Os irmãos Roca do famoso restaurante El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considerado o melhor restaurante do mundo) decidiram transformar o seu carrinho de sobremesas numa gelataria ambulante, pelo menos essa foi a ideia original mas acabaram por “estacioná-lo” em duas lojas: uma em Girona e esta em Platja D’Aro que eu tive o privilégio de visitar…duas vezes.
The Roca brothers of the famous restaurant El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considered the best restaurant in the world) decided to transform their dessert cart into a moving icecream parlour, at least that was the original idea but eventually they had to”park it” in two stores : one in Girona and this one Platja D’Aro I had the privilege of visiting … twice.

Praia La Fosca – Costa Brava, Espanha

Fomos á La Fosca já da parte da tarde depois de uma decepcionante viagem até a Jonquera onde diziam que encontraríamos autênticas “pechinchas” em perfumes, etc.. e afinal encontrámos meia dúzia de lojas a venderem o mesmo e nem achámos os preços por aí além. Necessitávamos de uma boa tarde de Praia para o compensar e La Fosca não desiludiu, tinha apenas um defeito não conseguimos estacionar sem ter que pagar.
We went to La Fosca only in the afternoon after a disappointing trip to Jonquera where some said we would find true “bargains” in perfumes, etc. .. and finally we found half a dozen shops all selling the same and  in neither we felt the prices where that low. We needed a good afternoon in the beach to compensate for this and did La Fosca did not disappoint, had only one fault we could not park without having to pay.

Praia da Empuriabrava – Costa Brava, Espanha

Estamos a uma semana de ir de férias, o ano passado pelo nascimento do nosso segundo filho ficámos sem as tradicionais férias de Verão passadas na praia. Este ano decidimos voltar á Costa Brava que visitámos em Julho de 2011. Nunca cheguei a ter muito tempo para publicar aqui as praias que onde disfrutámos do bom tempo quando lá estivémos e decidi recuperar esses posts agora. O primeiro é com a Praia da Empuriabrava.
We’re one week away to go on vacation, last year because of the birth of our second child we were without the traditional summer holidays spent in beach. This year we decided to exit to Costa Brava which we visited in July 2011. I never really had much time to post here the beaches where we enjoy the good weather when we were there and decided to recover these posts now. The first is of the Empuriabrava Beach.

Catedral de St. Vitus – Praga, República Checa

Foi o primeiro monumento que fomos visitar dentro do complexo do Castelo de Praga, a Catedral de St. Vitus (ou Vito) era um dos lugares que não queríamos deixar de visitar na cidade.

Apesar do seu exterior de estilo gótico, esta Catedral só ficou completa no século XX antes da sua consagração a 1929, quase seiscentos anos depois da primeira pedra da sua construção e de ter passado por outros estilos arquitectónicos, por um incêndio até ao que vemos hoje.

It was the first monument that we visited within the complex of the Prague Castle, the Cathedral of St. Vitus (or Vito) was one of the places we could not miss while visiting the city.
Despite its Gothic style exterior, this cathedral was completed only in the twentieth century before his consecration to 1929, almost six hundred years after the first stone of its construction and having passed by other architectural styles, survived a fire until what we see today.

O nosso primeiro hotel em Praga ficava nesta rua junto á Ponte Cechuv e foi nela que andámos para chegar até á Praça da Cidade Velha. Fica em pleno Josefov e é considerada uma das ruas mais caras de toda a cidade talvez pela sua concentração de lojas com marcas de luxo como Dior, Hermés, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Gucci, Mont Blanc, entre tantas outras.
 
Our first hotel in Prague was in this street near the bridge Cechuv and it was that we went to get until the Old Town Square. Josefov is in full and is considered one of the most expensive streets of any city may by its concentration of shops with luxury brands such as Dior, Hermes, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Gucci, Mont Blanc, among many others.

Mas para mim o que mais gostei nesta rua foram os seus elegantes edificios, quase todos construídos no inicio do século XX e com inspiração Art Déco. Não digo que as montras não sejam interessantes mas a decoração destes edificios tem pormenores que não se devem deixar escapar, gostei em particular das varandas com esculturas masculinas em vez dos tradicionais pilares.
Além de lojas por aqui estão também alguns dos restaurantes mais conhecidos (e caros) da cidade e o Black Image Theatre (Website: http://www.imagetheatre.cz/en/) que funciona com um jogo de luzes coloridas e fundos negros o que dá lugar a criativas obras de teatro. Recomendo ver o site principalmente a galería, uma pena não ter ido com mais tempo porque tentaría não perder um espectáculo aqui.
 
But for me what I liked most in this street was its elegant buildings, almost all built in the early twentieth century and inspired by Art Deco. I do not say that the shops windows are not interesting but the decor of these buildings have details that you shouldn’t miss,I especially liked the balconies with sculptures of men instead of the traditional pillars.
Besides the shops in this Street there are also some of the most popular restaurants (and expensive) city and the Black Image Theatre (Website: http://www.imagetheatre.cz/en/) that works with a set of colored lights and the black backgrounds which gives a creative theater. I recommend viewing the site mainly gallery, a pity I didn’t had more time because I would have tried not to miss a show here.

No pouco tempo que estivémos em Praga não saberia definir como é a sua cozinha local, o primeiro restaurante a que fomos era italiano e quando jantámos no hotel a cozinha era internacional. Mas uma coisa reparei tanto no hotel como em outros restaurantes: peixe e carne na grelha.
Dizem que por ter um país muito verde, com bom pasto e por isso a carne é (quase) sempre de qualidade e nos bons restaurantes cozinhada no carvão, o Vojanuv chamou-nos a atenção por isso e pela sua esplanada.
 
In the short time we were in Prague could not define how their local cuisine, the first restaurant we went to was Italian and had dinner at the hotel when the kitchen was international. But one thing I noticed in both the hotel and other restaurants: fish and meat on the grill.
They say that by having a very green country with good pasture the meat is (almost) always of good quality and cooked in restaurants with barbecue, Vojanuv drew our attention because of that and its terrace.

Logo á entrada podemos ver uma pequena casa onde está a grelha, dali podem sair pratos de carne, verduras e peixe. A zona exterior é das maiores que já vi num restaurante e ainda têm várias salas interiores, como fomos tarde não estava cheio e ainda serviam refeições.
Ao que parece está instalado nas antigas cavalariças de um palacio que no século XIX pertenceu ao Principe Alfred Windish-Grätz.
Pedimos o prato do dia que era um lombo de vaca e legumes grelhados, á parte pedimos uma dose de batatas fritas porque não sabíamos que vinham batatas no forno. A carne estava óptima, suculenta e trazia um raminho de tomilho que pessoalmente gosto da combinação.
Foi uma agradável descoberta porque entrámos quando descemos do Castelo já famintas e decidimos parar neste restaurante para comer. O menú rondava os 15€ (395 coroas cz) e não comemos sobremesa porque o parte de carne foi suficiente para saciar a nossa fome.
 
Right at the entrance we see a small house where the grill is, from there may come out meat, vegetables and fish dishes. The area outside is one of the largest I’ve ever seen in a restaurant and it even has several interior rooms as we arrived late it was not full and still served meals.
Apparently it is installed in the old stables of a nineteenth-century palace that belonged to Prince Alfred Windish-Grätz.
We ordered the daily special which was a sirloin with grilled vegetables, we also ordered some fries on the side because we didn’t knew by then that it brought potatoes baked in the oven. The meat was great, juicy and with a sprig of thyme that I personally like the combination.
It was a pleasant discovery because when we went down the Castle we were already hungry and decided to stop to eat at this restaurant. The menu was around 15€(395 kroner cz) and we did not eat dessert because the piece of meat was enough to satisfy our hunger.

Cansadas de tanto caminhar para chegar ao Castelo e depois para voltar decidimos entrar num destes carros que já tínhamos visto passear pela cidade. Ao principio parecía-nos uma daquelas ratoeiras turísticas mas quando só vais um dia podem ser uma óptima solução para conhecer a cidade sem andar muito.
Éramos três pessoas e o preço era de 1200 coroas = 50€ (aprox.) por meia hora e para ver o essencial de Praga. 
 
Tired of walking to get to the castle and then decided to go back in one of these cars we had seen around the city. At first it seemed to us one of those tourist traps but when you only have one day it can be a great solution to discover the city without walking too much.
We were three people and the price was 1200 crowns = 50 € (approx.) for half an hour and to see the essencial Prague.

Partimos de Malá Strana e tentei reconstruir o trajecto no final do post. Passámos primeiro pelo Memorial das Vítimas do Comunismo, passámos a ponte sobre o rio Moldava de onde pudémos ver a Casa Dançante (criada por Frank Gehry e Vlado Milunic), depois o Teatro Nacional que ficava próximo do nosso segundo hotel em Praga.
Começamos a entrar em Staré Mesto, passámos na Rotunda da Santa Cruz que se mantém neste local desde o século XI. Pelo caminho o motorista fazia de guía, em inglês ia indicando cada monumento, apontou para as casas onde viveu Beethoven e onde nasceu Franz Kafka.
Passámos pela Praça da Cidade Velha, pelo Bairro Judio até voltar a atravessar o rio e entrar na Lesser Town chegando ao fim do nosso trajecto.

We start from Malá Strana and I tried to reconstruct the route at the end of the post. First we passed by the Memorial of the Victims of Communism, we passed the bridge over the Vltava river where we were able to see the Dancing House (designed by Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunic), then the National Theatre which was close to our second hotel in Prague.
We started to get in Stare Mesto, we  passed by the Rotunda of the Holy Cross that is in the same site since the XI century. While we were doing the tour the driver was our guide, who in English would indicate each monument, pointed to the house where Beethoven lived and where Franz Kafka was born.
We passed by the Old Town Square, the Josefov until we crossed the river again to return and we got into the Lesser Town getting to the end of our journey.

Passámos vezes sem conta á porta desta loja e fomos guardando a sua visita para o fim, é fácil entender a nossa estratégia íamos sair com sacos recheados e não queríamos passear por Praga e ter que os carregar.
É uma loja de produtos produzidos no país e a sua especialidade são os cremes, os sabonetes, etc.. Mas eu fiquei particularmente “viciada” nos jogos de madeira.
 
We passed countless times by the door of this store and went guarding his visit to the end, it’s easy to understand our strategy we were leaving with bags stuffed and did not want to walk around Prague and having to carry them.
It is a store of products produced in the country and specializes in creams, soaps, etc. .. But I was particularly “addicted” in wooden games.

Eu diria que se queres fugir ao tradicional “souvenir” esta é a melhor loja para o fazer porque não deixa de comprar um produto Made in Praga mas pelo menos compras algo que pode ser útil ou que não diga directamente que compraste ali. Demorámos quase uma hora na loja e não é grande mas tem tanto por onde escolher que é difícil trazer só uma coisa, menos mal que tinha pouco espaço na mala. Além disso os preços são acessíveis.
Comprei umas canecas de esmalte (que andava procura á algum tempo), um sabonete que veio a viagem a perfumar a mala e um brinquedo que não consegui tirar foto que é uma roca de madeira para o nosso bébé.
O sabonete é de uma linha de produtos que chamam Beer (cerveja) Cosmetics e utilizam os mesmos ingredientes que na produção da cerveja. Os brinquedos quase todos de madeira são para várias idades, carrinhos, comboios ou puzzles didáticos.
 
I would say if you want to escape the traditional “souvenir”  this is the best store to do it because it lets you buy a product Made in Prague but something that can be useful and it doesn’t say directly you bought it there. We stayed almost an hour in the store and is not large but it has so much to choose from that it is difficult to bring only one thing, it was a good thing that it had little space in the suitcase. Also the prices are affordable.
I bought some enamel mugs (that I was searching for some time), a soap that came the trip to perfume the bag and a toy that I could not take a picture that is a wooden rattle for our baby.
The soap is from a line of products called Beer (beer) Cosmetics and use the same ingredients in beer production. The toys are almost all in Wood and for various ages, trolleys, trains or educational puzzles.

Krusta – República Checa

Tenho que confessar que entrei na Krusta para comprar um Trdlo (ou Trdelnik) mas quase estive para provar um a um os bolos que tinham expostos, os muffins, os croissants e até o folhado de salchicha. Mas o que realmente nos atraiu foi o cheiro dos Trdlo a sairem de um forno. Estes bolos feitos com uma massa especial levam depois com uma cobertura de caramelo, amêndoas e açúcar.
I must confess that I entered Krusta to buy a Trdlo (or Trdelnik) but almost tasted one by one the cakes that were exposed, muffins, croissants and even the sausage wrapped in puff pastry. But what really attracted us was the smell of Trdlo coming out of an oven. These cakes made with a special dough get after a crust with a caramel topping, almonds and sugar.

Intercontinental – Praga, República Checa

O Intercontinental de Praga ficará para sempre na minha memória (e no meu coração) como o primeiro (e creio que o único) hotel onde estive alojada numa suite presidencial. Até aqui nunca tinha estado numa e nem na porta ao lado, desconfio que nem sequer no mesmo piso.
Se tivesse ido a Praga sem ser a trabalho talvez não tivesse escolhido este hotel porque é caro e porque quando visitas uma cidade queres aproveitar o tempo ao máximo por isso uma cama e toalhas lavadas são o suficiente, mas isto foi outra história…a suite presidencial foi máximo mesmo que tivesse sido por overbooking.
The Intercontinental Prague will be forever in my memory (and my heart) as the first (and I believe the only) hotel where I was housed in a presidential suite. Hitherto I had never been in one and not even next door, I suspect that not even on the same floor.
If I had gone to Prague without being at work I might not have chosen this hotel because it is expensive and because when visiting a city you want to maiximize your time exploring so a bed and washed towels are enough, but this was a different story … presidential suite was top even if it was because they were overbooked.
