Dedicada ao Infante D. Henrique também conhecido como o Navegador tem como ponto central a uma estátua que o representa apontando para o mar e para as grandes conquistas que se produziram na época dos Descobrimentos. Mas este não é o principal ponto de interesse da praça, há muitos mais construídos em épocas diferentes mas todos com o seu próprio conteúdo histórico, desde o Palácio da Bolsa, a Igreja S. Nicolau, o Instituto do Vinho do Porto e o Mercado Ferreira Borges.

Dedicated to the Infante D. Henrique also known as the Navigator has as the center point a statue that represents him pointing towards the sea and to the great conquests that took place in the time of the Discoveries. But this is not the main point of interest of the square, there are many more built in different times but all with their own historical content, from the Stock Exchange Palace, S. Nicolau Church, the Port Wine Institute and the Ferreira Borges Market.

O Porto é uma excelente cidade para conhecer andando, principalmente o seu centro histórico, o metro é recente mas por exemplo para ir com o carro é mais caótica, o que a faz ser bonita (ruas estreitas e sinuosas, etc..) pode ser também um problema para deslocar-te, foi por isso que optámos alugar uma mota, deu-nos muita mobilidade, flexibilidade de estacionamento e aproveitámos para conhecer lugares da cidade que normalmente estariam fora do circuito turístico.  Alugámos na Northroad.pt que ficava ao lado do nosso hotel junto ao Palácio da Bolsa.

Oporto is an excellent city to discover walking, especially its historical center, the metro is recent but for example to go with the car is more chaotic, what makes it be beautiful (narrow and winding streets, etc …) can be also a problem to get around, that’s why we chose to rent a motorcycle, gave us a lot of mobility, parking flexibility and we took advantage to get to know places in the city that would normally be out of the tourist circuit. We rented at Northroad.pt which was close to our hotel next to the Palácio da Bolsa.

Um dos grandes ícones da cidade, é sempre um prazer revê-la cada vez que visitamos o Porto.  Obra do final do século XIX criada por Théophile Seyrig que juntamente com Gustave Eiffel construiram a Ponte de D. Maria Pia. Nesta ida á cidade conseguimos ver mais detalhes da ponte, passar a pé no tabuleiro inferior e fotografar o Porto desde o tabuleiro superior. Além disso foi a primeira vez que vi os “meninos do rio” que se arriscam para dar um mergulho desde o tabuleiro inferior no que para muitos parece uma loucura é na realidade algo que acontece há décadas.

One of the great icons of the city, it is always a pleasure to see it every time we visit Porto. Late 19th century work created by Théophile Seyrig who together with Gustave Eiffel built the D. Maria Pia Bridge. In this trip to the city we can see more details of the bridge, walk on the bottom part and photograph Oporto from the top board. Moreover, it was the first time I saw the “river boys” who take a chance diving from the bottom part of the bridge, which for many seems crazy, is actually something that has been going on for decades.

Junto ao nosso hotel e a marcar a paisagem da Praça Infante D. Henrique está este belo palácio de arquitetura maioritariamente do estilo neocássico que dizem que demorou uns quarenta anos a completar a sua construção. É a sede da Associação Comercial do Porto e para o visitar tinha que ser com guia a uma hora especifica, algo que realmente vale a pena para conhecer o interior do edificio e a sua história, onde se destacam o Pátio das Nações, a Sala Gustave Eiffel e o Salão Árabe.

Next to our hotel and enhancing the landscape of the Plaza Infante D. Henrique is this beautiful palace of architecture mostly of the Neo-classical style that took about forty years to complete its construction. It is the seat of the Commercial Association of Porto and to visit it you have to do a guided tour at a specific time, something that is really worth to know the interior of the building and its history, where the Patio of the Nations, the Gustave Room Eiffel and the Arabian Room are the main highlights.

Tenho que confessar que o maior atrativo de este Mosteiro foi mesmo as suas grandes vistas para a cidade, chegámos a fazer a visita cuja a entrada custa 2€ mas que no meu ponto de vista deveria até ser gratuita já que do interior pouco pudemos visitar por remodelações (não vimos por exemplo a igreja). A sua construção começa no século XVI e não deixa de ter o seu interesse com o seu claustro circular tal como a sua igreja.

I have to confess that the greatest attraction of this Monastery was indeed its great views of the city, we made the visit which entrance costs € 2 but in my view it should even be free, since from the inside we could not visit because they were remodeling (we did not see for example the church). Its construction began in the 16th century and is not without its interest with its circular cloister like its church.
