Junto ao nosso hotel e a marcar a paisagem da Praça Infante D. Henrique está este belo palácio de arquitetura maioritariamente do estilo neocássico que dizem que demorou uns quarenta anos a completar a sua construção. É a sede da Associação Comercial do Porto e para o visitar tinha que ser com guia a uma hora especifica, algo que realmente vale a pena para conhecer o interior do edificio e a sua história, onde se destacam o Pátio das Nações, a Sala Gustave Eiffel e o Salão Árabe.
Next to our hotel and enhancing the landscape of the Plaza Infante D. Henrique is this beautiful palace of architecture mostly of the Neo-classical style that took about forty years to complete its construction. It is the seat of the Commercial Association of Porto and to visit it you have to do a guided tour at a specific time, something that is really worth to know the interior of the building and its history, where the Patio of the Nations, the Gustave Room Eiffel and the Arabian Room are the main highlights.
E a visita começa exactamente pelo Pátio das Nações, totalmente fechado tem vários elementos que grande interesse como por exemplo a sua cúpula de vidro rodeada dos brasões representando os países com quem Portugal mantinha relações comerciais. Depois há o chão, maravilhoso trabalho de detalhe feito com mosaicos dizem que inspirados nos que se encontraram em Pompeia e que para ter melhor perspectiva há que esperar para subir a Escadaria Nobre para entrar nos bonitos corredores do segundo andar e espreitar por uma das suas varandas. No piso superior são várias as salas com grande interesse, umas mais elaboradas que outras como por exemplo a que chamam de Gustave Eiffel, pequena e com apenas uns poucos móveis quase terá sido o lugar de trabalho do famoso arquiteto que concebeu a Ponte D. Maria Pia. A Sala das Assembleias Gerais tem também algumas curiosidades, sendo a principal o facto de parecer totalmente revistada de madeira quando na realidade o que está por detrás de esse efeito é um trabalho de pintura e gesso. Por último destacaria o Salão Árabe, um grande contraste arquitetónico com tudo o que vimos até ali, foi uma das últimas construções no Palácio e pode provocar um certo síndrome de Stendhal de tão maravilhoso que é. Um excelente trabalho de detalhe para lhe conferir o seu aspecto mourisco acompanhado de uma construção com materiais de qualidade, dizem que a Alhambra em Granada serviu de inspiração. Valeu mesmo a pena a visita e é uma excelente iniciativa que edificios como estes que são de uso privado estejam abertos ao público, também entendo que é uma forma de financiamento adicional para além dos vários eventos que aqui se realizam.
And the visit begins exactly at the Pátio das Nações, which is totally enclosed and has several elements of great interest, such as its glass dome surrounded by the coats of arms representing the countries with which Portugal had commercial relations. Finally, I would like to point out the Arab Hall, a great architectural contrast with everything we have seen so far, it was one of the last buildings in the Palace and can provoke a certain Stendhal syndrome because it is so wonderful. An excellent work of detail to give it its Moorish aspect accompanied by a construction with quality materials, they say that the Alhambra in Granada was an inspiration. It was really worth the visit and it is an excellent initiative that buildings like these that are of private use are open to the public, I also understand that it is a form of extra funding in addition to the various events that take place here.
