É um dos nossos sitios preferidos para as férias de Verão, com muitas praias de água cristalina por descobrir, boa comida e muito sol. Sempre que vamos ficamos em Platja D’Aro, é bastante turístico e acaba por funcionar como um centro de operações para chegar a outros lugares com encanto como Tamariu, Cadaqués, Palafruguell, etc..

It’s one of our favorite places for the summer holidays, with many crystal clear beaches, to discover, good food and plenty of sunshine. Whenever we go we stay in Platja D’Aro, it’s quite touristy and ends up working as an operations center to get to other places with charm as Tamariu, Cadaqués, Palafrugell, etc. ..

A maior Ferris Wheel da Europa oferece uma vista de Londres desde os seus 135 metros de altura e dizem que a melhor altura para a visitar é ao final do dia ou durante a noite para ver as luzes da cidade. Foi inaugurada em 2000 e é patrocinada pela Coca-Cola, contém trinta e duas cápsulas bastante espaçosas, climatizadas e com informação (em vários idiomas) sobre o que estamos a ver. Isso sim é preciso encontrar o momento ideal para “embarcar” porque as filas são extensas ainda assim pela nossa experiência andam rápido.

The largest Ferris Wheel in Europe offers great views of London from its 135 meters high and say that the best time to visit is in the sunset or at night to see the city lights. It was inaugurated in 2000 and is sponsored by Coca-Cola, contains thirty-two capsules quite spacious, air conditioned and with information (in several languages) about what we are seeing. You do need to find the ideal time to “embark” because the queues are extensive but from our experience they go fast.

O bilhete compra-se no edificio que está do lado esquerdo da roda gigante, nós cometemos o erro de comprar um combinado com a Madame Tussaud (erro porque não poupámos dinheiro nem as filas). Depois da compra dos bilhetes assistimos a um filme 4D sobre o London Eye seguindo uma gaivota que passeia pela cidade.
Foram uns vinte minutos de espera até entrar dentro de um dos seus casulos com cerca de doze pessoas e simplesmente apreciar a vista. South Bank, Big Ben, Catedral de S. Paulo, o arranha-céus Shard são uma parte do que podemos ver e como fomos ao pôr do sol tudo tinha ainda um toque mais interessante. E o que mais me impressionou foi a estabilidade da cabine e eu que não sou a maior fã das alturas senti-me completamente á vontade, diria que foi das coisas que mais gostei em Londres.

The ticket is bought on the building that is on the left side of the Ferris wheel, we made the mistake of buying a combined with the Madame Tussaud (error because we did not save money or escaped the queues). After purchasing the tickets we watched a 4D film about the London Eye following a seagull flying through the city.
It was about twenty minutes waiting to get inside one of their cocoons with about a dozen people and simply enjoy the view. South Bank, Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, skyscraper Shard are a part of what we see and how we went at sunset making it a more interesting touch. And what impressed me most was the stability of the cabin and I who am not the biggest fan of heights felt completely at ease, I would say it was one of the things I liked best in London.

Dos primeiros sitios onde comemos em Londres foi mais que recomendado por amigos e o marido já tinha estado por isso queria repetir. O conceito é simples: têm três pratos garantido que os fazem bem o que leva a grandes filas para comer em qualquer um dos seus restaurantes do centro de Londres. Nós fomos a um novo que está no 5º andar do Harvey Nichols em Knightsbridge, tivémos que esperar uns vinte minutos para conseguir mesa mas deram-nos um pequeno equipamento electrónico que vibrou quando ficou pronta.
One of the first places we ate in London it was more than recommended by friends and my husband had already been so he wanted to repeat. The concept is simple: they have three main dishes that they make really well which leads to long lines to eat at any of its restaurants of central London. We went to a new one that is on the 5th floor of Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge, had to wait about twenty minutes to get table but they gave us a small electronic equipment that vibrated when it was ready.

Há muito tempo que queria provar a versão económica do Chef madrilenho David Muñoz, o StreetXo esteve primeiro no El Corte Inglés da Callao e foi uma grande frustração fazer tempo para que abrisse para ficar cheio em dois segundos não podendo aproveitar a experiência. Voltámos a tentar no da Serrano porque o outro deixou de existir, agora com mais espaço, com uma barra maior e mais mesas que aqui são suas e não partilham com outras ofertas gastronómicas. A fusão entre a cozinha ibérica e a asiática é uma experiência a não perder e vale a pena nem que seja os vinte minutos de espera.

For a while I wanted to taste the economic version of the Madrid-based Chef David Muñoz, the StreetXo that was first in the El Corte Inglés of Callao and was a great frustration to wait for a while and when it opened filled in two seconds so we could not enjoy the experience. We tried again in Serrano because the other ceased to exist, now with more space, with a larger bar and more tables in it’s own private area not sharing room with other culinary offerings. The fusion between the Iberian cuisine and Asian is an experience not to be missed and is worth even the twenty minutes of waiting.

COMBOIO TURÍSTICO – LEÓN, ESPANHA

Os comboios turísticos sempre levam a debates se realmente são a melhor maneira de conhecer uma cidade, eu pessoalmente não sou contra acho que eles servem um propósito que é dar a conhecer uma cidade como se fosse um guia turístico sobre rodas permitindo ver o principal sem ter que andar tanto a pé. Algo que valorizo por ter filhos ou quando mostrar uma cidade aos meus pais que já não estão com idade para grandes caminhadas. Foi a primeira o motivo de apanhar o comboio, qual é a criança que não gosta de andar num?

Tourist trains always lead to discussions if they really are the best way to know a city, I personally am not against them I think they serve a purpose which is to present a city like a tour guide on wheels so you can see the main monuments without to walking so much on foot. Something I value by having children or when to show a city to my parents who are no longer with age for long walks. It was because of the first that we took the train, which is the child who does not like to walk in?

A Plaza Mayor foi o último que visitámos em León, não é muito diferente a tantas outras praças Mayor com as suas arcadas, com a casa do municipio, as pequenas varandas e os cafés com esplanada mas a beleza de esta é que conservou o seu traçado típico. Foi construída no século XVII no Bairro Humedo e estava fora das muralhas medievais da cidade.
The Plaza Mayor was the last we visited in León, it is not very different of so many other Mayor squares with its arcades, the house of the municipality, small balconies and terrace cafés but the beauty of this is that it saved it’s original arquitecture. It was built in the seventeenth century in Humedo quarter and was outside the medieval city walls.

Rua 11 – León, Espanha

Decidimos não contratar pequeno-almoço no nosso hotel (era muito $$$$) e foi assim que chegámos ao Rua 11, sem ter que fazer uma grande caminhada. Achei que era bastante acolhedor por dentro e foi o que primeiro nos chamou a atenção, queríamos o típico pequeno-almoço espanhol: pan tostado con tomaca e café con leche, bom no meu caso era mais leite com chocolate. Tínhamos pedido umas fatias de bolo mas ao parecer eram oferta com os cafés o que foi ainda melhor.

We decided not to hire breakfast at our hotel (it was very $$$$) and that’s how we arrived at Rua 11, without having to do a great walk. Found it quite cozy inside and was what first caught our attention, we wanted the typical spanish breakfast: toasted bread con tomaca (tomato sauce) and cafe con leche, well in my case it was more chocolate milk. We had ordered a cake slices but apparently wthey ere offering them with the cafes which was even better.

BASÍLICA DE SAN ISIDORO – LEÓN, ESPANHA

Fernando I, o Rei de Leão consagrou esta igreja no século XI. A sua fachada de estilo românico tem na sua porta alguns elementos que ajudam a contar a sua história como por exemplo a porta do Cordeiro por onde entramos para conhecer a igreja tem do lado esquerdo uma escultura de S. Isidoro e do lado direito uma de Pelayo a quem originalmente estava dedicada. Passando a porta entramos num mundo de tranquilidade que nos acompanhou também na visita ao Panteão e ao Museu.
Fernando I, the Lion King consecrated this church in the eleventh century. The façade of the Romanesque style has on it’s door some elements that help tell its story such as Lamb’s door through which we enter to know the church has on the left a sculpture of St. Isidore and the right side a Pelayo to whom it was originally dedicated. Passing the door we enter a world of tranquility that accompanied us also the visit to the Pantheon and the Museum.

LA RUTA JACOBEA – LEÓN, ESPANHA

Durante o nosso passeio pelo comboio turístico o restaurante La Ruta Jacobea captou a nossa atenção e quando terminou o passeio decidimos almoçar aqui. A verdade é que a sua agradável fachada e esplanada ajudaram á escolha mas ao entrar não encontrámos a mesma coerência de decoração e achámos que era um lugar mais tradicional. Ainda assim as suas tapas na “barra” tinham óptimo aspecto mas como íamos com crianças ficámos na sala e não no bar.
 
During our tour of the tourist train the restaurant La Ruta Jacobea captured our attention and when the tour ended we decided to have lunch here. The truth is that its pleasant facade and terrace helped choice but upon entering we did not find the same consistency of decor and we felt it was a more traditional place. Yet their tapas in the “bar“ had good looks but as we were with children we were in the room, not the bar.

Tínhamos visto uma pizzas com pão fofo que serviam como tapa para acompanhar as cervejas que não hesitámos em pedir, pedimos além disso as croquetas, uns ovos mexidos com morcela típica da região o que faz com que tenha o aspecto mais liquido que se pode ver na foto porque não levam arroz como outras receitas de este enchido. Pedimos ainda uns calamares fritos e um entrecote tudo isto para partilhar. Comemos bem, com porções generosas mas nenhum prato se destacou por ser algo do outro mundo, como foi “tapeo” ficou entre 20€-25€ por pessoa (sem contar com as crianças).
 
We saw a pizza with fluffy bread that served as tapa to accompany the beers that we did not hesitate to order, we also had the croquetas, scrambled eggs with “morcilla” (black sausage) typical of the region which means it has the most fluid aspect that can be seen in photo because it does not have rice as other recipes of this sausage. We ordered some fried calamari and entrecote all this to share. We ate well, with generous portions but no dish stood out as something from another world, as “tapeo“ was between 20 € -25 € per person (excluding children).

Casa Botines – León, Espanha

Tinha muita curiosidade para conhecer a Casa Botines uma obra de Antonio Gaudí fora de Barcelona construída no final do século XIX ainda com o estilo neo-gótico e modernista que tinha aplicado no Palácio Episcopal de Astorga. Antes uma sede de uma empresa textil é agora propriedade de um Banco o que significa que não a pudemos visitar.
I was very curious to see the Casa Botines a work of Antonio Gaudí outside Barcelona built in the late nineteenth century still with the neo-Gothic and modernist style that was applied in the Episcopal Palace of Astorga. Once a seat of a textile company is now property of a Bank which means that we could not visit it inside.
