Este último fim de semana que passei no Porto foi sem dúvida um dos mais curiosos que tive. Primeiro, ficámos hospedadas no Hotel do Norte que fica junto á Rua Sta. Catarina e que custou 50€ para três pessoas, depois reservámos uma massagem no SPA do Yeatman que é um hotel de cinco estrelas, um dos mais luxuosos da cidade cuja noite pode rondar os 300€. Fica na zona de Vila Nova de Gaia junto ás grandes casas produtoras de vinho Porto e com uma vista para a cidade que é simplesmente fantástica.
This last weekend I spent in Porto was undoubtedly one of the more curious I had. First, we were staying at the Hotel do Norte which is near the St. Catarina Street and it was just 50€ for three people, then we booked a massage at the Yeatman’s SPA which is a five-star hotel, one of the city’s most luxurious a night can cost around 300€. It is in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia with the big houses that produce Port wine and a view over the city that is simply fantastic.

São infinitamente mais as vezes que quero ir a um SPA que na realidade vou. Adoro todo o conceito de relaxamento e tranquilidade destes espaços mas fico sempre a pensar se realmente valem o dinheiro que gastamos. Desta vez ia determinada a aproveitar, oferecemo-nos um mimo e ainda para mais num sitio com uma localização “inmejorable” como dizem os espanhóis, no SPA Caudalie Vinothérapie do Hotel Yeatman.
The times I want to go to a SPA are thousands more tan the ones I really. I love the whole relaxing and peaceful concept of this type of places but I keep thing if they are really worth the money we spend in it. This time I was determined to enjoy it, offering myself a good treat and specially in this amazing location, “inmejorable” has the spanish say, in the Hotel Yeatman’s Caudelie Vinothérapie Spa.

Ontem ia a escrever sobre este Mercado quando vi este um post neste blog: Los Apuntes del Viajero a falar do Mercado de La Boquería de Barcelona e acabei por fechar o blogger pensando porque é que o Bolhão não podía ser assim? Ao ver as suas fotos e as minhas (que é verdade que não sou grande fotógrafa) ficou ainda mais claro, são dois mundos á parte mas deixou-me com um pouco de esperança que os bons exemplos de fora inspirem o Porto e os responsáveis do Bolhão porque na minha (humilde e pouco especializada) opinião precisa de uma renovação e não uma transformação em shopping center porque a cidade já tem suficientes.
Yesterday I was going to write about this market when I saw this one in this blog post: Los Apuntes del Viajero talking about La Boqueria Market in Barcelona and ended up closing blogger wondering why the Bolhão could not be like this? Seeing his photos and mine (it’s true that I am no great photographer) became even more clear, they are two worlds apart but left me with some hope that good examples from outside may inspire Porto and the leaders of Bolhão because in my (humble and low skilled) opinion it needs a makeover and not a transformation to a shopping center because the city has enough.

eat: FRANCESINHA NA BAIXA 2013 – PORTO, PORTUGAL

Eu diría que é obrigatório comer uma francesinha quando estamos no Porto e pelos vistos acertei em cheio no fim de semana para visitar esta cidade porque consegui ir aos últimos dias do Francesinha na Baixa. Um festival dedicado a esta iguaria local (e também bomba calórica) que teve lugar este ano na Praça D. João I e que foi desde o dia 3 até ao 13 de Outubro.
Presentes no evento alguns restaurantes que têm a francesinha como sua especialidade: Santiago, Capa Negra, BB Gourmet e Cufra.
 
I would say that it is mandatory to eat a Francesinha (it’s a Porto speciality, a sandwich with steak, ham, sausages, cheese covered with a tomato and beer sauce)  when we are in Porto and apparently picked the right weekend to visit this city because I got to go to the last days of Francesinha na Baixa (Francesinha downtown). A festival dedicated to this local delicacy (and calorie bomb) which took place this year at Square D. João I  from 3 till 13th of October.
Attending the event where some restaurants that have a Francesinhas has specialty: Santiago, Capa Negra, BB Gourmet and Cufra.

Pagámos 3€ para entrar com direito a uma cerveja e fomos directamente até á barraquinha do Santiago para pedir uma, batemos com o nariz na porta porque nos faltavam umas senhas…ao que parece o evento foi inspirado no Monopólio porque tivémos que estar na fila e trocar dinheiro por papelitos com valores como 10€, 2€, etc..
Fomos no último Sábado e como seria de esperar estava cheio provocando algum tempo de espera, ainda assim havia esperança de sermos recompensados pela nossa paciência de estar em filas para tudo. Voltámos a bater com o nariz na porta no Santiago porque só teriam francesinhas disponíveis depois de uma hora de espera, decidimos ir então ao BB Gourmet que tinha uma proposta mais simples mas que apostava na alta qualidade dos ingredientes utilizando carne de porco e novilho assada e linguiça de porco preto. Achei que estava saborosa mas não enchia tanto como as propostas mais tradicionais.
Durante o evento os preços das francesinhas rondavam os 8-10€, as batatas eram pagas á parte (???) e ainda no BB Gourmet pedimos uns croquetes de alheira que estavam divinais.
É sem dúvida um evento a repetir… 
 
We paid 3€ to go with a beer included and went straight to the Santiago’s stall, our noses hit the door because we were missing some tickets… apparently the event was inspired by the Monopoly because we had to stay in a queue and exchange money for small papers with amounts like 10€ , 2€ , etc. ..Went on last Saturday and as expected it was full causing some waiting time , still we had hopes of being rewarded for our patience to be in queues for everything . We again gave up on Santiago because their francesinhas would only be available after an hour wait , so we decided to go to BB Gourmet that had an offer simpler but betting on high quality of it’s ingredients using roast loin of pork and veal and a black pork sausage. I thought it was tasty but not filling as much as the more traditional proposals .
During the event francesinhas prices were around € 8-10 , the potatoes were paid as a side ( what?? ) And also in BB Gourmet we ordered a sausage (alheira) croquettes which were heavenly .It is certainly an event to repeat …

Este post não foi fácil escrever porque não consigo encontrar palavras para descrever o quanto gostei de Schladming, o quanto eu desejaria que a aldeia do meu pai fosse assim com umas vistas fantásticas para a zona central dos Alpes e preservando o encanto que as casas desta região têm.
Sou fã de praia e o Verão para mim tem que ter mar e sol, mas depois de passear em Agosto por esta região entendo porque muitos optam pela montanha para passar as suas férias.
 
This post was not easy to write because I can not find words to describe how much I enjoyed Schladming, how I wish that my father’s village was like this with it’s fantastic views to the central zone of the Alps and preserving the charm that the houses of that are have.
I am a fan of the beach and summer for me it has to have sun and sea, but after visiting in August this región I understand why many opt for the mountain to spend their vacation.

A 1 de Maio de 1959 a Catedral ou “Dom” de Salzburgo voltou a abrir as suas portas para todos os que quisessem assistir á primeira missa depois da II Guerra Mundial e da reconstrução da cúpula que ficou totalmente destruída após um bombardeio. Hoje podemos apreciar essa mesma cúpula e os frescos que nela estão pintados, há que estar preparado para passar algum tempo a olhar para cima.
The May 1, 1959 the Cathedral or “Dom” in Salzburg again open its doors to all who wanted to attend to the first Mass after the Second World War and the reconstruction of the dome that was completely destroyed after a bombing. Today we can enjoy that same dome and frescos that are painted on it, one must be prepared to spend some time looking up.

Mozart Wohnhaus – Salzurgo, Áustria

O nosso bilhete combinado que compramos na casa onde nasceu Mozart dava para visitar a casa onde viveu depois. Entre os dois museus tenho que admitir que gostei mais do primeiro que visitámos, este não me pareceu ter tanto conteúdo como o outro mas mesmo assim tinha peças importantes da vida de Mozart para além do seu retrato que ainda hoje há dúvidas sobre se realmente é autêntico.
 
Our combined ticket we bought in the house where Mozart was born could also be used to visit the house where he lived after. Between the two museums I have to admit that I enjoyed the first most of, this did not seem to have as much content as the other but still had important parts of the life of Mozart beyond his portrait that still there are doubts about whether it is authentic.

Sou daquelas pessoas que quando viaja leva sempre uma pequena lista de restaurantes da cidade aonde vou, Salzburgo foi a excepção, não levei nenhuma recomendação. Quando chegámos á cidade já tinha passado a tradicional hora de almoço e estávamos com fome, parámos no K+K que foi o primeiro sitio que encontrámos e não nos arrependemos.
I am one of those people that when traveling always takes a short list of restaurants in the city where I’m going, Salzburg was the exception, I took no recommendation. When we got to the city we had passed the traditional lunchtime and we were hungry, we stopped at K + K which was the first place we found and we do not repent.

É talvez o nativo de Salzburgo mais famoso do mundo e nasceu nesta colorida casa que fica no número 9 da Getreidegasse, o seu nome Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Ele e a irmã foram os únicos filhos dos sete que nasceram da modesta familia Mozart, nasceu no dia 27 de Janeiro de 1756 e viveu dezassete anos nesta casa. Foi a primeira porta que “abrimos” para entrar no mundo de um dos maiores génios da música clássica.

It is perhaps the world’s most famous person born in Salzburg and in this colorful house at number 9 Getreidegasse, his name Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He and his sister were the only of the seven children born of modest family Mozart, he was born on January 27, 1756 and lived seventeen years in this house. Entrámos na Josef Holzermayr em busca dos famosos Mozartkugel uns bombons feitos com nougat, maçapão de pistachio cobertos com chocolate negro. Foi Paul Fürst que os criou mas não foi o único a produzi-los por isso tanto na Fürst como na Holzermayer é possível encontrar os verdadeiros e feitos á mão.
Apesar da marca de chocolates existir desde 1865 a loja que fomos foi inaugurada em 1913 e está na praça de Alter Markt. O seu interior mantém a sua tradição e continua a dar vontade de comprar mais do que deveríamos.
We have entered the Josef Holzermayr looking for the famous Mozartkugel some chocolate made ​​with nougat, pistachio marzipan covered with dark chocolate.
