Sentadas a tomar o brunch no Grande Hotel do Porto começámos a planear a nossa tarde que parecia estar comprometida pela chuva e tínhamos claro que queríamos ir a um museu, o primeiro nome foi o da Fundação de Serralves. É um museu de arte contemporânea cujo projecto de arquitectura este a cargo de Álvaro Siza.
Sitting down having brunch at Grande Hotel do Porto we started to plan our afternoon that seemed to be compromised by rain and clear that we wanted to go to a museum, the first name that came up was of the Serralves Foundation. It is a contemporary art museum whose architectural Project was designed by Alvaro Siza.

É um dos melhores exemplos da arquitectura “Art Déco” do país e um dos monumentos mais relevantes da cidade do Porto. Tenho que admitir que não é o meu estilo arquitectónico preferido mas a casa não deixa de ser muito interesante pela sua história, por quem nela viveu e pelo o que é hoje.
Começou por ser propriedade do segundo Conde de Vizela, filho de um dos maiores empresários fabris do país que encomendou a obra a Charles Siclis que a terminou a 1944.
It is one of the finest examples of architecture “Art Deco” in the country and one of the most important monuments of the city of Porto. I have to admit is not my favorite architectural style but the house is nonetheless very interesting for its history, for those who lived in it and by what it is today.
Began to be property of the second Earl of Vizela, son of one of the country’s largest manufacturing entrepreneurs who commissioned the work to Charles Siclis that ended in 1944.

Hotel Yeatman – Porto, Portugal

Este último fim de semana que passei no Porto foi sem dúvida um dos mais curiosos que tive. Primeiro, ficámos hospedadas no Hotel do Norte que fica junto á Rua Sta. Catarina e que custou 50€ para três pessoas, depois reservámos uma massagem no SPA do Yeatman que é um hotel de cinco estrelas, um dos mais luxuosos da cidade cuja noite pode rondar os 300€. Fica na zona de Vila Nova de Gaia junto ás grandes casas produtoras de vinho Porto e com uma vista para a cidade que é simplesmente fantástica.
This last weekend I spent in Porto was undoubtedly one of the more curious I had. First, we were staying at the Hotel do Norte which is near the St. Catarina Street and it was just 50€ for three people, then we booked a massage at the Yeatman’s SPA which is a five-star hotel, one of the city’s most luxurious a night can cost around 300€. It is in the area of Vila Nova de Gaia with the big houses that produce Port wine and a view over the city that is simply fantastic.

São infinitamente mais as vezes que quero ir a um SPA que na realidade vou. Adoro todo o conceito de relaxamento e tranquilidade destes espaços mas fico sempre a pensar se realmente valem o dinheiro que gastamos. Desta vez ia determinada a aproveitar, oferecemo-nos um mimo e ainda para mais num sitio com uma localização “inmejorable” como dizem os espanhóis, no SPA Caudalie Vinothérapie do Hotel Yeatman.
The times I want to go to a SPA are thousands more tan the ones I really. I love the whole relaxing and peaceful concept of this type of places but I keep thing if they are really worth the money we spend in it. This time I was determined to enjoy it, offering myself a good treat and specially in this amazing location, “inmejorable” has the spanish say, in the Hotel Yeatman’s Caudelie Vinothérapie Spa.

Rua Cândido dos Reis – Porto, Portugal

A Rua Cândido dos Reis juntamente com a Galerias de Paris são duas das minhas ruas preferidas no Porto. É verdade que sempre as visitei de noite e isso faz toda a diferença, são das mais animadas da cidade, das mais boémias, sempre com gente na rua e nos bares.
De dia a história é um pouco diferente mas assim consegues realmente prestar atenção aos detalhes dos edifícios e ao ambiente que faz lembrar Paris.
The Rua Cândido dos Reis along with Galerias de Paris are two of my favorite streets in Porto. It is true that I always visited at night and that makes all the difference, they are the liveliest of the city, the most bohemian, always with people on the street and in bars.
By day the story is a little different but this way you can really pay attention to the details of the buildings and the environment that is reminiscent of Paris.

Rua da Cedofeita – Porto, Portugal

É uma conhecida rua de comércio no centro do Porto, não tão conhecida como a Santa Catarina e as suas lojas não são das mais modernas como as que podemos ver no Centro Comercial Bombarda.
Para mim o grande interesse desta rua são os seus edificios antigos (os mais antigos do século XVIII) com a sua arquitectura típica, estreitos com a fachada decorada de azulejos.
It is a known shopping Street in central Porto, not as well known as Santa Catarina and its stores are not the most modern as we can see in the Centro Comercial Bombarda.
For me the great interest of this street are its old buildings (the oldest of the eighteenth century) with its typical architecture, narrow façade decorated with tiles.

Igreja do Carmo – Porto, Portugal

Conhecida pelo seu retábulo em talha dourada no altar-mor e pela sua fachada lateral feita de azulejos, a Igreja do Carmo foi construída no século XVIII nos estilos barroco e rococó. Na fachada podemos ver o profeta Elias e o seu discípulo Eliseu. Foi inspirada no modo de vida do profeta que a Ordem Terceira do Carmo foi fundada.

Known for its gilded altarpiece on the high altar and the side façade made ​​of tile, the Carmo Church was built in the eighteenth century in a baroque and rococó style. In front we see the prophet Elijah and his disciple Elisha. It was inspired by the life of the Prophet that the Third Order of Mount Carmel was founded.

Torre dos Clérigos – Porto, Portugal

Quando foi construída em 1763 era a torre mais alta de Portugal com 75 metros de altura. Pertence á Igreja dos Clérigos foi criada pelo italiano, Nicolau Nasoni que na altura do projecto tinha a intenção de construir duas torres. Mas não é o facto de ser alta, ou de ser um excelente exemplar do barroco na cidade que a torna mais relevante mas sim quando chegas ao seu topo e tens uma vista 360º do Porto.
When it was built in 1763 it was the highest tower in Portugal with 75 meters high. It belongs to the Church of the Clergy (Clérigos) and it was created by the Italian Nicolau Nasoni that at the time intended to build two towers. But is not the fact of being high, or being an excellent example of the Baroque in the city that makes it more relevant but when you get to the top and you have a 360 º view of Porto.

Avenida dos Aliados – Porto, Portugal

Uma das avenidas mais animadas no Porto que rodeia praças emblemáticas que se enchem de gente de passagem ou de passeio. O seu nome serve de homenagem aos Aliados da Primeira Guerra Mundial, mas há mais referências históricas como por exemplo a Estátua Equestre de D. Pedro IV que esta colocada na Praça da Liberdade e onde se pode ler numa das placas que está dedicada aos mártires da patria executados em 1829.
One of the liveliest streets in Port surrounds important squares that get filled with people crossing or walking by. It’s  name serves as a tribute to the Allies of World War I, but there is more another historical references such as the Equestrian Statue of King Pedro IV placed on the Liberade Square and where you can read one one of the signs that it’s dedicated to the martyrs of the homeland executed in 1829.
