A fábrica do Cheesecake não é um original de Chicago mas sim de Detroit e apesar de hoje ser uma grande cadeia começou com Evelyn Overton que segundo dizem fazia uns cheesecakes deliciosos em casa e acabou por abrir uma pequena loja, graças a ela pude provar um dos melhores que alguma vez comi e não sendo nenhuma especialista no assunto saí bastante contente. Fui ao que fica no John Hancock Center e quando entras a decoração faz-te sentir no País das Maravilhas.
The Cheesecake Factory is not an original Chicago but Detroit and although today it is a large chain it began with Evelyn Overton who they say made delicious cheesecakes at home and eventually opened a small shop, thanks to her I could taste oneof the best I‘ve ever eaten and being no expert on the subject I left very happy. I went to the one that is on the John Hancock Center and when you enter the decor makes you feel in Wonderland.

Beatrix – Chicago, EUA

A história da nossa ida ao Beatrix começa pelo o seu nome, o mesmo de uma colega que estava connosco em Chicago mas além disso foi recomendado por uma amiga sua que dizia que era óptimo e não defraudou as expectativas, comemos muito bem aqui. Dizem que continua a ser um dos sitios da moda da cidade com uma sala acolhedora com um ambiente descontraído e bastante composta para uma terça-feira á noite.
The story of our trip to the Beatrix starts with your name, the same as a colleague who was with us in Chicago but also was recommended by a friend of hers who said it was great and did not defraud the expectations, we ate very well here. They say it is still one of the city’s trendy places with a cozy living room with a relaxed environment and quite busy for a Tuesday evening at.

John Hancock Center 360º – Chicago, EUA

Antes de ir á Willis Tower fui ao John Hancock center e pelas fotos se nota que não foi o melhor momento porque o céu estava nublado, não conseguíamos ver a cidade com a luz e cor que se pode ver por exemplo na Primavera. Ainda assim a vista 360º é impressionante e é também uma maneira de ver os outros arranha-céus da cidade que se podem comparar com a sua altura como o que a Willis tower que já mencionei mas também vemos a Trump Tower. Para isto temos que chegar ao piso 94 deste edificio com trezentos e quarenta metros de altura.
Before going to the Willis Tower I went to the John Hancock Center and in the pictures you may notice that it was not the best time because the sky was cloudy, we could not see the city with light and color that can be seen for example in the spring. Still the 360º view is impressive and is also a way to see the city’s other skyscrapers that can be compared to it’s height as the Willis tower that I already mentioned but we also see the Trump Tower. For this we have to get to floor 94 of this building with three hundred and forty meters high.

Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria – Chicago, EUA

Ficou em aberto (pelo menos para mim) a discussão da melhor Deep Dish Pizza de Chicago, há quem diga que a original será sempre a melhor e essa só comemos na Pizzeria Uno que eu tinha na esquina da rua do meu hotel ainda assim decidi aceitar a sugestão de uma colega de trabalho americana que disse: “As melhores são as do Lou Malnati”. Têm vários restaurantes mas o que visitei ficava no South Loop.
Remained open (at least for me) the discussion of the best Deep Dish Pizza Chicago, some say that the original is always the best and that we can only eat at Pizzeria Uno that was close to my hotel’s street corner yet decided to accept the suggestion of an American co-worker who said, “the best are the ones from Lou Malnati“. They have several restaurants but the one I visited was in the South Loop.

Magnificient Mile – Chicago, EUA

Foram várias as vezes que passei pela Michigan Avenue mais conhecida como a Magnificient Mile, de certa forma era o meu ponto de referência para me guiar pela cidade. A avenida é grande mas o Magnificient Mile refere-se apenas á parte a norte do rio de Chicago e começa depois da Ponte Du Sable chegando até á Torre de John Hancock. São vários os edificios emblemáticos que podemos ver aqui mas o dos seus maiores atrativos são as lojas que mesmo com o frio convidam a passear na rua.
There were several the times I passed by the Michigan Avenue better known as the Magnificent Mile, in a way it was my reference point to guide me through the city. The avenue is quite big but the Magnificient Mile refers only to north part of the Chicago River and begins after the Du Sable Bridge going as far as the John Hancock Tower. There are several emblematic buildings that we can see here but its biggest attractions are the shops that even with the cold invite to walk in the Street.

Millenium Park – Chicago, EUA

É talvez das imagens mais icónicas de Chicago: o Cloud Gate ou como é conhecido localmente – the Bean. Tinha por isso muita curiosidade e não sei porquê esperava algo maior mas ainda assim é divertido ver esta gigantesca escultura que já se tornou um “landmark” da cidade além de colocar no mapa turístico o Millennium Park localizado na zona norte do Grant Park.
O nome já diz muito, este parque está dedicado ao novo milénio e nele podemos ver alguns exemplos da arte moderna como o já mencionado Cloud Gate mas também o Jay Pritzker Pavillion ou a Crown Fountain.
It is perhaps one of the most iconic images of Chicago: the Cloud Gate or as it is known locally – the Bean. Had so much curiosity and do not know why expect something bigger but it’s still fun to see this giant sculpture that has already become a landmark of the city as well as put on the tourist map the Millennium Park located in the north of Grant Park.
The name says a lot, this park is dedicated to the new millennium and in it we can see some examples of modern art as the aforementioned Cloud Gate but also the Jay Pritzker Pavillion or the Crown Fountain.

Parque de Navy Pier – Chicago, EUA

Tinha muito curiosidade de conhecer o Navy Pier, nunca tinha estado em nenhum do género e quando estive em Nova Iorque foi das coisas que tinha planeado mas não houve tempo.  O Inverno não é a melhor altura para visitá-lo mas ainda assim havia bastante gente, estavam a remodelar algumas partes e achei que seria uma zona mais vocacionada para ar livre mas é na realidade um grande centro de ócio com algumas partes que não estão fechadas, uma delas é a sua famosa Ferris Wheel.
Was very curious about the Navy Pier, had never been to one of that kind and when I was in New York it was one of the things we had planned but there was no time do it. Winter is not the best time to visit it but still it had a lot of people, they were repairing a part of it and I thought it would be an area more focused in the outdoors but is actually a big center of entertainment with some parts that are not closed , one of them is its famous Ferris Wheel.

Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab – Chicago, EUA

Quando entrei no Joe’s já sabia o que queria comer: uma sandes de caranguejo do Alaska. A minha rápida escolha e decisão chegou a surpreender a empregada que me atendeu mas tinha pouco tempo para comer e queria muito comer algo assim depois de em Nova Iorque ter provado os Lobster rolls. O Joe’s estava muito perto do meu hotel e pareceu-me uma boa opção, o original está em Miami e é famoso pelo seu Stone crab e a proposta de uma lugar onde podes comer um bom bife e provar o marisco norte-americano parece-me excelente.
When I walked into Joe’s I already knew what I wanted to eat: a crab sandwich Alaska. My quick choice and decision come has a surprise to the waitress that had my table but I had little time to eat and wanted to eat something like this specially after in New York I tasted the Lobster rolls. Joe‘s was very close to my hotel and it seemed like a good option, the original is in Miami and is famous for its Stone crab and the proposal of a place where you can eat a good steak and taste the US seafood seems to me excellent.

Skydeck Willis Tower – Chicago, EUA

Partilha com o John Hancock Center as melhores vistas da cidade como a concorrência que há em Nova Iorque entre o Empire State Building e o Top of the Rock, mas a Willis tower – antiga Sears Tower – tem algo de especial, não sei se foi a hora do dia a que a visitei, se a sua historia mas foi um momento extraordinário e um dos pontos altos da minha passagem pela cidade. Ajudou-me a ver desde cima o que já sabíamos, Chicago é especial. Uma cidade das que vale mesmo a pena visitar, pelo rio, pelo lago, pelos demais arranha-céus, pelos seus parques, pela sua comida, etc..

Shares with the John Hancock Center the best views of the city a competition like the one there is in New York with the Empire State Building and Top of the Rock, but the Willis tower – old Sears Tower – has something special, I do not know if it was the time of day I visited, if it’s history but it was an extraordinary time and one of the highlights of my passing through this city. It helped me to see from above what we already knew, Chicago is special. A city of those that are worth visiting, because of its river, the lake, the other skyscrapers, its parks, for its food, etc ..

ACME Company Hotel – Chicago, EUA

Depois de ter estado no Hyatt Magnificent Mile tenho que confessar que precisei de ajustar-me ao ACME, um hotel muito mais descontraído onde te sentes como um rock star com uma decoração alternativa e capas de discos de bandas rock clássicas nos elevadores. Em vez de fatos os recepcionistas usam sweatshirts da ACME. Tem dois pontos a favor, a localização e preço. Fica a poucos metros da Magnificient mile, do edificio da Wrigley e uns dez minutos (a pé) da zona do Loop, para não falar da grande quantidade de restaurantes á sua volta.
After being at the Hyatt Magnificent Mile I have to confess that I had to adjust myself to the ACME, a hotel much more relaxed where you feel like a rock star with an alternative decoration and bands album covers rock in classical lifts. Instead of suits recepcionists use ACME sweatshirts. Has two strengths, the location and price. It is a few meters from the Magnificent Mile, the Wrigley building and ten minutes (walk) from the Loop area, not to mention the plethora of restaurants around you.
