Cala Rovira – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

A Cala Rovira fica a uns cinco minutos a pé do hotel onde estávamos alojados e foi das que mais visitámos na nossa estadia. É verdade que ainda está muito perto do centro urbano de Platja D’Aro e por isso tem mais gente mas se evitamos o fim de semana é uma boa praia com bastante espaço para todos.
O acesso é bastante fácil o que faz que seja uma excelente opção para levar crianças.
The Cala Rovira is a five minute walk from the hotel where we were staying and it was the most visited on our stay. It is true that is still very close to the urban center of Platja D’Aro and so it has more people but if one avoids the weekend it’s a good beach with plenty of space for everyone.
Access is fairly easy which makes it an excellent option for taking children.

Praia La Fosca – Costa Brava, Espanha

Fomos á La Fosca já da parte da tarde depois de uma decepcionante viagem até a Jonquera onde diziam que encontraríamos autênticas “pechinchas” em perfumes, etc.. e afinal encontrámos meia dúzia de lojas a venderem o mesmo e nem achámos os preços por aí além. Necessitávamos de uma boa tarde de Praia para o compensar e La Fosca não desiludiu, tinha apenas um defeito não conseguimos estacionar sem ter que pagar.
We went to La Fosca only in the afternoon after a disappointing trip to Jonquera where some said we would find true “bargains” in perfumes, etc. .. and finally we found half a dozen shops all selling the same and  in neither we felt the prices where that low. We needed a good afternoon in the beach to compensate for this and did La Fosca did not disappoint, had only one fault we could not park without having to pay.

Praia da Empuriabrava – Costa Brava, Espanha

Estamos a uma semana de ir de férias, o ano passado pelo nascimento do nosso segundo filho ficámos sem as tradicionais férias de Verão passadas na praia. Este ano decidimos voltar á Costa Brava que visitámos em Julho de 2011. Nunca cheguei a ter muito tempo para publicar aqui as praias que onde disfrutámos do bom tempo quando lá estivémos e decidi recuperar esses posts agora. O primeiro é com a Praia da Empuriabrava.
We’re one week away to go on vacation, last year because of the birth of our second child we were without the traditional summer holidays spent in beach. This year we decided to exit to Costa Brava which we visited in July 2011. I never really had much time to post here the beaches where we enjoy the good weather when we were there and decided to recover these posts now. The first is of the Empuriabrava Beach.

O bom tempo é sempre uma boa influência quando vais passear a algum lado, quando chove, está nublado, ou faz muito vento isso altera completamente a experiência que tens ao conhecer um lugar. Creio que foi isso que me aconteceu ao ver a Praia de S. Telmo, também é certo que eu não sou uma grande fã das praias de areia negra mas até seria capaz de experimentar se as águas assim o permitissem.
 
Good weather is always a good influence when you are talking a walk somewhere, when it rains, is cloudy, windy or it completely changes the experience that you have to know a place. I think that’s what happened to me when I saw the S. Telmo beach, it is also true that I‘m not a big fan of black sand beaches but I would have liked to try the water if they allowed it too.

A zona norte de Tenerife é mais instável em termos de tempo, é complicado vir em Fevereiro e pensarmos que estamos no Verão mas viémos numa altura particularmente “cinzenta” (e ainda bem que foi a trabalho não a lazer) e retirou-lhe alguma beleza.
Segundo a placa informativa esta é uma praia de bandeira azul e preocupada com a imagem com que fiquei dela pus-me a pesquisar mais imagens na internet e vi que realmente nos seus dias bons, naqueles em que as nuvens deixam brilhar o sol e a maré está mais tranquila entre as rochas formam-se pequenas piscinas óptimas para ir a banhos.
Eu gostei de ficar a ver as ondas a baterem nas rochas vulcânicas e fui aproveitando para treinar a fotografia a capturar esses momentos.
 
The north área of Tenerife is more unstable in terms of time, it’s complicated to come here in February and think it’s summer but we came at a particularly “gray” time (lucky for me it was to work and not for pleasure) and took away some of her beauty .
According to the information board this is a blue flag beach and I was concerned about the image that I had of it that I began to see some pictures on the internet and saw that in a really good day, where the clouds let the sun shine and the tide is quite peaceful the rocks make small pools great for bathing.
I liked staying there and watching the waves hit the volcanic rocks and enjoying some photography practice to capture those moments.

Estávamos na autoestrada Cantábrica (A8) a fazer o caminho entre Santiago de Compostela e Oviedo quando saímos quando vimos a placa que indicava: “Playa de las Catedrales”. Um dos locais que nos tinham recomendado visitar e que mesmo curtos de tempo conseguimos passar por lá.
Acabámos por não descer mas do seu miradouro percebemos porque é que lhe chamam Praia das Catedrais uma vez que o seu verdadeiro nome é Praia das Águas Santas.
 
We were in the Cantabrian motorway (A8) to make the road on our way to Oviedo coming from Santiago de Compostela when we took an exit as soon as we saw a sign that said: “Playa de las Catedrales.” One of the places that was recommended and even short on time we were able go there.
We didn’t go down but its viewpoint realize why they call it the Beach Cathedrals since his real name is Praia das Águas Santas.


As grandes rochas formam arcos que fazem lembrar os das Catedrais medievais e tivémos muita sorte em ter chegado com a maré vazia caso contrário não seria possível vê-los.
Junto á praia está também uma zona de merendas e tem um bom parque de estacionamento.
Para melhor disfrutar desta praia o ideal é mesmo pôr o pé na areia coisa que infelizmente não tivémos tempo de fazer.
 
The big rocks form archs that remind you of those in the medieval Cathedrals and we were lucky to have arrived with a low tide otherwise we couldn’t see them.
Close to the beach there is also a picnic area and a good parking area.
The best way to enjoy this beach is to put your foot in the sand something that unfortunately we didn’t have time to do it.

Sa Conca – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

Quando passámos férias na Costa Brava estava a custar-nos um pouco encontrar aquelas “calas” ou pequenas praias com pouca gente que tanta boa publicidade fazem á zona. Sabíamos que elas existiam só não sabíamos muito bem onde, até que percebemos que mesmo ao lado do nosso alojamento na Platja D’Aro havia uma Praia que não sendo a típica cala pequena conseguia manter esse espírito: Sa Conca.

When we were spending our holidays on the Costa Brava it was costing us a bit to find those “calas” or small beaches with few people that do so much good publicity of the area. We knew they existed but we didn’t knew very well where, until we realized that right beside our accommodation in Platja D’Aro there was a beach that is not the typical small cala but could keep this spirit: Sa Conca.

Também conhecida como a Praia do Peixe ou dos Pescadores, é ainda hoje utilizada pelos pescadores cujo porto fica mesmo ao lado e também a lota.
Não é das melhores praias para estar no Verão em Cascais, a verdade é que em algumas épocas o seu cheiro a peixe é bastante intenso pela proximidade que tem ao porto. Por outro lado é pequena e enche com facilidade.

Also known as the Praia do Peixe (fish) or Pescadores (fisherman), is still used by fishermen whose port is right next door and also the auction.
It’s not the best beach in the summer in Cascais, the truth is that at some times it’s fish smell is quite intense because it is so close to the port. On the other hand it’s small and fills easily.

Por estar junto á Praça 5 de Outubro é a mais central do concelho e está em frente do Hotel Baía, o que significa que para quem ali fica alojado é só atravessar a estrada e está com um pé na água.
Á sua volta está um bonito passeio que fora da época balnear e em dias de bom tempo atrai muitos que querem fazer uma agradável caminhada á beira mar.

Being near the Praça 5 de Outubro it’s the most central of the county and it’s in front of the Hotel Baia, which means that for anyone who is staying there its just cross the road and have one foot in the water.
Around it there is a beautiful stroll that outside the high season and in good weather days attracts many who want to make a pleasant walk by the seaside.

Localizada na Bahia com o mesmo nome e com vista priveligiada para o Monte Urgull, é uma das mais conhecidas praias urbanas de Espanha.  Dizem que no Verão enche bastante, nós fomos em Abril e por isso conseguimos ver perfeitamente toda a extensão dos 1,4Kms de areal. No seu pico, há todos espalhados pela praia e uma zona de desportos de praia.

O porto dos pescadores é outra das zonas famosas de Biarritz, principalmente pelas suas pequenas casas onde viviam e que algumas delas deram hoje lugar a restaurantes e bares, sendo que o peixe é estrela dos pratos que neles se pode comer.
Para localizá-lo é só descer da Praça de St. Eugenie (onde vemos a igreja), foi construído no século passado e hoje em dia funciona mais numa vertente turística e de recreio que propriamente para o oficio que foi criado.
 
The port of fishermen is another of the famous areas of Biarritz, mainly for its small houses where they lived and some of them now gave way to restaurants and bars, and the fish is the star dishes that you can eat in them.
To find it just go down to the Plaza St. Eugenie (where we see the church), it was built in the last century and today operates in more to tourist and recreational aspects than the craft  it was exactly created for.

Uma das formas de apreciar o porto é num miradouro que o separa da Grand Plage junto a uma pequenina praia rochosa. Um dos restaurantes do porto mais recomendados é o Chez Albert, conhecido pela sua cozinha basca e essencialmente pela sua carta do mar com o peixe o marisco á cabeça. One of the ways to enjoy the harbor is from a viewpoint that separates the Grand Plage next to a tiny rocky beach. One of the most recommended restaurants in the harbor is Chez Albert, known for its Basque cuisine and essentially for it’s menú of the sea with the fish seafood on the top of it. GRANDE PLAGE – BIARRITZ, FRANÇA

O ano passado o nosso primeiro dia de praia foi aqui, na Grande Plage de Biarritz. Estávamos no final de Abril e o tempo não era o mais quente, ainda assim deitámo-nos ao sol, de fato de banho e molhámos o pé na água, só…porque a temperatura não era a mais agradável para mergulhos.
O sentimento era fantástico estávamos na meca do veraneio de classe e glamour, além de ser um santuário do surf, que mais podíamos pedir?

Last year our first beach day was here, the Grande Plage in Biarritz. It was late April and the weather was not the warmest, but still we layed down in the sun, with our bathing suits on  and we put a foot in the water … just because the temperature was not the most pleasant to dive.
The feeling was fantastic we were on a vacation mecca of class and glamor, besides being a surf sanctuary, what more could you ask for?

A praia está limitada por dois edificios de grande relevância, um é o Casino de Bellevue que vemos na foto abaixo e o outro é  o luxuoso Hotel du Palais. Esta foi uma boa altura para visitar a Grande Plage, seguramente que no pico de Verão ela se tornará pequena para a grande afluência que costuma ter. Foi a imperatriz Eugénie, mulher de Napoleão III que mandou construir o palácio que hoje é um hotel e um símbolo de uma época de grande riqueza em Biarritz. Graças a ela, várias familias reais fizeram desta localidade francesa o seu local priveligiado de veraneio. No seu interior funcionam dois restaurantes referência, o La Rotonde e o Ville Eugénie. 
Em frente á praia um dos edificios mais relevantes é o do Casino Municipal que também funciona como Centro de Congressos.

The beach is bordered by two buildings of great importance, one is the Casino de Bellevue that we see in the photo below (the last one) and the other is the luxurious Hotel du Palais. This was a good time to visit the Grande Plage, certainly at the peak of summer it becomes small for the large turnout it usually has. It was the Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III who built the palace which is now a hotel and a symbol of an era of great wealth in Biarritz. Thanks to her, many royal families have made this French town their privileged vacation resort. Inside two restaurants are a reference, La Rotonde and the Ville Eugenie.
Opposite the beach one of the most important buildings the Municipal Casino that is also a Congress Centre.
