Entrámos na Catedral á hora da missa e só nos apercebemos já quase no final porque começámos a visitá-la entrando por uma porta que dava acesso ao Claustro. E foi excelente porque normalmente são a minha parte favorita dos mosteiros e catedrais, são normalmente zonas que transmitem tranquilidade carregadas de significado histórico e neste caso são muitos anos. Está dedicada á Santa Cruz e a Santa Eulália, padroeira da cidade e cujos restos estão numa cripta na Catedral.
We entered the Cathedral at the time of Mass and we only realized it almost at the end because we began to visit it by entering a door that gave access to the Cloister. And it was excellent because they are usually my favorite part of the monasteries and cathedrals, they are usually areas that convey tranquility loaded with historical significance and in this case its for many years. It is dedicated to Santa Cruz and Santa Eulália, patroness of the city and whose remains are in a crypt in the Cathedral.
A sua construção foi feita ao longo de varios séculos e ao visitá-la podemos ver os contrastes entre a arquitetura románica presente na capela de Santa Lúcia, e o gótico que é o estilo que predomina. Os claustros foram construídos no século XIII e por exemplo a fachada só termina no século XIX dizem que com a ajuda de fundos de um particular. Por causa da missa não conseguimos ver todo o seu interior em detalhe mas vimos algumas zonas interesantes. No Claustro está a Font de St. Jordi e á volta podemos ver os gansos que ainda hoje passeiam por ali. A fachada dizem ter sido inspirada nos planos originais do século XV mas só foi construída no século XIX terminando em 1913 com a construção da espiral que está ao centro. Não foi uma visita prolongada, não vimos muito mas o suficiente para conhecer um pouco da sua história e do seu significado para a cidade.
Its construction was done over several centuries and when visiting it we can see the contrasts between the Romanesque architecture present in the chapel of Saint Lucia, and the Gothic style that predominates. The cloisters were built in the thirteenth century and for example the façade only ends in the 19th century they say with the help of funds from a private person. Because of Mass we did not see all of its interior in detail but we saw some interesting areas. In the Cloister is Font de St. Jordi and around we can see the geese that still stroll there. The facade is said to have been inspired by the original plans of the fifteenth century but was only built in the nineteenth century ending in 1913 with the construction of the spiral that is in the center. It was not an extended visit, we did not see much but enough to know a little about its history and its meaning for the city.
