Grosse Cloche – Bordéus, França

Seguíamos o nosso caminho pela Cours Victor Hugo quando ao olhar para a Rua de Saint-James vimos esta porta, uma das duas que ainda existem na cidade, a outra é a Porta Cailhau. Esta torre relógio pertencia ao edificio que seria a câmara municipal da cidade na época medieval. A sua construção original data do século XV mas o relógio que vemos por baixo do sino é do século XVIII.

We were walking through the Cours Victor Hugo when looking at the Saint-James Street we saw this door, one of two that still exist in the city, the other is the door Cailhau. This clock tower belonged to the building that would be the city hall in medieval times. Its original construction date of the fifteenth century but the clock that we see beneath the bell is from the eighteenth century.

Café Via Luna- Bordéus, França

Chegámos a Bordéus já muito perto da hora do almoço, fome não nos faltava e estacionámos o carro na Place Chapeu Rouge. Ali perto estava o Café Via Luna e nem procurámos nada mais, nem olhámos para as recomendações dos guias.
Uma das coisas que nos chamou a atenção foi a sua esplanada com vista para o rio Garona, sentámo-nos e vimos que tinham um menú do dia que custava menos de 10€ e outros pratos a 6€.
 
We arrived in Bordeaux already very close to lunchtime, we were starving and parked the car in place Chapeu Rouge. Nearby was the Café Via Luna and we didn’t look no further nor we looked at the recommendations of the guides.
One of the things that caught our attention was its terrace overlooking the Garonne river, we sat down and saw that they had a menu of the day which cost less than 10 € and other dishes at 6 €.

Monumento dos Girondinos – Bordéus, França

Localizado na Praça de Quinconces, o monumento em memória dos girondinos é composto por uma coluna com uma escultura em bronze e duas grandes fontes aos seus pés. Os Girondinos eram um grupo político da época da Revolução Francesa e objectivo deste monumento é prestar homenagem aos políticos que foram perseguidos e executados durante a época do Reino do Terror.

Located in the Plaza de Quinconces, the monument in memory of the Girondins consists of a column with a bronze sculpture and two large fountains at its feet. The Girondins were a political group of the era of the French Revolution and purpose of this monument is to honor the politicians who were persecuted and executed during the time of the Reign of Terror.

Porte Cailhau – Bordéus, Espanha

Saindo da Place de la Bourse seguimos pela rua de Richeliu até que nos chamou a atenção a Porta Cailhau. A visão era tremenda parecia que estávamos outra vez em Carcassone, como se fosse uma amostra. Foi construído como um arco triunfal em honra da vitória do rei Carlos III na batalha de Fornovo em Itália mas fazia parte da estrutura defensiva que protegia a cidade de Bordéus no século XV. Tem 35 metros de altura e é uma excelente obra do Renascimento.

Leaving the Place de la Bourse followed by street Richeliu something caught our attention the door Cailhau. The view was tremendous looked like we were again in Carcassone, like a sample. It was built as a triumphal arch in honor of King Carlos III victory at the Battle of Fornovo in Italy but was part of the defensive structure that protected the city of Bordeaux in the fifteenth century. It is 35 meters high and is a great Renaissance work.

Catedral Sainte-André – Bordéus, França

Classificada como Património Mundial pela UNESCO. A sua construção mais antiga data do século XI mas ao longo de vários anos foi sendo modificada e a fachada principal tem um estilo gótico. Entrando na catedral (cuja entrada é gratuita) é impossível não sentir o espanto ao ver a dimensão da nave e todos os seus 124 metros de comprimento. a segunda coisa que notamos é a quantidade de luz tornando-a ainda mais agradável.
Classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Its oldest construction dates back to the eleventh century but over several years has been modified and the main facade has a gothic style. Entering the cathedral (whose entrance is free) it is impossible not to feel the amazement at seeing the size of the ship and all its 124 meters long. the second thing we notice is the amount of light making it even more enjoyable.

Place de la Comedie – Bordéus, França

São dois os edificios que tornam esta praça uma das mais agradáveis de Bordéus, o Grand Théâtre e o Grand Hotel. Majestosos exemplos de arquitectura clássica do final do século XVIII e que estão em excelente estado de conservação. Ambos partilharam o mesmo arquitecto: Victor Louis, o mesmo que desenhou as galerias do Palais-Royal em Paris. O Grand Hotel ainda hoje funciona como Regent, é um dos mais luxuosos da cidade e é também um SPA. Um dos seus mais ilustres hóspedes foi Victor Hugo.

There are two buildings that make this square one of the nicest of Bordeaux, the Grand Theatre and the Grand Hotel. Majestic examples of classical architecture from the late eighteenth century and are in excellent condition. Both shared the same architect Victor Louis, the same who designed the galleries of the Palais-Royal in Paris. The Grand Hotel still acts as Regent, is one of the most luxurious of the city and is also a SPA. One of its most illustrious guests was Victor Hugo.

GELATARIA AMORINO – BORDÉUS, FRANÇA

Percorrendo as ruas do centro de Bordéus, sentíamos já a fome e o calor a apertar, estávamos a descer uma rua pedestre quando encontramos uma gelataria Amorino.
Duas coisas chamaram logo a atenção, estava cheia (mas também era pequena) e depois um cartaz que promocionava o seu “Corneto” (e não é o da Olá garanto) em que a parte do gelado parecia uma flor. Não resistimos e entrámos.
 
Walking along the streets of downtown Bordeaux, we were feeling hungry and heat was killing us, we were down a pedestrian street when we found an ice cream parlor named Amorino.
Two things drew immediate attention, it was full (but it was also small) and then a poster promoted their “Corneto” (and I guarantee it wasn’t from Olá) in which part of the ice looked like a flower. We could not resist and we entered.

Não os achei particularmente caros e em apresentação eram talvez dos melhores que alguma vez vi. Pedimos o tal corneto e podemos escolher o número de sabores que queremos, eu escolhi três, achei o mais razoável senão depois misturam-se demasiado e acabamos por não saborear nenhum como deveríamos.
Escolhi morango, caramelo e banana, os sabores são bons e eu diria até diferentes mesmo os que parecem comuns, são cremosos. Para além disso são sem corantes e aromas artificiais (parece que estou a fazer publicidade). São gelados italianos (idealizados por dois italianos que vivem em Paris) nas ruas de Bordéus e nós gostámos.
 
I did not found them particularly expensive and the presentation was perhaps the best I’ve ever seen. We ordered the Corneto and we can choose the number of flavors we want, I chose three, I found the most reasonable because then they would blend too much and ended up not taste any like we should.
I chose strawberry, caramel and banana flavors that were good and I would even say even the ones that seem common, are creamy. Furthermore they don’t have artificial colorings and flavorings (I seem to be doing some advertising). These are italian icecreams (devised by two Italians who live in Paris) in the streets of Bordeaux and we liked them.

RUE DES REMPARTS – BORDÉUS, FRANÇA

Tínhamos saído da Praça Pey-Berland e entrámos nesta Rue des Remparts completamente por acaso. O deixar-te levar sem mapa tem destas coisas, entramos numa rua de comércio do que não encontras na Sainte-Catherine, aqui não há grandes marcas de franchising com as suas grandes vitrines, aqui encontramos espaços pequenos, originais e acolhedores.

We had left the Pey-Berland Square and we have entered this Rue des Remparts completely by chance. Strolling away with no map has these things, we enter a shopping street that you will not find in Sainte-Catherine, here there are no major franchise brands with its large windows, here we find small, unique and cozy spaces.

 
Estava tão entusiasmada com a rua que tirei muitas fotos mais que na Sainte-Catherine, as montras pareciam estar num concurso para ver quem ganhava a melhor, sem serem espectaculares convidavam a entrar.  A “sorte” é que tínhamos alguma pressa para ver mais coisas em Bordéus e não perdemos a cabeça a fazer compras.
A oferta é variada, desde as lojas de roupa e bijuteria, passando por pequenas galerias de arte, cafés, restaurantes, um salão de chá e uma floristas. Todas com aquele charme do comércio antiga sem perder o contacto com o mundo moderno. Também os cafés com as suas pequenas esplanadas convidam a sentar e aproveitar o ambiente da rua, pena que tínhamos tão pouco tempo na cidade, teríamos tentado experimentar os vários que ali existem.
Uma das lojas mais apelativas era a M Le Macaron, aliás fotografar a sua fachada e montra sem gente foi tarefa muito complicada, todos que ali passavam tinham que parar e ficavam uns bons minutos a apreciar a árvore de macarons.
Was so enthusiastic about the street I took many more photos than in Sainte-Catherine, the windows seemed to be in a contest to see who won the best, without being spectacular they invited to enter. Our “luck” is that we had any hurry to see more things in Bordeaux and do not lose my head shopping.The offer is varied, from clothing stores and jewelry, through small art galleries, cafes, restaurants, a tea room and a florist. All with that charm of the old trade without losing touch with the modern world. Also cafes with its small terraces invite you to sit and enjoy the street environment, shame that we had so little time in the city, we would have tried to experience the many that exist there.One of the most appealing shops was the M Le Macaron, indeed to shoot its facade and window without people was very complicated task, all that went there had to stop and were a good few minutes to enjoy the macarons tree.

Torre e Praça Pey-Berland em Bordéus, França

É uma das principais praças da cidade de Bordéus e muitas das ruas adjacentes são importantes principalmente em termos de comércio e movimento. O que primeiro chama a atenção assim que entramos na praça é a Torre Pey-Berland que está junto á Catedral. A torre tem o nome do arcebispo da cidade, Pierre Berland e foi ele que iniciou a construção da mesma. No topo uma faustosa estátua dourada da Nossa Senhora da Aquitânia.

It is one of the main squares of the city of Bordeaux and many of the surrounding streets are important mainly in trade and movement. What first catches the eye as soon as we entered the square is the Pey-Berland tower that is next to the Cathedral. The tower is named after the city’s Archbishop Pierre Berland and it was he who initiated the construction of the same. At the top one the sumptuous golden statue of Our Lady of Aquitaine.

Quando planeávamos a nossa “road-trip” a França lembro-me de pesquisar na internet sobre Bordéus e uma das primeiras fotos que vi foi a desta praça. Era uma foto nocturna com o reflexo da praça e do eléctrico no espelho de água que está em frente, sabíamos que tínhamos de passar ali e tentar que a nossa câmara (e os nossos olhos) capturasse a mesma imagen.
O nosso plano só teve um problema, fomos durante o dia e não podíamos ficar para o cair da noite. Uma pena mas a verdade é que conseguimos aproveitar muito bem Bordéus e esta belíssima praça com arquitectura do século XVIII.
When we planned our road-trip to France I remember searching the internet about Bordeaux and one of the first pictures I saw was this square. It was a night photo with the reflection of the square and the tram in the mirror of water that is ahead, we knew we had to go there and try to get our camera (and our eyes) to capture the same image.
Our plan had only one problem, we went there during the day and we could not stay for the evening. A shame but the truth is that we could enjoy Bordeaux and this beautiful square with eighteenth-century architecture.
