A vinte minutos (de carro) de Estugarda está a cidade medieval de Esslingen junto ao rio Neckar. Com uma zona a que chamam Pequena Veneza, um Castelo no topo de uma colina com vinhas e um centro histórico muito bem preservado, é de visita obrigatória. Nós passámos aqui o dia percorrendo as suas ruas fazendo parar o tempo.

A twenty-minute drive from Stuttgart is the medieval town of Esslingen by the Neckar river. With an area they call Little Venice, a Castle on a hilltop with vineyards and a well-preserved historic center is a must. We spent the day here walking its streets stopping time.

Tiergarten – Berlim, Alemanha

Nome de bairro e de parque, o Tiergarten é um dos maiores pulmões da cidade com vários pontes de interesse e monumentos, alguns com referência á Segunda Guerra Mundial e outros por exemplo que prestam homenagem a grandes génios músicais. Fomos numa altura onde ainda o Inverno lhe marcava o aspecto e apesar de ter o seu encanto a Primavera sempre faz com que os parques tenham melhor cara.

Name of neighborhood and park, Tiergarten is one of the biggest lungs of the city with several bridges of interest and monuments, some with reference to the Second World War and others for example that pay homage to great musical geniuses. We were at a time when winter still marked its appearance and despite having its charm, Spring always makes the parks look better.

Udo Snack – Estugarda, Alemanha

Queria comer algo rápido com as crianças para aproveitar o resto do dia na cidade, tinha já pesquisado o Udo-Snack que é famoso pelos seus hamburguers e fomos experimentar. O lugar é muito pequeno com mesas altas e sem lugar para sentar,  sem grandes decorações o que é capaz de afastar os Instagrammers mais fashion mas os seus preços são imbatíveis (o mais caro custava 6€ mas o preços começam nos 2,8€).

I wanted to eat something fast with the kids to enjoy the rest of the day in the city, had already researched the Udo-Snack which is famous for its hamburgers and we went to try it. The place is very small with high tables and no place to sit, no large decorations which is able to ward off the most fashionable Instagrammers but their prices are unbeatable (the most expensive cost 6 € but prices start at 2,8 €).

Altes Schloss – Estugarda, Alemanha

A sua primeira construção é do século X e era um castelo rodeado de água, seis mais tarde foi ampliado ao estilo do Renascimento que se nota melhor no seu interior. É realmente sorpreendente quando estás fora e vais entrando descobrindo o seu bonito pátio onde se destaca a estátua de Everardo I de Württemberg a cavalo.

Its first building is from the tenth century and was a castle surrounded by water, six ccenturies later it was expanded to the Renaissance style that is best noted inside. It is really amazing when you see it from the outside and has you go in you discover its beautiful courtyard where the statue of Everardo I of Württemberg on horseback stands today.

Schlossplatz – Estugarda, Alemanha

Quando chegámos a esta praça foi depois de comer, o seu relvado tinha pouca gente mas com o cair da tarde já mal encontravas espaço para sentar-te. É um dos principais pontos de encontro da cidade e dos principais palcos de eventos, no momento em que a visitávamos estava a preparar-se para um importante e por isso não conseguimos vê-la no seu pleno esplendor.

When we got to this square it was after eating, its lawn had few people but by late afternoon you could barely find room to sit. It is one of the main meeting points of the city and the main stages of events, as we were visiting it was preparing for an important one and so we could not see it in its full splendor.

Museu da Mercedes-Benz – Estugarda, Alemanha

Este museu não seria a minha primeira escolha sobre o que ver em Estugarda mas o que sempre me surpreende nos museus de automóveis (este é o segundo o primeiro foi o da BMW) é que na realidade não são apenas sobre carros, têm muito mais de história tanto da criação de uma marca como dos que a construiram como da cidade onde ela nasce e cresce. Tudo isto faz com que uma visita ao Mercedes-Benz valha sempre a pena.

This museum would not be my first choice on what to see in Stuttgart but what always strikes me about car museums (this is the second first BMW one) is that it’s really not just about cars, it has a lot more to it. history of both the creation of a brand and those who built it, as well as the city where it is born and grown. All this makes a visit to the Mercedes-Benz always worthwhile.

Catedral de Berlim – Alemanha

O seu estilo renascentista italiano faz destaca a Catedral da cidade, era a antiga igreja real e continua activa tanto como lugar de culto como museu. Para visitar o seu interior parecia que se pagava no entanto era hora da missa o que faz com que se possa entrar sem pagar, limitando ao mesmo tempo a possibilidade de ver com mais detalhe. É possível igualmente subir até á cúpula e ter uma boa vista sobre a cidade.

Its Italian renaissance style highlights the city’s Cathedral, it was the old royal church and remains as active as a place of worship as a museum. To visit its interior seemed to be paid, however it was time for the mass which makes it possible to enter without paying, limiting at the same time the possibility of seeing in more detail. You can also climb up to the dome and have a good view of the city.

Curry 61 – Berlim, Alemanha

Foi o segundo lugar que visitámos no nosso Food Tour e é considerado um dos melhores Currywurst da cidade, daqueles onde se fazem fila. Obstáculo que conseguimos ultrapassar por ir exactamente no tour e provámos fora de pé a sua salsicha com o famoso molho que procura respeitar o original de Herta Heuwer de 1949. Não somos os grandes especialistas no assunto, a guia dizia que era um dos lugares favoritos de quem realmente aprecia a receita.

It was the second place we visited on our Food Tour and is considered to be one of the best currywurst in the city, from the queue. Obstacle that we managed to overcome by going exactly on the tour and we tasted out their sausage with the famous sauce that seeks to respect the original Herta Heuwer of 1949. We are not the great experts in the subject, the guide said it was one of who really appreciates the recipe.

Memorial dos Sinti e Roma – Berlim, Alemanha

Inserido no Tiergarten, foi inaugurado em 2012 para prestar homenagem ás vitimas do Holocausto de Porajmos durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Os ciganos foram perseguidos pelos nazis nesta época e tal como os judeus foram vitimas do genocidio. O monumento em si é bastante simples, está protegido por um muro de vidro e arvoredo, nesse mesmo muro está a cronologia da história das familias ciganas perseguidas.

Inserted in the Tiergarten, it was inaugurated in 2012 to pay homage to the victims of the Holocaust of Porajmos during World War II. Gypsies were persecuted by the Nazis at this time and just as Jews were victims of genocide. The monument itself is quite simple, it is protected by a glass wall and grove, in this same wall is the chronology of the history of persecuted Gypsy families.

Alexanderplatz – Berlim, Alemanha

Fomos a Berlim na época da Páscoa, a pesar de não ver tantos sinais dela como noutras ciudades alemãs ou de fronteira pensei que as barraquinhas de madeira que vi na Alexanderplatz eram por isso. Ao parecer estão sempre ali pelo menos algumas o que dá um contraste interessante á praça com o seu relógio mundial e edificios modernos á volta, esses pequenos toques do mais tradicional alemão ajuda a complementá-la.

We went to Berlin at Easter time, despite not seeing as many signs of it as in other German cities or frontiers I thought the wooden stands I saw on Alexanderplatz were there for that. Apparently they are there always at least some of them which gives an interesting contrast to the square with its world clock and modern buildings around, these little touches of the more traditional German helps to complement it.
