Luxury shopping make sure that the Galleries remains one of the most priviledged places in the city for shopping, a pity I do not have a wallet to keep up with it but it is true that a simple walk through them makes me travel back in time and imagine that I am in the late nineteenth century sitting on the terrace of the Café Biffi drinking a tea after an afternoon of shopping.
It was inaugurated in 1867 but the work was not complete, only ten years later ended with the tragic death of its creator Giuseppe Mengoni that fell from the top of the triumphal arch.

Quickly became a place of socializing for the locals, a meeting place for your social life with shops and cafes. Built in the shape of a cross at the center it has a dome crystal, we can get from the Piazza del Duomo to the della Scala without catching a raindrop and still enjoy some window shopping.
It was inspired by galleries of Paris that emerged in the French town around the same time but none with the grandeur of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which saw the king himself cast the first stone and they still serve as inspiration for other similar buildings.
On the floor we can see the coats of other major Italian city like Rome for example, legend has it that in Milan one there is a bull figure that one should spin around for luck.
