nacional de Montjuic. Á saída passámos pela entrada do Zoo da cidade.
From that construction for the Exhibition some buildings stand out like the Arc of Triumph that is at the end of the street of Luis Companys. We got there with the bike and we passed by the Monumental Waterfall where we stopped to take photos, it is a great project of Josep Fontserè who was supported by Antonio Gaudí to create the hydraulic systems. An arc of triumph crowned with a Quadriga dedicated to Aurora among several figures that adorn the beautiful waterfall, served during the Universal Exhibition as a welcome note. We followed the paths of the park, passed through the central lake, by the Mamut of Miquel Dalmau and the sculpture to the volunteers of Catalonia who fought in World War I, until arriving at the building of the Parliament. It was the building of the arsenal of the Citadel, that was restored to the Exhibition and came to house the exhibition of modern art that today we can see in the National Palace of Montjuic. At the exit we passed the entrance of the city zoo.
