Quando penso num Castelo penso em muralhas medievais, com torres de menagem, com uma igreja ou capela mas quando visitei o de Praga conheci uma outra dimensão onde ainda se vê uma parte da fortaleza mas com vários edificios que são exemplos de diferentes estilos arquitectónicos como o gótico, o barroco e o neo-clássico. Uma Catedral, um convento, um museu, um jardim, vários palácios fazem parte de este extraordinário complexo.
 
When I think of a Castle I usually think of medieval walls with keep towers, with a church or chapel but when I visited Prague I saw another dimension where you can still see a part of the fortress but with several buildings that are examples of different architectural styles such as gothic, baroque and neo-classical. A cathedral, a monastery, a museum, a garden, several palaces are part of this extraordinary complex.

A entrada é feita pelo Mathias Gate entrando num segundo pátio onde temos que comprar os bilhetes para entrar, há vários tipos e combinações no nosso caso como não tínhamos muito tempo para visitar todo o complexo escolhemos o B (que custa aproximadamente 8€) que dá acesso á Catedral, ao Palácio Real, á Basilica de S. Jorge, Golden Lane com a Daliborka Tower. Tem muito mais para ver e por isso é preciso de dedicar-lhe tempo, uma manhã pode não ser suficiente mas já nos ajuda a conhecer o principal. Fomos primeiro á Catedral de St. Vitus e é de visita obrigatória, o seu interior é bastante interessante, seguimos para a Golden Lane uma pequena e pitoresca cidade, visitámos ainda o Palácio Real onde se destaca o Vladislav Hall e a excelente vista que tem sobre a cidade de Praga principalmente da Ponte Carlos. Por último visitámos a Basílica de S. Jorge e já não tivémos tempo para muito mais.
 
The entrance is made by the Mathias Gate getting into a second courtyard where we have to buy tickets, there are various types and combinations in our case as we did not have much time to visit the entire complex chose the B (which costs around € 8) giving access to the Cathedral, the Royal Palace, the Basilica of St. George, Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower. Has much more to see and so it takes to time, one morning may not be enough but already helps to know the main attractions. We went first to the St. Vitus Cathedral and it is a must see, its interior is very interesting, we went to the Golden Lane a small picturesque town, then visited the Royal Palace which highlights are the Vladislav Hall and the great views it has on the city of Prague specially of the Charles Bridge. Finally we visited the Basilica of St. George and no longer had time for much else.

Malá Strana é um dos bairros mais bonitos de Praga e pela sua proximidade ao Castelo e á Ponte Carlos, um dos mais turísticos e animados. O seu nome traduzido em inglês seria Lesser Town ou Cidade Inferior por estar aos pés da colina do Castelo e para visitá-lo temos que passar por duas das suas famosas ruas, a Nerudova e a Mostecká cujos edificios de estilo barroco deixaram-me impressionada.
 
Malá Strana is one of the most beautiful districts of Prague and its immediate proximity to the Castle and Charles Bridge makes it, one of the most touristic and animated. It’s name translated into English would be Lesser Town or Lower City because it’s at the foot of the Castle Hill and to visit it we have to go through two of it’s famous streets, Nerudova and Mostecká whose baroque buildings left me impressed.

Grande parte dos edificios do bairro foram construídos no século XVII e XVIII, um dos mais emblemáticos é o da Igreja de S. Nicolas conhecida pelos frescos que decoram o seu interior entre eles o da cúpula criados por Franz Palko. Construída na Praça de Malostranské (Malostranské náměstí náměstí) partilha protagonismo com a coluna da Santíssima Trindade.
Outra das curiosidades do bairro é o Museu de Gingerbread cujo o nome engana já que é uma loja totalmente dedicada a bolachinhas de gengibre de todas as formas e feitios. Vale mesmo um passeio por aqui e só tive pena de não ter tido mais tempo para explorar mais ruas do bairro.
 
Much of the buildings in the neighborhood were built in the seventeenth and eighteenth century, one of the most emblematic is the St. Nicholas Church known for the frescoes decorating the interior including the one on the  dome created by Franz Palko. Built in the Malostranské Square (Malostranské náměstí) it shares the spotlight with the column of the Holy Trinity.
Another of the curiosities of the neighborhood is the Gingerbread Museum whose name may be deceiving as it is a store dedicated entirely to gingerbread cookies of all shapes and sizes. It’s really worth a walk around and just felt sorry that I didn’t had more time to explore the neighborhood streets.

Depois do nosso almoço no Vojanuv Dvur (post aqui) continuámos a explorar a cidade sem grande plano, sabíamos que o passeio estava a chegar ao fim quando entrámos neste parque, o Vojanovy Sady. Parecia um mundo paralelo, depois da agitação de atravessar a Ponte Carlos e de visitar o Castelo sempre com muita gente á volta chegar aqui e encontrar um bonito e tranquilo jardim foi o melhor para recarregar baterias.
 
After our lunch at Vojanuv Dvur (post here) we continued to explore the city without great plans, we knew that our walk was coming to an end when we entered this park, Vojanovy Sady. It looked like a parallel world, after the crowd crossing the Charles Bridge and the visit to the Castle always  with so many people around it to get here and find a beautiful, quiet garden was the best thing to recharge batteries.

Em pleno bairro Malá Strana, não é muito grande e não é dos mais conhecidos, dizem que é um dos favoritos dos locais exactamente por isso porque podem aproveitar este espaço para fugir ás multidões de turistas que como nós invadem esta zona de Praga rica em história e arquitetura. Fazia parte de um convento e ao longo do tempo foi-se transformando neste belo parque de estilo Inglês com extensos relvados, árvores, bancos e até pavões.
 
Right in the neighborhood of Malá Strana, is not very big and is not the most popular, they say it is a locals favorite exactly why because they can take this opportunity to escape the crowds of tourists like us that invade this part of Prague rich in history and architecture. It was part of a convent and over time has been transformed in this beautiful English-style park with lawns, trees, benches and even peacocks.

Dizem ser a igreja mais antiga da zona do Castelo de Praga e a segunda mais antiga da cidade, apesar da sua fachada barroca o seu interior é de estilo românico. Foi construída no século X e fundada por Vratislav I cujo túmulo feito em madeira podemos ver antes de subir ás capelas no segundo patamar.
 
Said to be the oldest church in the area of the Prague Castle and the second oldest in the city, despite its baroque facade the interior is Romanesque. It was built in the X century and founded by Vratislav whose tomb is made ​​of Wood that we see before going up to the chapels on the second level. 

 

Ao subir as escadas podemos ver a Capela de St. Ludmila, mãe de Vratislav que foi construída no século XIV com um estilo gótico. No interior dessa capela está o túmulo com os seus restos mortais e a história de Ludmila fez dela uma mártir, foi assassinada pela sua nora Drahomira por achar que tinha mais influência sobre Wenceslau (seu neto) que a própria mãe. Podemos ver no topo da capela algumas pinturas do Renascimento onde numa delas estaria representada a santa.
Por baixo está uma cripta medieval do século XII onde podemos ver uma escultura de bronze de Brigita representando o corpo de uma jovem em decomposição como um símbolo da fragilidade humana.
Depois da grandiosidade da Catedral de S. Vitus parece que a basilica é um monumento mais pobre, na realidade é igual de rico em história e talvez mais emblemático ao visitar.
 
When you climb the stairs you can see the Chapel of St. Ludmila, the mother of Vratislav which was built in the fourteenth century with a Gothic style. Inside this chapel is the tomb with her remains and the story of Ludmila made ​​her a martyr, she was murdered by her daughter in-law Drahomira who thought she had more influence on Wenceslas (her grandson) that his own mother. We can see the top of the chapel some paintings of the Renaissance era where in one of them the saint was represented.
Beneath there is a medieval crypt twelfth century where we can see a bronze sculpture of Brigita representing the body of a Young woman decaying as a symbol of human frailty.
After the grandeur of the Cathedral of St. Vitus seems that the basilica is a monument poorest but actually equals it in rich history and perhaps is the most emblematic visit.

PILSNER URQUELL GALERIE – PRAGA, REP. CHECA

Depois do almoço e enquanto caminhávamos em direcção á Ponte Carlos encontrámos o Galerie Experience shop da marca de cerveja checa, Pilsner Urquell. Decidimos entrar depois de ver na montra as decoradas canecas de cerveja que lembravam as alemãs.
Até aqui em quase todos os sitios onde bebemos cerveja foi sempre desta marca que está no activo desde 1842.
After lunch and as we walked towards Charles Bridge we found the Galerie Experience shop of the Czech beer brand, Pilsner Urquell. We decided to go in after seeing the storefront the decorated beer mugs that resembled German ones.
Until now in almost all the places where we drank beer it was always this brand that is in active since 1842.

Eurostars Thalia Hotel – Praga, República Checa

Depois de uma excelente experiência no Intercontinental parecia impossível que o Eurostars fosse melhor, são ambos de cinco estrelas mas o outro era pela maneira tradicional como oferece os seus serviços e o Thalia apesar de estar num edificio antigo tem quartos com uma decoração moderna sem abdicar do conforto. Fica na Rua Narodní, não parece tão central como o outro mas estávamos a poucos minutos a pé da Ponte Carlos e perto do Teatro Nacional.
After a great experience at the Intercontinental seemed impossible that the Eurostars was better, they are both five stars but the other had a more traditional way to offer their services and Thalia despite being in an old building had rooms with a modern décor without sacrificing comfort. It’s on Narodni Street, does not seem as central as the other but we were a few minutes walk from Charles Bridge and near the National Theatre.

ENCERRADO :: CLOSED

O School foi o último restaurante da nossa estadia em Praga, foi recomendado pelos recepcionistas do nosso hotel e não ficava muito longe. Queríamos comer bem sem pagar muito além do normal algo que se estava a revelar difícil em Praga, nunca comemos mal mas pagámos sempre acima do que a comida merecia.

Este revelou ser uma boa opção tinha um menú de 35€ (895 coroas) de três pratos, sorbet e sobremesa.

The School was the last restaurant of our stay in Prague, it was recommended by the receptionists at our hotel and it was not far. We wanted to eat well without paying beyond the normal something that was proving difficult in Prague, we never ate badly but we always paid above what the food deserved.
This proved to be a good option had a menu of 35 € (895 crowns) of three dishes, sorbet and dessert.

Três raparigas a passear por Praga, uma delas passou mal de manhã e as outras duas foram mães há pouco tempo (uma de gémeos e a outra sou eu), passam por uma montra que diz: “Thai Massage : from 9,99€ one hour” e que fazem? Opção a) Ficam indiferentes ao assunto porque massagens tailandesas só mesmo na Tailândia. Opção b) Ficam pasmadas a olhar para o preço e entram para fazer a massagem dos dez euros que é aos pés. Opção c) Ficam histéricas com a ideia de uma boa massagem depois de carregar com o “peso” das responsabilidades e decidem que a de dez euros não chega, querem mais.
 
Three girls walking around Prague, one of them fell ill in the morning and the other two had given months recently (one of twins and the other was me), they pass by a window that says “Thai Massage: from € 9.99 one hour “and what do they do? Option a) are indifferent to the matter because Thai massages only in Thailand. Option b) are astounded looking at the price go in and do the massage of ten euros which is a foot rub. Era fácil, foi a opção C. Entrámos entusiasmadas para uma relaxante (pensávamos nós) massagem tailandesa. E se há malta que sabe vender massagem são eles porque toda a gente sabe que não são das mais suaves e relaxantes, que são duras e ás vezes desconfortáveis mas ainda assim todos nos atiramos de cabeça sempre com a esperança de que nesse dia vai ser diferente. E em Praga, não foi. Por outro lado foi uma das experiências mais divertidas que já tive, três raparigas numa sala a receber massagem “fast food” e em alguns momentos “hard core”, esticaram-me os braços de maneiras que não acreditava que fosse possível, utilizaram várias partes do corpo para “massacrar” o meu e quando me fizeram cócegas achei pelas caras delas que me iam meter num colete de forças e o que nos rimos não tem preço.
No final sim saímos relaxadas e se algum dia tiver que pensar num negócio talvez este seja o ideal, porque em Praga era uma mina de ouro, estava sempre cheio.
 
It was easy, option C. We went enthusiastic for a relaxing (or so we thought) Thai massage. And the thai people real know how to sell a massage because everyone knows that they are not the most soothing and relaxing, they are hard and sometimes uncomfortable but still we all go in always with the hope on that day it will be different . And in Prague, it was not. On the other hand it was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had, three girls in a room receiving “fast food“ massage and at times a bit “hard core“, they stretched my arms in ways I did not think it was possible, using various parts of their body to the “massacre“ and when they tickled me I tought judging by their faces they wanted to put me in a straitjacket and what we laugh was priceless.
In the end we left relaxed and yes if I ever have to think about a business perhaps this is ideal because in Prague it was a gold mine, was always full.

Foi o primeiro monumento que fomos visitar dentro do complexo do Castelo de Praga, a Catedral de St. Vitus (ou Vito) era um dos lugares que não queríamos deixar de visitar na cidade.

Apesar do seu exterior de estilo gótico, esta Catedral só ficou completa no século XX antes da sua consagração a 1929, quase seiscentos anos depois da primeira pedra da sua construção e de ter passado por outros estilos arquitectónicos, por um incêndio até ao que vemos hoje.

It was the first monument that we visited within the complex of the Prague Castle, the Cathedral of St. Vitus (or Vito) was one of the places we could not miss while visiting the city.
Despite its Gothic style exterior, this cathedral was completed only in the twentieth century before his consecration to 1929, almost six hundred years after the first stone of its construction and having passed by other architectural styles, survived a fire until what we see today.

O nosso primeiro hotel em Praga ficava nesta rua junto á Ponte Cechuv e foi nela que andámos para chegar até á Praça da Cidade Velha. Fica em pleno Josefov e é considerada uma das ruas mais caras de toda a cidade talvez pela sua concentração de lojas com marcas de luxo como Dior, Hermés, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Gucci, Mont Blanc, entre tantas outras.
 
Our first hotel in Prague was in this street near the bridge Cechuv and it was that we went to get until the Old Town Square. Josefov is in full and is considered one of the most expensive streets of any city may by its concentration of shops with luxury brands such as Dior, Hermes, Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Gucci, Mont Blanc, among many others.

Mas para mim o que mais gostei nesta rua foram os seus elegantes edificios, quase todos construídos no inicio do século XX e com inspiração Art Déco. Não digo que as montras não sejam interessantes mas a decoração destes edificios tem pormenores que não se devem deixar escapar, gostei em particular das varandas com esculturas masculinas em vez dos tradicionais pilares.
Além de lojas por aqui estão também alguns dos restaurantes mais conhecidos (e caros) da cidade e o Black Image Theatre (Website: http://www.imagetheatre.cz/en/) que funciona com um jogo de luzes coloridas e fundos negros o que dá lugar a criativas obras de teatro. Recomendo ver o site principalmente a galería, uma pena não ter ido com mais tempo porque tentaría não perder um espectáculo aqui.
 
But for me what I liked most in this street was its elegant buildings, almost all built in the early twentieth century and inspired by Art Deco. I do not say that the shops windows are not interesting but the decor of these buildings have details that you shouldn’t miss,I especially liked the balconies with sculptures of men instead of the traditional pillars.
Besides the shops in this Street there are also some of the most popular restaurants (and expensive) city and the Black Image Theatre (Website: http://www.imagetheatre.cz/en/) that works with a set of colored lights and the black backgrounds which gives a creative theater. I recommend viewing the site mainly gallery, a pity I didn’t had more time because I would have tried not to miss a show here.
