Este terceiro post está dedicado ao nosso segundo (e último dia) em Barcelona. Um dia que queríamos que fosse mais calmo que o anterior sem grandes pressas para ver tudo e por isso começámos com um bom pequeno-almoço no Delacrem (onde tínhamos provado anteriormente os gelados). Alugámos bicicletas eléctricas e fomos dar uma passeio pelo Parc de la Ciutadella e pelo Passeio Maritimo. Almoçámos em Barceloneta, comemos um gelado na Rocambolesc e visitámos mais uma obra prima de Gaudí, o Palau Güell. Terminámos o dia com um passeio pelo bairro gótico, uma visita á Catedral e uns pintxos no Txirimiri.
This third post is dedicated to our second (and last day) in Barcelona. A day that we wanted it to be calmer than the previous one without rush to see it all and so we started with a good breakfast at Delacrem (where we had previously tasted the ice cream). We rented electric bikes and went for a stroll through the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Paseo Maritimo. We had lunch in Barceloneta, ate an ice cream in Rocambolesc and visited another Gaudi masterpiece, the Palau Güell. We finished the day with a tour of the Gothic quarter, a visit to the Cathedral and some pintxos in Txirimiri.
Para começar o dia decidimos voltar ao Delacrem onde no dia anterior provámos os seus deliciosos gelados artesanais e ficámos logo de olho na montra dos bolos. Tem uma agradável esplanada mas decidimos ficar dentro e pedimos um croissant, uma tarte de limão e um bolo de chocolate para além das bebidas. Tudo óptimo com apenas um senão, a tarte de limão estava muito…mas muito amarga.
To start the day we decided to return to the Delacrem where the previous day we tasted their delicious handmade ice cream and we were immediately watching the cake showcase. It has a nice terrace but we decided to stay inside and ordered a croissant, a lemon tart and a chocolate cake in addition to the drinks. Everything great with just a negative, the lemon tart was very … but very bitter.
Procurámos depois uma loja de bicicletas (a W4nted) para alugar duas para dar um passeio pela cidade e começámos pelo o Parc de la Ciutadella. Com muitos pontos de interesse a começar pelo o seu Arco de Triunfo e foi a entrada principal da Exposição Universal de 1888. Mas o ponto alto é sem dúvida a sua Cascata Monumental criada por Josep Fontsere com a ajuda de Gaudí. A coroar este bonito monumento está uma quadriga dourada dedicada a Aurora.
We then looked for a bike shop (W4nted) to rent two for a stroll through the city and we started by the Parc de la Ciutadella. With many points of interest starting with its Arc de Triomphe that was the main entrance of the Universal Exhibition of 1888. But the highlight is undoubtedly its Cascata Monumental created by Josep Fontsere with the help of Gaudí. Crowning this beautiful monument is a golden chariot dedicated to Aurora.
Saímos do Parque rumo a Barceloneta e ao Passeio Maritimo, queríamos conhecer esse lado da cidade que está mais virado ao mar mas que nem por isso virou costas á arquitectura monumental. Para além das praias aquí podemos ver o famoso Pez Dorado de Frank Gehry e Porto Olímpico fruto da transformação desta zona da cidade para acolher os Jogos Olímpicos de 1992.
We left the Park towards Barceloneta and the Paseo Maritimo, we wanted to know that side of the city that is facing the sea but that nevertheless did not turn its back to the monumental architecture. In addition to the beaches here we can see the famous Golden Fish of Frank Gehry and the Olympic Port a product of the transformation of this part of the city to host the Olympic Games of 1992.
Começou a bater a fome e sabíamos que Barceloneta é sinónimo de La Bomba, uma espécie de croquete recheado com puré de batata, carne picada que se serve com molho picante e com ali-oli. Foi aquí que nasceu esta iguaria e decidimos prová-la no Jai-Ca Tapes.
We started to feel hungry and we knew that Barceloneta is synonymous with La Bomba, a kind of croquettes stuffed with mashed potatoes, minced meat served with spicy sauce and with ali-oli. It was here that this delicacy was born and we decided to taste it at Jai-Ca Tapes.
Mas ainda havia espaço para mais qualquer coisa e queríamos regressar ao centro, voltámos á La Rambla para ir a uma gelataria que adoravamos quando fomos á Costa Brava de férias, a Rocambolesc. São gelados de “chef” – nada mais nada menos de que um dos irmãos Roca – onde podes soltar a tua criatividade para preparar o teu escolhendo um sabor base e soltando a imaginação ao combinar os toppings.
But there was still room for more and we wanted to return to the center, we went back to La Rambla to go to a gelato shop that we loved when we went to the Costa Brava on vacation, to Rocambolesc. They are “chef” ice cream – nothing less than one of the Roca brothers – where you can let go of your creativity to prepare yours by choosing a base flavor and letting go of imagination when combining the toppings.
Ali perto visitámos outra obra prima de António Gaudí, o Palau Güell. Concebido para ser a residencia de um dos principais patronos do arquiteto é um edificio neo-gótico construido no final do século XIX. O seu interior vale a pena a visita para perceber como Gaudí foi evoluindo, tem a sua marca sem dúvida mas aquí encontramos influencias do oriente e da arquitetura mudéjar. Uma das minhas salas favoritas foi a da capela-oratório, onde podemos ver uma grande cúpula e uma riqueza de detalhes interessantes.
Nearby we visited another masterpiece by Antonio Gaudí, the Palau Güell. Designed to be the residence of one of the architect’s main patrons, it is a neo-Gothic building built at the end of the 19th century. Its interior is worth the visit to realize how Gaudí was evolving, has its mark no doubt but here we find influences from the east and the Mudejar architecture. One of my favorite rooms was the oratory chapel, where we can see a great dome and a wealth of interesting details.
Ainda a recuperar da grande beleza da visita do Palau Güell, começamos a caminhar em direcção ao bairro Gótico, antes passamos pela Plaça Reial uma agradável praça fechada ao trânsito com agradáveis esplanadas e bares, com a Fonte de las Tres Gracias ao centro e uns candeeiros desenhados pelo próprio Gaudí.
Still recovering from the great beauty of the visit of the Palau Güell, we started walking towards the Gothic quarter, before we passed Plaça Reial a pleasant square closed to traffic with pleasant terraces and bars, with the Fountain of Tres Gracias in the center and some lamps designed by Gaudi himself.
Seguimos caminho até chegar á Praça de S. Jaume, uma das mais antigas da cidade ainda que pelo seu aspecto não pareça já que por exemplo o edificio do Ayuntamiento foi construído em 1847. Outro dos edificios de interesse é o Palácio de la Generalitat, que combina o gótico e o renascimento, um dos poucos da sua época que ainda é utilizado como edificio público. O seu interior vale a pena a visita mas nem sempre está aberto ao público.
We follow our path until we reach the Plaza de S. Jaume, one of the oldest in the city, although its appearance does not seem as for example the building of the Ayuntamiento was built in 1847. Another of the buildings of interest is the Palacio de la Generalitat, that combines Gothic and Renaissance, one of the few of its time that is still used as a public building. Its interior is worth the visit but is not always open to the public.
A Catedral de Barcelona tem na realidade o nome de Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia de Barcelona, a sua construção data do século XV ainda que a fachada que vemos hoje foi construída entre os séculos XIX e XX. Para vê-la entrámos por uma porta lateral onde encontrámos a pequena fonte de Sant Jordi e entrámos no Claustro. Vimos pouco do seu interior porque fomos á hora da missa.
The Cathedral of Barcelona has in fact the name of the Cathedral of Santa Cruz and Santa Eulalia of Barcelona, its construction dates from the fifteenth century although the facade that we see today was built between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. To see it we went through a side door where we found the small fountain of Sant Jordi and entered the Cloister. We saw little of its interior because we went at mass hours.
Por esta altura procurávamos um sitio para comer, algo mais ligeiro antes de ir embora. Ao sair da Catedral ficámos a descansar na Placita de la Seu contemplando as Torres Romanas. Continuámos em busca do nosso desejo gastronómico e “tropeçámos” na Basilica de Santa Maria de Pi e aproveitámos para conhecer o seu interior.
By this time we were looking for a place to eat, something light before we left. On leaving the Cathedral, we rested in Placita de la Seu, contemplating the Roman Towers. We continued searching for our gastronomic desire and “stumbled” in the Basilica of Santa Maria de Pi and decided to discover its interior.
Terminámos o dia no Txirimiri, com uma vontade tremenda de comer uns pintxos antes de entrar no AVE de regresso a Madrid. Esses grandes sabores em pequenas dentadas (e preços) com fatias de pão com tortilha e presunto, paté de frutos do mar, chistorra, etc.. E finalizamos da melhor maneira a nossa visita a Barcelona, outras estão por vir.
