Praia de Canadell – Palafrugell, Espanha

Há dois anos atrás quando estivémos na Costa Brava pela primeira vez viémos a Calella de Palafruguell, fizémos praia mas o céu estava coberto de nuvens e optámos por dar um passeio. Foi assim que descobrimos a praia de Canadell e nessa altura ficámos com pena de o tempo não convidar a dar um mergulho. Este ano decidimos que tínhamos que ir e fizémos umas boas horas de praia aí.
Two years ago when we were for the first time in Costa Brava we went to Calella de Palafruguell, we went to the beach but the sky was covered with clouds and we decided to take a walk. That’s how we discovered the Canadell beach and regreted the uninviting weather that did not allow us to take a dip. This year we decided we had to go and had a few good hours of beach there.

Xurreria Jofre – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

Primeiro é preciso esclarecer que o churro em Portugal equivale a uma porra (eu sei que a palavra é polémica mas é a que há) em Espanha, as farturas que são as mais pequeninas aqui são os xurros. Dito isto e apesar de não ter nenhuma pós-graduação sobre Churros/Porras tenho que dizer que as melhores que comi foram aqui na Xurreria Jofre em Platja D’Aro.
First we must clarify that the churro (fried dough pastry) in Portugal equals a “porra” (I know the word is controversial but it is there, it actually translates to the f*** Word) in Spain, the fritters (farturas) which are the tiniest here are xurros. That said, and despite not having any postgraduate about Churros / Porras I have to say that was the best I ate were here on Xurreria Jofre in Platja D’Aro.

VILA ROMANA DE PLA DE PALOL – PLATJA D’ARO, ESPANHA

Para os que pensam que Platja D’Aro se resume a praia podem visitar (gratuitamente) a Vila Romana de Pla de Palol que está a caminho da Cala Rovira. As escavações que podemos hoje apreciar são uma pequena amostra de uma grande vila romana que aqui existiu no século I dC.
For those who think Platja D’Aro boils down to the beach they can visit (for free) the Roman Villa Pla de Palol that is on the access to Cala Rovira. The excavations that we enjoy today are a small sample of a large Roman villa that existed here in the first century AD.

Papa Paella – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

NOTA: ESTE RESTAURANTE FECHOU! (CLOSED)
Não somos os maiores fãs de paella principalmente quando é para comer fora mas o Papa Paella já nos tinha chamado a atenção no primeiro dia que passámos por esta rua e decidimos experimentar. No dia em que fomos estava vazio, algo que fazia saltar o sinal de alarme já que tantos outros restaurantes na rua estavam cheios, á primeira vista o preço pode afastar as pessoas mas no geral comemos muito bem a um preço regular.
We are not the biggest paella fans especially when it is to eat out but  the Papa Paella already had drawn our attention on the first day we went through this street and decided to try. In the day we went there it was empty, something that makes the alarm jump since so many other restaurants on the street were full, at first glance the price may turn people off but overall we ate very well at a regular price.

Cala Rovira – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

A Cala Rovira fica a uns cinco minutos a pé do hotel onde estávamos alojados e foi das que mais visitámos na nossa estadia. É verdade que ainda está muito perto do centro urbano de Platja D’Aro e por isso tem mais gente mas se evitamos o fim de semana é uma boa praia com bastante espaço para todos.
O acesso é bastante fácil o que faz que seja uma excelente opção para levar crianças.
The Cala Rovira is a five minute walk from the hotel where we were staying and it was the most visited on our stay. It is true that is still very close to the urban center of Platja D’Aro and so it has more people but if one avoids the weekend it’s a good beach with plenty of space for everyone.
Access is fairly easy which makes it an excellent option for taking children.

Aparthotel Ciutat de Palol – Platja D’Aro, Espanha

A primeira vez que passámos férias em Platja D’Aro na Costa Brava escolhemos um modesto apartamento mais perto do Porto de Recreio que ficava na ponta oposta ao local que escolhemos este ano, o Aparthotel Ciutat de Palol. Foram vários os motivos para escolhê-lo, o primeiro porque queríamos um hotel perto de uma praia mais pequena (a Cala Rovira) e que fosse mais agradável que a principal, depois por toda a infrasestrutura do hotel desde as suas piscinas passando pelo restaurante com comida take-away.
The first time we spent our holiday in Platja D’Aro on the Costa Brava we chosen a more modest apartment near the marina at the opposite end of the place we chose this year, the Aparthotel Ciutat de Palol. There were several reasons to chose it, the first because we wanted a hotel near a smaller beach (Cala Rovira) and it was more enjoyable than the main one, then the hotel structure  from its pools through the restaurant with take-away.

ROCAMBOLESC – PLATJA D’ARO, ESPANHA

Os irmãos Roca do famoso restaurante El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considerado o melhor restaurante do mundo) decidiram transformar o seu carrinho de sobremesas numa gelataria ambulante, pelo menos essa foi a ideia original mas acabaram por “estacioná-lo” em duas lojas: uma em Girona e esta em Platja D’Aro que eu tive o privilégio de visitar…duas vezes.
The Roca brothers of the famous restaurant El Celler de Can Roca en Girona (considered the best restaurant in the world) decided to transform their dessert cart into a moving icecream parlour, at least that was the original idea but eventually they had to”park it” in two stores : one in Girona and this one Platja D’Aro I had the privilege of visiting … twice.

Praia La Fosca – Costa Brava, Espanha

Fomos á La Fosca já da parte da tarde depois de uma decepcionante viagem até a Jonquera onde diziam que encontraríamos autênticas “pechinchas” em perfumes, etc.. e afinal encontrámos meia dúzia de lojas a venderem o mesmo e nem achámos os preços por aí além. Necessitávamos de uma boa tarde de Praia para o compensar e La Fosca não desiludiu, tinha apenas um defeito não conseguimos estacionar sem ter que pagar.
We went to La Fosca only in the afternoon after a disappointing trip to Jonquera where some said we would find true “bargains” in perfumes, etc. .. and finally we found half a dozen shops all selling the same and  in neither we felt the prices where that low. We needed a good afternoon in the beach to compensate for this and did La Fosca did not disappoint, had only one fault we could not park without having to pay.

Mais um sitio para ir de “tapas” aqui no bairro. Chama-se Tanteo e fica junto á Gran Via de Majadahonda. A sua esplanada chama a atenção e mais agora no Verão que sabe bem estar ali sentado a tomar uma “caña” e a comer umas tapas.
Fomos á hora do almoço e a um Domingo, além disso fomos relativamente cedo (antes das 14h) e estava quase vazio. 
 
Another place to have “tapas” in the neighborhood. It’s called Tanteo and is near the Gran Via in Majadahonda. Its terrace attracts attention and more so now that in the summer it feels great to drink a a “caña” and tapas.
We went at lunch hour on a Sunday, also it was relatively early (before 14h) and almost empty.

Pedimos alguns “tanteos” que são as suas meias doses, pedimos um rolos de queijo brie com molho de framboesa, uns “chopitos” que são uns choquitos fritos e para os quais pedi molho ali-oli. Depois pedimos um falso risotto de trufas e queijo parmesão que estava muito bom mas que eu teria preferido que fosse mesmo feito com arroz em vez de massa, suponho que a última opção garante que esteja sempre bem cozinhado.
A sobremesa foi o que não correu tão bem, era brownie com uma bola de gelado e não me parecía caseiro, muito menos feito no dia o que é uma pena para um restaurante destes e que até aqui tudo o que tinha servido era de boa qualidade.
No final não saiu barato para quem comeu tapas, pagámos mais de 20€ por pessoa com as sobremesas mas sem vinho.
 
We ordered some “tanteos” what are half portions we ordered brie cheese rolls with raspberry sauce, a “chopitos” that are a small cuttlefish fried and for which I asked for some ali-oli sauce. Then we asked a false truffle and parmesan cheese risotto which was very good but I would have preferred that it was made ​​with rice instead of pasta, suppose the last option ensures that esteha always well cooked.
The dessert was the one that did not go so well, it was brownie with a scoop of ice cream and it did not seem homemade, much less done in the day which is a shame for a restaurant like thus and so far everything they had served was of good quality .
In the end it wasn’t cheap for eating tapas, we paid more than 20 € per person without wine but with dessert.

Decidi interromper os meus posts sobre Praga para falar sobre a fantástica noite que tivémos na sexta-feira passada. Percebemos agora que há mais de quatro anos que não íamos a um concerto (o último foi o Rock in Rio Lisboa) e nem queríamos acreditar que estávamos ali a ouvir Maria Creuza cantar Vinicius de Moraes e Tom Jobim num concerto gratuito e com um ambiente que não tem preço.
 
I decided to take a break of my posts on Prague to talk about the fantastic night we had this past Friday. We now see that there it has passed more than four years since our last concert (the last was the Rock in Rio Lisboa) and neither wanted to believe that we were there to hear Maria Creuza sing Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim in a free concert and an environment that was priceless.

O cartaz do Fringe que dura até 27 de Julho tem na sua essência artistas alternativos nas suas variadas formas desde o teatro á música. Nesse mesmo dia descubro através do Facebook (ainda serve para alguma coisa boa) que Maria Creuza uma das divas do Bossa Nova ia estar ali na Praça do Matadero para um concerto gratuito graças ao patrocinio da Embaixada do Brasil e da Fundação Hispano-Brasileira.
No plano estava jantar na Cantina mas já chegámos muito tarde e estava cheia de gente, ficará para outra oportunidade. Acabámos por comer no bar da organização do evento que tem uma carta limitada a hamburguers e cachorros quentes, preferimos os primeiros que não estavam nada maus. Pagámos 16€ por dois hamburguers e duas coca-colas e isto foi tudo o que gastámos ali.
Por volta das 23h sobe ao palco a estrela da noite num ambiente de festa de amigos, portugueses, brasileiros e espanhóis todos juntos a apreciar e a balançar ao ritmo da música. Levámos o nosso bébé (que está quase com o ano) e não era a única criança ali, tenho que dizer que ele estava muito tranquilo (a pesar de ser a sua hora de dormir) enquanto ouvia a grande voz de Maria Creuza.
Temas como: “Garota de Ipanema”, “Você abusou”, “Felicidade”, “Onde anda você” e “Eu sei que vou te amar” (um dos mais emotivos da noite) fizeram levantar as vozes entre o público.
Uma noite quente, animada, emotiva e ainda para mais, para os días que correm, sem gastar muito dinheiro. Foi um programa perfeito para os “Veranos de la Villa”.
 
The Fringe program which lasts until July 27 is in essence alternative artists in their various forms since the theater will music. That same day I find out through Facebook (still good for something) that Maria Creuza one of the divas of the Bossa Nova would be there in the Plaza del Matadero for a free concert thanks to the patronage of the Embassy of Brazil and Fundación Hispano-Brazilian.
The plan was dinner at Cantina but we arrived too late and it was packed, a subject for another opportunity. We ended up eating at the bar of the organization of the event that a menú limited to hamburgers and hot dogs, we prefered the first ones that were not bad. We paid € 16 for two burgers and two cokes and this was all that we spent there.
Around 23h the star of the evening takes the stage in a party atmosphere of friends, Portuguese, Brazilian and Spanish together to appreciate and sway to the music. We took our baby (which is almost a year old) and was not the only child there, I have to say that it was very quiet (despite being his bedtime) while listening to the great voice of Maria Creuza.
Themes like “Girl from Ipanema”, “Você Abusou”, “Felicidade”, “Onde anda você” and “Eu sei que vou te amar” (one of the most emotional of the evening) did raise voices among the public.
A hot night, lively, emotional and even more so, at times like these, without spending much money. It was a perfect program for the “Veranos de la Villa”.
