O Domingo passado foi cheio de pequenas descobertas enquanto caminhávamos por Madrid para visitar os habituais lugares de azáfama natalicia. A Taquería Mi Ciudad foi outra delas. Num jantar de equipa, a nossa colega mexicana veio aqui comprar a comida, na altura tinha adorado e fiquei com o cartão mas nunca me dei ao trabalho de procurar o sitio, isto aconteceu há mais de dois anos. Ao ir da Calle Arenal até á Plaza Mayor passei por aqui e não pude resistir, tive que voltar a provar os tacos que dizem ser os mais genuínos da cidade.
 
Last Sunday was full of little discoveries as we walked through Madrid to visit the usual places of the holiday bustle. Taqueria Mi Ciudad was another of them. In a team dinner, our Mexican colleague came here to buy the food at the time remember loving it and got a visiting card but never took the time to look for the place, that happened more than two years ago. As I went from Calle Arenal to the Plaza Mayor we passed through this Taqueria and could not resist, I had to go back to try the tacos said to be the most genuine of the city.

Hoje provei o de Pollo al Mole Poblano com frango com amêndoas, nozes e um toque de chocolate. Pica um pouco, picam todos segundo ela. A outra grande novidade para mim que sou pouco conhecedora da cozinha mais autêntica do México foi o facto da massa ser mole não como aquelas mais rijas que surgiram nos EUA mas que não reflectem a realidade da cozinha “callejera”.
Por 1,50€ comi um taco na taquería mais pequena na Calle Fuentes, têm outra na Calle Hilera que tem mais espaços e mesas para além de uma carta mais ampliada.
Ficaram por provar as Margaritas e o Pastor que foi altamente recomendado.
 
Today I tasted Pollo al Mole Poblano that consists of chicken with almonds, walnuts and a touch of chocolate. Stings a little, poke all she said. The other big news for me that I am somewhat less cultured about the most authentic cuisine of Mexico was that the taco is actually soft not like those hard ones that emerged in the U.S. but that does not reflect the reality of their Street food.
For 1,50€ I have eaten a taco in the smaller taquería on Calle Fuentes, have another on Calle Hilera that has more spaces and tables in addition to a broader menu.
We need to taste the Margaritas and the Pastor that was highly recommended.

Madrid é uma cidade com boas tradições, umas melhores que outras e este Mercado de Natal pode estar no lado das boas com excepção de que tudo o que é tradicional está a evoluir mas aqui parece estar na mesma e é uma pena. Mas já o ano passado falei disso, influenciada por uma visita aos mercados de Natal da Bélgica achei que esse conceito faz falta aqui. Por outro lado e como Madrid é uma cidade grande podemos encontrar uma boa variedade de Mercados e nunca deixar de passar por aqui para manter essa tradição.
 
Madrid is a city with good traditions, some better than others, and this Christmas market may be on the good side with the exception that all that is traditional is evolving but here seems to be the same and it’s unfortunate. But since last year I said, influenced by a visit to the Christmas markets in Belgium that found that concept was lacking here. On the other hand, as Madrid is a great city one can find a good selection of markets and never fail to come to this one to maintain this tradition.

O carroussel continua a funcionar para alegría dos mais pequenos. Igualmente para eles continuam a vender os tais gorros em que a novidade de este ano foram uns em lã com as caras do Super Mario, do bonequinho do Despicable Me, do Faísca, do Spiderman entre outros personagens.
Eu mantenho viva outra tradição que é a de comprar um enfeite para árvore aqui, este ano não foi excepção. Continuo a gostar de ver tudo o que se vende para os presépios mas estou bastante contente com o que tenho feito á mão feito há cinquenta anos pela avó do meu marido.
Com um ringue de patinagem ao centro, algumas barraquinhas de petiscos, mais artesanato local e seria o mercado ideal.
 
The carousel continues to work for the joy of the little ones. Also for them they continue to sell these caps and the novelty of this year were the woolen ones with the faces of Super Mario, the Little doll of Despicable Me, of Lightning McQueen, Spiderman and other characters.
I keep alive another tradition that is to buy an ornament for the tree here, this year was no exception. Still I like to see everything that is sold to the nativity sets but I’m quite happy with the one I have handcrafted made ​​fifty years ago by my husband’s grandmother.
With a skating rink in the center, some snacks stalls, local crafts and more it would be the ideal market.

Este ano e no nosso tradicional passeio navidenho pelas ruas de Madrid encontrei este mercado na Plaza Isabel II. Caminhávamos pela Calle Arenal a caminho do Mercado de Natal da Plaza Mayor e começo a ler Dulce Navidad…com este nome como é que alguém consegue ficar longe?
Não sei há quanto tempo existe mas este ano foi a primeira vez que o vi, aqui vendem-se churros, pão, “empanadas”, todo o tipo de gomas e doces, chocolates, bolinhos de maçapão, etc..
 
This year and during our traditional walk through the streets of Madrid during Xmas time we found this market in the Plaza Isabel II. We walked down Calle Arenal on our way to the Plaza’s Mayor Christmas Market when I start reading Dulce Navidad (Sweet Christmas) … with that name how can anyone stay away?
I do not know how long it exists but this year was the first time I saw it, here they sell churros, bread “empanadas”, all kinds of gums and candies, chocolates, marzipan cookies, etc. ..

Começou em Novembro e termina no dia dos Reis, uma tentação que procura vender os doces mais tradicionais de esta época. Eu gostei de uma bancada em particular, que tinha um “hórreo” (ou espigueiro) galego e que tudo o que vendia tinha proporções gigantescas, como por exemplo os donuts que eram quase do tamanho de um bolo rei para não falar no pão.
Toda uma deliciosa descoberta!
 
It began in November and will end on the day of the Kings, a temptation that seeks to sell the more traditional Candy of this season. I liked a stall in particular that had a galician “hórreo” (or raccard) and everything they sell here had gigantic proportions, like the donuts that were almost the size of a Bolo Rei not to mention the bread.

Desde que vivo em Madrid que sempre tive curiosidade de visitar o Museu do Traje mais ainda depois de ter visto o de Portugal. Mas nunca foi o momento certo até ver na internet que na sexta-feira passada a entrada era gratuita. Foi a desculpa ideal e a isto juntou-se duas exposição temporárias que queria ver: a da icónica boneca Nancy e a das roupas da produção da série Isabel da TVE, que sigo religiosamente todas as segundas-feiras.
Since I live in Madrid have always been curious to visit the Museum of Costume even more after seeing the one from Portugal. But it was never the right time to see it until I saw on the internet that last Friday admission was free. It was the perfect excuse and also with the fact they held two temporary exhibition I wanted to see: the iconic Nancy doll and the clothes from the production of Isabel TVE series, that I follow religiously every Monday.

Ontem foi feriado em Espanha, celebrava-se o Dia da Constituição que aconteceu justamente no ano em que nasci, 1978. Por esse motivo, vários museus tinham entradas gratuitas e um deles foi o Museu do Traje. Aproveitei a “borla” para ir ver a exposição temporária da Nancy que celebra 45 anos como uma das bonecas preferidas das meninas espanholas.
O objectivo era associar a marca espanhola a esta tão icónica e que atravessou fronteiras, para isso juntaram 25 criadores para contribuir para a exposição.
Yesterday was a holiday in Spain, they celebrated the Constitution Day it actually happened in the year I was born, 1978. By that reason, several museums have free admission and one was the Costume Museum (Museo del Traje). I took advantage of the “freebie” to go see the temporary exhibition of Nancy celebrating 45 years as one of the Spanish girls preferred dolls.
The aim was to involve the Spanish Brand with this iconic doll that crossed borders, for it gathered 25 designers to contribute to this exhibition.

A primeira foto deste post é a que melhor ilustra o porquê de eu gostar tanto deste hotel sem nunca ter passado ali uma noite. Tem uma das melhores vistas sobre a cidade de Lisboa e quem aqui fica se tem um quarto como este terá sem dúvida uma excelente estadia.
Não tenho por hábito dormir num hotel quando vou visitar a familia, mas desta vez o que me levou a Portugal foi uma reunião de trabalho que me pediram para organizar e não hesitei. Recebi vários elogios pela minha escolha.
 
The first photo of this post is the one that best illustrates why I liked this hotel so much having never spent a night there. Has one of the best views over the city of Lisbon and who stays here and has a room like this will undoubtedly have a great stay.
I do not have the habit of sleeping in a hotel when I visit the family, but this time what took me to Portugal was a work meeting that I was asked to organize and did not hesitate. I received several compliments on my choice.

Os quartos são modernos e confortáveis, os preços rondam os 110€-120€ por noite com pequeno-almoço que é servido no oitavo andar. Inserido no edificio dos Armazéns do Chiado, tem uma decoração moderna e acolhedora tirando partido da sua mais valia: a vista. Os nossos tinham uma pequena varanda e estavam no sétimo andar, foi acordar e dar os bons dias ao Castelo de S. Jorge.
No mesmo piso está o bar Entretanto que recomendo pela sua esplanada e de onde se pode usufruir dessa magnifica vista.
Uma nota especial a todos os empregados do hotel, como fomos para uma reunião de trabalho tivémos alguns percalços de agendas, tivémos que lhes pedir ajuda várias vezes e sempre foram cordiais e eficientes, desde o senhor da manutenção á recepção.
 
The rooms are modern and comfortable, the prices are around 110 € -120 € per night with breakfast which is served on the eighth floor. Inserted in the Warehouses Chiado building, has a warm, modern décor taking advantage of its added value: the view. Ours had a small balcony and were on the seventh floor, was waking up and give the good days the castle of St. Jorge.
On the same floor is the bar Entretanto I recommend for it’s terrace and from where you can enjoy this magnificent view.
A special note to all employees of the hotel, as we went to have a working meeting we had some mishaps in the agenda, we had to ask them for help several times and have always been friendly and efficient, from maintenance through reception.

Depois da visita ao Museu do Romantismo, nada mais dentro do tema que sentar numa das mesas do Café del Jardín, beber um chá e comer uma fatia dos seus deliciosos bolos. Há muito tempo que perguntava se Madrid teria um sitio deste, um salão de chá tranquilo onde passar o resto da tarde sem pensar no frio que faz na rua. Se tivesse uns scones na ementa (eu não vi) com compota e já seria o meu sitio preferido da cidade.
 
After our visit to the Museum of Romanticism, nothing like keeping the theme and sit in one of the tables of the Café del Jardín, drinking tea and eating a slice of their delicious cakes. We have long wondered whether Madrid had a place of this, a tea room quiet to spend the rest of the afternoon without thinking about the cold weather in the street. If it had some scones on the menu (I have not seen) with jam and would became my favorite place in town.

Pedi um chá branco com morango e banana e para comer uma fatia de bolo de abóbora com lima e gengibre. Toda uma descoberta porque o bolo estava excelente. Uma óptima combinação de sabores e que me fará voltar de certeza.
Quando chegámos estava apenas uma mesa com um casal de italianos que estavam a almoçar porque também servem aqui refeições ligeiras e tem um menú especial para os pequenos-almoços. Os chás custam 1,8€-2,5€ e as fatias de bolo chegam aos 5€.
 
I ordered a white tea with strawberry and banana and had a slice of pumpkin cake with lime and ginger. It was a whole discovery because the cake was excellent. A great combination of flavors and that will make me come back for sure.
When we got there was just a table with an Italian couple who were having lunch here because they also serve light meals and has a special menu for the breakfast. The teas cost 1,8€ and 2,5€ and the slices of cake to reach 5€.

O ano passado, enquanto estava de licença de maternidade visitei o Museu Cerralbo e apercebi-me que gosto muito de visitar as casas-museu. Na realidade sempre tive muita curiosidade de saber como vivia a sociedade no século XIX e o Museu do Romantismo (ou del Romanticismo) tenta recriar essa época junto várias peças de um ávido coleccionador: o Marquês de la Vega-Inclán.
Last year, while on maternity leave I visited the Cerralbo Museum and I realized that I love to visit museums that are houses. In fact I was always very curious to know how the society lived in the nineteenth century and the Romanticism Museum attempts to recreate that era with several pieces of an avid collector: the Marquis de la Vega-Inclan.

Se pesquisas pelo Bazaar nos vários blogs que nos trazem o melhor de Madrid, todos utilizam as mesmas palavras para o descrever: bom, bonito e barato. Uma combinação a que poucos conseguem chegar simplesmente pelo barato que se muda a caro. Esteve na moda e creio que ainda hoje se mantém cheio pelo facto de que podes comer por 20€-25€ por pessoa com uma entrada, dois pratos e uma sobremesa por exemplo.
If one searches for Bazaar in various blogs that bring us the best of Madrid, all use the same words to describe it: good, nice and cheap. A combination that few can get simply because of the cheaper part that usually changes into expensive. It was once a trendy and I believe remains full because you can eat for 20–25€ per person with an entrance, two dishes and a dessert for example.

Mais um ano em Madrid e mais um ano que (quase) perco a Mostra Portuguesa. Uma semana cultural onde podemos matar saudades dos nossos artistas e conhecer novas caras do panorama artístico luso. O motivo pelo o qual as perco é que nesta altura é quando mais viajo por trabalho e muitos dos concertos ou actividades são a días de semana o que se torna complicado gerir com crianças. Conseguimos no entanto ver a exposição do pintor Domingos Sequeira no Museo del Romanticismo…e grátis!
 
Another year in Madrid and another year that (almost) lose the Portuguese Festival. A cultural week where we can relive memories of our artists and meet new faces of the Portuguese art scene. The reason why I always miss it is that this time is when I travel more with work and many of the concerts or activities are on week days so it becomes complicated to manage with children. We could however see the exhibition of the painter Domingos Sequeira at the Museo del Romanticism … and free!

A sua exposição não é muito grande, destaca-se o retrato de familia do Visconde de Santarém e possibilidade de ver alguns quadros e esboços da colecção do Museu de Arte Antiga em Lisboa.
Perdemos o concerto da Jacinta que foi no dia 21 de Novembro mas para o dia 26 de Novembro, Esperanza Fernández canta poemas de José Saramago e na quarta-feira dia 27, Cuca Roseta traz o fado até Madrid. Uma pena estar em Portugal por esses días (a trabalho) mas ficarei sem dúvida mais atenta ás Mostras Portuguesas porque não me consigo perdoar ter perdido Jacinta.
A mostra está presente em outras cidades espanholas como Barcelona, Oviedo, Segovia e Sevilha.
 
His exhibition is not very big, there is a picture of the Viscount of Santarém family and the possibility of seeing some paintings and sketches from the collection of the Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon.
We missed the a concert of Jacinta that was on November 21 but on November 26, Esperanza Fernández sings poems by José Saramago and on Wednesday the 27th, Cuca Rosette brings fado to Madrid. A shame that I will be in Portugal these days (to work) but I’ll definitely try to follow more closely this portuguese event because I can not forgive myself for having missed Jacinta.
The festival is present in other Spanish cities such as Barcelona, Oviedo, Segovia and Seville.
