O Insólito é verdadeiramente…insólito talvez pela sua decoração de uma estranha maneira consegue uma excelente combinação de cores, de azulejos e até de texturas. Localizado no último andar de um edificio paredes meias com o The Independente e pertence tudo ao mesmo, dizem que o seu ponto forte é a esplanada mas como fui para um jantar com a empresa estava fechada porque fomos ainda no Inverno. Foi uma pena porque deu para perceber que tem uma das melhores vistas sobre a cidade a mesma do Miradouro de S. Pedro de Alcântara mas com uma vantagem na altura.
The Insólito (Unusual) is truly unusual … maybe because it is decorated in a weird way achieving a great combination of colors, tiles and even textures. Located on the top floor of a building next door to the The Independent and belongs to it, some say its strong point is the terrace but as I went to dinner with the company it was closed because we were still in winter. It was a shame because I could see that it has one of the best views of the city the same as the S. Pedro de Alcantara belvedere but with a height advantage.

Solar do Vinho do Porto – Lisboa, Portugal

O primeiro Solar do Vinho do Porto foi o da cidade que lhe dá o nome, lembro-me da fantástica vista que tinha para o Douro e recebi com alguma tristeza a noticia de que tinha fechado (em 2012) sendo o de Lisboa o único que está em funcionamento. São os eventos e o turismo que mantêm este vivo oferecendo uma grande variedade de marcas algumas emblemáticas. Pertence ao Instituto dos Vinhos do Porto principal embaixador de esta bebida famosa no mundo inteiro.
The first Solar do Vinho do Porto was of the city that gives it its name, I remember the fantastic view that it had of the Douro river and received with some sadness the news that it had closed (in 2012) and Lisbon has the only one is in operation. The events and tourism keep this one living offering a wide variety of brands some emblematic. It belongs to the Institute of Vinhos do Porto ambassador of this famous drink worldwide.

Eu vivi em Lisboa a época dourada das Docas de Santo Amaro agora longe da cidade não sei se continua mas a verdade é que quase todos os espanhois que iam comigo na viagem queriam passar por aqui. Já nem me lembrava de alguns dos seus restaurantes, um dos favoritos do grupo era o Doca Peixe com a sua montra de peixe fresco e marisco que convida para além da sua esplanada com vista para o Tejo e para a Ponte.

I lived in Lisbon the golden age of the Santo Amaro docks now far from the city I do not know if it continues but the truth is that almost all the Spaniards who traveled with me on this trip wanted to go there. I did not even remembered of some of its restaurants, a favorite of the group was the Doca Peixe (Fish dock) with its showcase of fresh fish and seafood inviting beyond its terrace overlooking the Tagus and Bridge.

Devo admitir que sou daquelas pessoas que gosta de entrar nos hoteis mesmo não estando hospedada e principalmente deste tipo de luxo ou icónicos só para ver como são por dentro, o Ritz sempre despertou essa curiosidade mas nesta ocasião fiquei hospedada para uma reunião da empresa. É um hotel que conta com cinco estrelas construído no final da década de 60 em cujo projecto esteve envolvida a familia Espirito Santo e que agora pertence á cadeia dos Four Seasons.
 
I must admit I am one of those people who likes to get in hotels even if I’m not staying there and especially this iconic luxury or just to see how they are inside, the Ritz has always I got me curious but on this occasion I was staying for a company meeting. It is a hotel that has five stars built in the late 60 in the draft of which was involved the family Espirito Santo and now belongs to the chain of Four Seasons.

São várias as obras de artistas plásticos nacionais que encontramos no seu interior, estão espalhadas pelas zonas sociais do hotel e também no exterior onde encontramos um pequeno jardim com algumas esculturas. Tem uma curiosidade que é a sua App para conhecer melhor essas obras de arte. Uma das mais valias do hotel é também a sua vista sobre a cidade principalmente para a o Marquês de Pombal, podemos apreciá-la desde o bar do hotel ou das amplas varandas dos quartos. E falando em quartos tenho que dizer que fiquei um pouco decepcionada com o meu, achei-o bastante grande mas muito antiquado e acho que o Ritz Four Seasons pede um pouco de actualização no que diz respeito á decoração dos quartos. Outro dos pontos fortes é sem dúvida o pequeno-almoço, abundante, variado e acima de tudo com bastante qualidade.
O Ritz conta ainda com um SPA que não cheguei a visitar e que é de acesso livre para os seus hóspedes. Foi uma agradável estadia aqui que não creio que posso repetir pelo preço dos quartos mas talvez posso voltar para conhecer por exemplo o seu Sushi Bar.

There are several works by national artists we found inside, scattered in the social areas of the hotel and outside we can find a small garden with some sculptures. It has a curiosity there is an App to learn more about these works of art. One of the hotel’s strengths is also its view of the city mainly to the Marquis of Pombal, we can enjoy it from the hotel bar or the large balconies of the rooms. And speaking of the bedrooms I have to say I was a little disappointed with mine, I found it quite large but very dated and I think the Ritz Four Seasons needs a little update in what concerns the decoration of the rooms. Another strong point is undoubtedly the breakfast plentiful, varied and above all with enough quality.The Ritz also has a spa that I did not get to visit and which is freely accessible for its guests. It was a pleasant stay here that I do not think I can repeat the price of the rooms but maybe I can go back to go for example to its Sushi Bar.

Miradouro de Santa Catarina – Lisboa, Portugal

A melhor maneira de apreciar Lisboa é através dos seus miradouros. Desde sempre foram ponto de encontro e zonas de lazer, o de Santa Catarina não foge á regra com uma excelente vista para o rio Tejo e para a Ponte 25 de Abril que se torna épica quando o sol se põe, melhor parte é estar sentado no Noobai Café para assisti-lo mas há outras alternativas com o pequeno jardim onde nos podemos sentar (na altura que fomos estava fechado para rehabilitar o relvado).
The best way to enjoy Lisbon is through its viewpoints. They have always been a meeting point and recreational areas, the Santa Catarina is no exception to the rule with a great view of the Tagus river and the 25 de Abril bridge that becomes epic when the sun goes down, the best part is sitting in Noobai Café to watch it but there are other alternatives like the small garden where we can sit (at the time we went was closed to rehabilitate the lawn).

NOTA: Este restaurante encerrou.
Muito perto do (agora na moda) Mercado da Ribeira, o Substância abriu o ano passado somando á oferta que está a transformar esta zona numa das mais animadas da cidade. Tinha alguma curiosidade de conhecer este restaurante e fomos esta Páscoa. O primeiro que me chamou a atenção foi a decoração, achei que era simples e acolhedora mas com a sua própria identidade, a outra coisa que gostei foi as pequenas janelas que dão para a cozinha que te ajudam a dar conta da azáfama que supõe preparar a carta do Substância que segue uma linha de renovação da gastronomia tradicional portuguesa.
Very close to the (now in fashion) Mercado da Ribeira, the Substance opened last year adding to the offer that is transforming this area in one of the liveliest of the city. I was very curious about this restaurant and we were there this Easter. The first thing that caught my attention was the decor, I thought it was simple and cozy but with its own identity, the other thing I liked was the small windows overlooking the kitchen that help you cope with the hustle and bustle that is supposed to prepare menu from Substância following a renovation of traditional Portuguese cuisine.

Ao sentar vem o couvert com uma cesta de pão, azeite com vinagre balsâmico, manteiga de chouriço e começámos bem. A cozinha está a cargo do Chef Lobão (ex-concorrente do Masterchef) e da Chef Filipa (ex-Matateu) talvez por isso o pica pau é sem dúvida um dos pratos favoritos, não há maneira de o fazer parecer “bonito” para a foto mas o que é importa é o sabor e aqui o Substância acerta. Carne tenra e saborosa que têm um acompanhamento á altura: chips de batata-doce. Seguiram-se os pratos principais, eu pedi o Mil folhas de bacalhau e o marido um Tornedó Charolês com batata frita rústica. No meu caso achei que era um prato conseguido mas estava com tantas saudades de comer lascas de bacalhau que não fiquei fã, a receita lembra-me o bacalhau espiritual do qual sempre fujo. Mea maxima culpa porque deveria ter perguntado como seria.
A estrela da noite foi o Tornedó, sugestão da empregada (e bendita seja) porque era um prato que parece simples mas que tinham muita “chispa” como dizem os espanhóis, a carne estava tenra e veio acompanhada de umas batatas perfeitas.
When sitting comes the “couvert” with a basket of bread, olive oil with balsamic vinegar, chorizo ​​butter and we started well. Chef Lobao (former competitor Masterchef) and Chef Filipa (former Matateu) are in charge of the kitchen so maybe the “pica pau” (slices of beef) is undoubtedly one of the favorite dishes, there is no way to make it seem “cute” for the photo but what is important is the flavour and here the Substância hits the mark. Meat tender and tasty that have a side order at its height: sweet potato chips. This was followed by the main course, I ordered the cod “Mil Folhas” and my husband a Charolais Tournedos with rustic fries. In my case I thought it was an accomplished dish but I missed eating cod chips so much that I was not a fan, the recipe reminds me of the spiritual cod which I always run away from. “Mea máxima” fault because I should have asked how it would be.The star of the evening was the Tournedos, waiter’s suggestion (and blessed) because it was a dish that looks simple but had a lot of “spark” as the Spanish say, the meat was tender and was accompanied by the perfect potatoes.

Decidimos pedir uma sobremesa para partilhar, escolhemos o Pão de Ló de Ovar com geleia de romã e pipocas de caramelo, não sei se veio mesmo de Ovar mas tinha pouco molho de ovos comparado com o habitual tornando a sobremesa um pouco mais seca. Foi uma excelente experiência no Substância e depois de umas semanas a “provar” alguns dos restaurantes que estão da moda na cidade como o Cantinho do Avillez ou o Insólito creio que este estaria na  mesma lista.
We decided to order a dessert to share, choose the sponge cake from Ovar with pomegranate jelly and caramel popcorn, I do not know if it really came from Ovar but had it had less egg cream compared to the usual one making dessert a little drier. It was a great experience in Substância and after a few weeks of“tasting” some of the more fashionable restaurants in the city as the Cantinho de Avillez or Insólito I believe this would be in the same list.

Tenho tantas memórias da Feira da Ladra de quando era miúda e íamos procurar discos em segunda mão que revisitar este espaço chegou a significar mais do que esperava. Este mercado ao ar livre instalado no Campo de Santa Clara vende velharias, objectos em segunda-mão, artesanato mas tem também as típicas bancadas de feira normal que vendem roupa entre outros artigos. Todas as terças e Sábados da parte da manhã podemos encontrar aqui colecionadores ou curiosos em busca de pechinchas ou peças para a sua coleção.
I have so many memories of the Feira da Ladra – flea market when I was a kid and we would look for second-hand vynil discs to revisit this space has come to mean more than expected. This outdoor market installed on the Campo de Santa Clara sells junk, second-hand objects, handicrafts but also has the typical standard fair stalls selling clothes and other items. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning we can find here collectors or curious in search of bargains or pieces for their collection.

PRAÇA DA FIGUEIRA – LISBOA, PORTUGAL

A praça da Figueira sempre me pareceu uma das mais decadentes da cidade, ainda hoje podemos ver algum edificio deteriorado algo que no meu ponto de vista não se justifica para a localização que tem no entanto vejo-a já com outros olhos, muitos foram recuperados e têm uma cara mais limpa. Antes do celébre Terramoto esteve aqui um Hospital, depois instalou-se um mercado que deixou de funcionar em 1941 mas ficou o Mercado da Praça da Figueira que tenta recriar o antigo que aqui existiu.
 
The square Figueira always seemed one of the most decadent city, we can still see some deteriorated building something that in my view there is no justification because of it’s location however I already see it with different eyes, many were recovered and have a cleaner face. Before the famous earthquake there was here one hospital, then settled a market that ended in 1941 but the Mercado da Praça da Figueira remains trying to recreate the one that existed here years ago.

Os seus edificios uniformes com os seus candeeiros caracteristicos são uma boa forma de apreciar a arquitetura lisboeta e ao centro encontramos uma estátua equestre do Rei D. João I criada pelo o escultor Leopoldo de Almeida, colocada aqui em 1971. D. João I foi o primeiro rei depois da dinastia dos Felipes de Espanha, foi ele com ajuda de vários nobres nacionais que recuperou a soberanía portuguesa e foi também o pai da geração dos Descobrimentos. Está também aqui a famosa Confeitaria Nacional, uma das mais elegantes pastelarias de Lisboa fundada em 1829 por Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro para além de outras lojas que ainda hoje mantém o seu traçado tradicional.
 
Its uniform buildings with their characteristic lamps are a good way to enjoy the Lisbon arquitecture and in the center there is an equestrian statue of King John I created by the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, placed here in 1971. John I was the first king after the dynasty of Felipes of Spain, he was with the help of several national nobles who recovered the Portuguese sovereignty and was also the father of the generation of the Discoveries. The famous National Confectionery is also located here, one of the most elegant pastries Lisbon founded in 1829 by Baltazar Roiz Castanheiro apart from other shops that still retain its traditional route.

Cantinho do Avillez – Lisboa, Portugal

Conseguimos na Páscoa ir a outro dos restaurantes do José Avillez, o seu Cantinho. Fica no Chiado ao lado da sua Pizzeria e muito perto do Belcanto, digamos que com poucos passos o Chef Avillez pode vigiar os seus restaurantes. É sempre conveniente reservar mesmo sendo só duas pessoas, nós por exemplo só conseguimos mesa para as 22h30, nenhum problema pelo o nosso horário espanhol.
Gostei muito do ambiente do restaurante, descontraído e acolhedor, simples e com alguns detalhes tradicionais, gostei de estar sentada e ver a bancada de preparação das sobremesas.
We were able to go this Easter to another restaurant of José Avillez, his Cantinho (= Little Corner). Is in the Chiado next to his Pizzeria and very close to Belcanto, let’s say that with few steps Chef Avillez can watch all his restaurants. It is always convenient to book even if it is just for two people, for example we only got a table for 22.30, no problem because of our Spanish time.
I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, relaxed and friendly, simple and with some traditional details, enjoyed sitting down and watch the preparation of desserts counter.

Park – Lisboa, Portugal

Por todo lado se fala do Park, ou é algum espanhol que te conta sobre o bar com uma vista incrível que fica dentro de um parque de estacionamento, ou o New York Times que o publica na sua guia atualizada de 36 horas em Lisboa ou por exemplo a revista Traveller que também coloca este lugar no roteiro. Este animado espaço no último andar de um parque no Bairro Alto divide-se em três espaços diferente com dois bares, sendo a zona mais concorrida a que tem vista para a Ponte 25 de Abril e o ideal é esperar pelo pôr-do-sol.
Everywhere is speaking about the park, either is a spanish friend who tells you about the bar with an incredible view which is in a parking lot, or the New York Times publishes in its updated guide of 36 hours in Lisbon or  for example the Traveller magazine that also puts this place on the route. This lively place on the last floor of a  car park in Bairro Alto is divided into three different spaces with two bars, the most crowded area that overlooks the 25th of April Bridge and it’s ideal to wait for the setting of the sun.
