Tenho que confessar que o maior atrativo de este Mosteiro foi mesmo as suas grandes vistas para a cidade, chegámos a fazer a visita cuja a entrada custa 2€ mas que no meu ponto de vista deveria até ser gratuita já que do interior pouco pudemos visitar por remodelações (não vimos por exemplo a igreja). A sua construção começa no século XVI e não deixa de ter o seu interesse com o seu claustro circular tal como a sua igreja.

I have to confess that the greatest attraction of this Monastery was indeed its great views of the city, we made the visit which entrance costs € 2 but in my view it should even be free, since from the inside we could not visit because they were remodeling (we did not see for example the church). Its construction began in the 16th century and is not without its interest with its circular cloister like its church.

O Mercado do Bom Sucesso é um dos mais relevantes da cidade e foi inaugurado na década de 50, como tantos outros em tantas cidades foi depois entrando em declinio para recuperar a sua boa forma com um novo formato onde para além de continuar a vender os produtos frescos como é tradicional se adiciona uma parte de “food court” ampliando a oferta gastronómica da cidade tal como vemos com os Mercados da Ribeira ou Campo de Ourique em Lisboa, ou os de San Ildefonso, San Miguel e tantos outros em Madrid.

The Bom Sucesso Market is one of the most relevant in the city and was inaugurated in the 50’s, like so many others in so many cities it was afterwards declining to recover its good shape with a new format where in addition to continue to sell the fresh products as is traditional a food court was added enlarging the gastronomic offer of the city as we see with the Markets of Ribeira in Lisbon, or those of San Ildefonso, San Miguel and many others in Madrid. Catedral de Barcelona, Espanha

Entrámos na Catedral á hora da missa e só nos apercebemos já quase no final porque começámos a visitá-la entrando por uma porta que dava acesso ao Claustro. E foi excelente porque normalmente são a minha parte favorita dos mosteiros e catedrais, são normalmente zonas que transmitem tranquilidade carregadas de significado histórico e neste caso são muitos anos. Está dedicada á Santa Cruz e a Santa Eulália, padroeira da cidade e cujos restos estão numa cripta na Catedral.

We entered the Cathedral at the time of Mass and we only realized it almost at the end because we began to visit it by entering a door that gave access to the Cloister. And it was excellent because they are usually my favorite part of the monasteries and cathedrals, they are usually areas that convey tranquility loaded with historical significance and in this case its for many years. It is dedicated to Santa Cruz and Santa Eulália, patroness of the city and whose remains are in a crypt in the Cathedral.

Velódromo – Barcelona, Espanha

Tinha estado uma vez antes no El Velódromo mas já tinha jantado e ficou a curiosidade de comer aqui, que mais me fascinou quando entrei foi a sua decoração, a sua estética Art Deco como se fosse uma viagem ao passado, dizem que foi um clássico de Barcelona e um ponto de encontro para pessoas que marcaram a história desde que nasceu em 1933. Com a gestão a cargo de Moritz (a marca de cervejas), a sua carta é de tapas e funcionada das 6h até ás 3h da madrugada.

I had been to El Velódromo once before but had already dined when arrived and was curious to eat here, which fascinated me the most when I entered it was its decor, its Art Deco aesthetic as if it were a trip to the past, say it was a classic of Barcelona and a meeting point for people who have marked the history since it was born in 1933. With the management in charge of Moritz (the brand of beers), its menu is made of tapas and runs from 6am to 3am in the morning.

Museu Nacional de Arte da Catalunha – Barcelona, Espanha

Instalado no Palácio Nacional construído para a Exposição Internacional de 1929, um fantástico edificio com uma excelente localização para ter as melhores vistas sobre a cidade. Se o seu interior já é digno de visita, o Museu com obras impressionantes de várias épocas é um plus, desde a arte Medieval, passando pelo Renascimento, o Barroco e claro, a Arte Moderna que encontrou em Barcelona um berço importante.  Picasso, Gaudí, Casas, Goya, Velázquez, Dalí, são apenas alguns dos artistas que podemos encontrar aqui representados.

Housed in the National Palace built for the International Exhibition of 1929, a fantastic building with an excellent location to have the best views over the city. If its interior is already worthy of visit, the Museum with impressive works from various eras is a plus, from Medieval art, passing through the Renaissance, the Baroque and of course, Modern Art found in Barcelona an important cradle. Picasso, Gaudí, Casas, Goya, Velázquez, Dalí, are just some of the artists we can find here represented.

Jardins de Joan Maragall – Barcelona, Espanha

Eram o objetivo do nosso piquenique, já tinha imaginado estar sentada no relvado de este belo jardim com a nossa cesta composta por productos comprados no Mercado de la Boqueria…mas não, era proibido. Mesmo com isto não retirou o encanto á visita a este pequeno parque com o nome do poeta catalão, Joan Maragall. Fazem parte do Palacete Albéniz, a residência oficial da familia real espanhola quando está em Barcelona.

They were the goal of our picnic, I had already imagined to be sitting on the lawn of this beautiful garden with our basket made up of products bought in Mercado de la Boqueria … but no, it was forbidden. Even with this it did not remove the charm of visiting this small park with the name of the Catalan poet, Joan Maragall. They are part of the Albéniz Palace, the official residence of the Spanish royal family when it is in Barcelona.

Barcelona Weekend #3

Este terceiro post está dedicado ao nosso segundo (e último dia) em Barcelona. Um dia que queríamos que fosse mais calmo que o anterior sem grandes pressas para ver tudo e por isso começámos com um bom pequeno-almoço no Delacrem (onde tínhamos provado anteriormente os gelados). Alugámos bicicletas eléctricas e fomos dar uma passeio pelo Parc de la Ciutadella e pelo Passeio Maritimo. Almoçámos em Barceloneta, comemos um gelado na Rocambolesc e visitámos mais uma obra prima de Gaudí, o Palau Güell. Terminámos o dia com um passeio pelo bairro gótico, uma visita á Catedral e uns pintxos no Txirimiri.

This third post is dedicated to our second (and last day) in Barcelona. A day that we wanted it to be calmer than the previous one without rush to see it all and so we started with a good breakfast at Delacrem (where we had previously tasted the ice cream). We rented electric bikes and went for a stroll through the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Paseo Maritimo. We had lunch in Barceloneta, ate an ice cream in Rocambolesc and visited another Gaudi masterpiece, the Palau Güell. Os irmãos Roca são uma lenda no panorama gastronómico mundial e com bons motivos, o seu restaurante El Celler de Can Roca é considerado um dos melhores do mundo (com três estrelas Michelin) e um menu custa uns 190€ por pessoa. Jordi Roca o mais novo dos três dedica-se ás sobremesas e ao famoso carrinho que se utiliza nos restaurantes, de aí veio a ideia de criar Rocambolesc, onde a sua paixão por gelados se mistura com a originalidade de alguns dos sabores e ingredientes utilizados para complementá-los.

The Roca brothers are a legend in the world gastronomic scene and with good reasons, their restaurant El Celler de Can Roca is considered one of the best in the world (with three Michelin stars) and a menu costs about € 190 per person. Jordi Roca, the youngest of the three, dedicates himself to the desserts and the famous cart used in restaurants. From here came the idea of creating Rocambolesc, where his passion for ice cream mixes with the originality of some of the flavors and ingredients used for Complement them.

La Rambla – Barcelona, Espanha

La Rambla, a famosa rua pedestre que se divide em cinco ramblas cada uma com o seu tema e para entender a sua origem podemos ir ao seu significado árabe: leito de um rio seco. Custa acreditar, mas por aqui chegou a passar um rio e ao ler um artigo da Traveler sobre o tema, recomendam visitá-la em direcção ao mar, por onde desceria a água do rio. Dizem que são 100 as coisas que podemos ver com interesse, eu não contei todas, nem as vou comentar neste post apenas dizer que por mais turística que seja, vale sempre a pena passear por ela.

La Rambla, the famous pedestrian street that is divided into five ramblas each with its theme and to understand its origin we can go to its Arabic meaning: bed of a dry river. It is hard to believe, but here a river has passed and when reading a Traveler’s article on the subject, they recommend visiting it in the direction of the sea, where the river water would descend. They say that there are 100 things that we can see with interest, I have not counted all, nor will I comment on this post just to say that however touristy it may be, it is always worth going for a walk.

Barcelona Weekend #2

Ainda no primeiro dia seguimos o nosso passeio pela cidade em direcção ao Museu Nacional de Arte da Catalunha (MNAC), onde encontramos alguns dos artistas mais importantes da região ou que ali viveram, quadros de Dalí, Picasso ou peças de mobiliário de Gaudí fazem parte da sua colecção. Para ter uma vista 360º sobre a cidade fomos ao centro comercial Arenas de Barcelona, uma antiga praça de touros. Comemos um gelado em Eixample até voltarmos ao nosso hotel para aproveitar a piscina no rooftop. Terminámos o dia com um jantar no Velódromo.

Still on the first day we continued with our walk through the city towards the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC), where we find some of the most important artists in the region or who lived there, paintings by Dalí, Picasso or pieces of Gaudí furniture are a part of its collection. To have a 360º view of the city we went to the Arenas shopping center of Barcelona, an old bullring. We ate an ice cream in Eixample until we returned to our hotel to enjoy the pool on the rooftop. We finished the day with a dinner at the Velodrome.
