Confissão: adoro ir ao Madame Tussauds. Volto a ser criança, a saltar de alegria por ver o Tom Hanks de perto ou esperar na fila ansiosa por tirar uma fotografia com o E.T.. A primeira vez que fui ao de Londres teria uns quinze anos e adorei tocar em estrelas que admirava nos ecrãs sem os conhecer de carne e osso, na realidade aqui também não mas entras nesse mundo da ilusão em que podes tirar uma selfie com a Mockingjay.

Confession: I love going to Madame Tussauds. Back to being a child, jumping with joy seeing Tom Hanks so close or wait in a queue eager to take a picture with the ET. The first time I went to the one in London I was fifteen and loved touching stars I admired the screens without knowing them in the flesh, in reality here you don’t either but you enter this world of illusion in which you can take a selfie with the Mockingjay.

Patty & Bun -Londres, Inglaterra

Tinha visto recomendações na TimeOut sobre o Patty&Bun, falam de um dos melhores hamburguers da cidade de Londres e sentimos a obrigação de os provar. Fomos ao que está na James Street e estava cheio, gente fora á espera alguns já com um ar desesperado como no nosso caso estamos a falar de uma mesa para dois conseguimos rapidamente entrar na sua pequena sala com pouco mais de trinta lugares sentados. E quando provas os hamburguers entendes porque é que há fila fora…valem mesmo a pena.

I had seen recommendations on TimeOut about Patty & Bun, they spoke about one of the best burgers in the city of London and we felt obliged to taste them. We went to the one on James Street and was full, there were people outside waiting witha desperate look in their faces but as in our case we are talking about a table for two we could quickly enter their small room with just over thirty seats. And when you taste the hamburgers you understand why there is queue outside … it’s quite worth it.

Boulangerie du Théâtre – Caen, França

Alugar uma casa no Airbnb tem várias vantagens mas há uma que talvez tenha que ver com a sorte, no nosso caso quando fomos a Caen ficámos num bonito apartamento no centro da cidade e com uma carta dos proprietários (escrita em francês é certo) que recomendava alguns sitios para comer além de dar algumas indicações úteis como localização de farmácias, supermercados, etc.. Mas a melhor de todas foi mesmo a da Boulangerie du Théâtre onde recomendavam comprar os bolos para o pequeno-almoço e foi uma autêntica descoberta.

Renting a house in Airbnb has several advantages but there is one that may have to do with luck, in our case when we went to Caen we were in a beautiful apartment in the city center and a nice letter from the owner (written in French its true) which recommended some places to eat besides giving some useful information such as location of pharmacies, supermarkets, etc .. But the best of all was the Boulangerie du Théâtre in which they recommended buying cakes for breakfast and it was a real Discovery.

Igreja Saint-Pierre – Caen, França

A melhor vista para a Igreja de Saint-Pierre é desde o Castelo de Caen, só do alto das suas muralhas conseguimos ter uma foto completa já que a sua torre tem cerca de setenta e cinco metros de altura. De estilo gótico, a primeira construção data do século XIII mas foi sofrendo alterações até ao século XVI. Também ela sobreviveu á II Guerra Mundial, o que teve que ser reconstruído foi exatamente essa torre que estava de pé desde o século XIV.

The best views of the Church of Saint-Pierre is from the Castle of Caen, only from the top of its walls we can have a complete picture as its tower has about seventy-five meters high. Has a Gothic style, the first construction is from the thirteenth century but has undergone changes until the sixteenth century.It also survived World War II and what had to be rebuilt was exactly the tower that stood there since the fourteenth century.

Castelo Ducal – Caen, França

Entrei no Castelo de Caen á espera de ver o normal: muralhas, uma torre de menagem, ruínas, algum canhão e com sorte um pequeno museu ou salas preservadas, não defraudou mas aqui encontras muito mais que isso, no seu interior estão dois museus importantes o de Belas Artes e o da Normandia. Um sobrevivente da Guerra dos Cem Anos e da Segunda Guerra Mundial mas não sem mazelas que foram sendo recuperadas ao longo de estes anos.

I entered the Château de Caen waiting to see the usual: walls, a tower, ruins, some cannons and hopefully a small museum or preserved rooms, not defrauded but you will find that here there is huch more than that, inside are two important museums the Fine Arts and the Normandy. A survivor of the War of the Hundred Years and the Second World War but not without blemishes that have been recovered over the years.

Le Bouchon du Vaugueux – Caen, França

A zona do Vaugueux é uma das mais animadas de Caen no que diz respeito a bares e restaurantes, fica aos pés do Castelo muito perto da Igreja de Saint Pierre e é conhecida pela sua oferta gastronómica onde sem dúvida destacaria o Le Bouchon, cuja tradução seria rolha. Não é muito grande talvez por isso sentimos um ambiente mais intimo e até romântico, a carta na sua maioria com receitas da região divide-se em menus com dois pratos e uma sobremesa.

The area of Vaugueux is one of the liveliest of Caen with regard to bars and restaurants, is at the foot of the Castle very near to the Church of Saint Pierre and is known for its gastronomic offer which undoubtedly I would highlight the Le Bouchon, whose translation would be cork. It’s not very big so maybe feel a more intimate and even romantic atmosphere, the letter mostly with recipes of the region is divided into menu with two dishes and a dessert.

Museu do Memorial de Caen – França

O Museu do Memorial de Caen foi o último que visitámos sobre a II Guerra Mundial, depois de visitar as praias, o cemitério americano, ver alguns documentários nos vários museus por onde passámos aqui demos por encerrado um capítulo das nossas férias em França que foi culturalmente interessante mas que não deixa de relembrar um passado muito negro. Vimos várias exposições e não explorámos ao máximo porque chegámos uma hora e meia antes de fechar mas foi o suficiente para conhecer ainda mais sobre este momento da história e chegar a ter pele de galinha quando ouvimos numa sala escura a voz furiosa de Hitler.
The Memorial Museum of Caen was the last we visited on World War II, after visiting the beaches, the American cemetery, seeing some documentaries in the various museums where we went to,  here we closed a chapter of our holiday in France that was culturally interesting but not without remembering a very dark past. We saw several exhibitions and didn’t explore to the fullest because we arrived a half hour before closing but it was enough to know even more about this moment in history and get to have goose bumps when we heard in a dark room the raging voice of Hitler.

Callejón Jorge Juan – Madrid, Espanha

O bairro de Salamanca é um dos mais animados no que diz respeito a restaurantes e a compras que se espalham entre ruas como a Goya, Serrano e Velazquez outras são menos conhecidas mas têm lojas igualmente interessantes de marcas mais pequenas ou menos comerciais como por exemplo a Calle Lagasca e a Jorge Juan e justamente ao passar por esta última encontrámos o que chamam de Callejón, uma colorida rua sem saída com pequenas lojas com algumas marcas conhecidas.
 

The neighborhood of Salamanca is one of the liveliest in regards to restaurants and shopping that spread from streets like Goya, Serrano and Velazquez others are lesser known but with equally interesting shops of smaller brands or less commercial such as Calle Lagasca and Jorge Juan and just passing by the latter have found what they call Callejón, a colorful dead-end street with little shops with some well-known brands.

Faro de Moncloa – Madrid, Espanha

Reabriu o ano passado um dos pontos mais altos de Madrid depois de uma década fechado por motivos de segurança, o Faro de Moncloa tem cento e dez metros de altura e foi inaugurado em 1992 a tempo para as celebrações da Capital Europeia da Cultura. O seu nome original era a Torre de Iluminação e Comunicação, dizem que seria para ajudar a controlar o trânsito numa das mais movimentadas entradas para o centro de Madrid mas logo na abertura surgiram alguns problemas com a torre e em 2005 por não cumprir todas as normas de segurança fechou até 2015…

Reopened last year one of the highest points of Madrid after a decade closed for security reasons, the Faro de Moncloa is hundred and ten meters high and was opened in 1992 in time for the celebrations of the European Capital of Culture. Its original name was the Tower Light and Communications, said it would be to help control traffic in one of the busiest entrances to the center of Madrid but in the opening there were some problems with the tower and in 2005 because it did not meet all standards security closed 2015 …

O bairro de Chamberí é um dos meus favoritos de Madrid e dos que continua a ganhar novos restaurantes como este Perrachica dos mesmos de Marieta e Pipa & Co (Grupo Larrumba) e isso nota-se tanto na carta como na decoração que é simplesmente extraordinária. Reservámos antes de ir e os únicos dias disponíveis eram a segunda e a terça, está sempre cheio e é o novo lugar da moda, para ver e ser visto.
The Chamberí neighborhood is one of my favorites Madrid and it continues to gain new restaurants like this Perrachica of the some owners of Marieta and Pipa & Co (Larrumba Group) and it shows both in the menu and in decor that is just extraordinary. We made a reservation before we went and the only days available were monday and thuesday, it is always full and is the new trendy place to see and be seen.
