Esta é uma road trip pensada nas cidades onde podemos encontrar uma grande parte do património histórico e cultural de Portugal. Lisboa e Porto são sempre as principais, Braga, Évora e Sintra já começaram a ter muitos fãs mas é igualmente interessante por dar a conhecer o Mosteiro da Batalha, o Convento de Cristo em Tomar ou berço da nação em Guimarães.
This is a road trip designed in cities where we can find a large part of Portugal’s historical and cultural heritage. Lisbon and Porto are always the main ones, Braga, Évora and Sintra have already started to have a lot of fans but it is equally interesting for making known the Batalha Monastery, the Convent of Tomar or the birthplace of the nation in Guimarães.

1. Lisboa
A viagem arranca na capital, dois dias são o tempo suficiente para conhecer a sua essência, passear pelas suas ruas admirando a sua arquitetura, visitar o Castelo de S. Jorge e apreciar a vista que tem sobre a cidade. Nestes dois dias é obrigatório sacar partido da grande oferta foodie da cidade para todos os gostos e carteiras, por exemplo do Chef José Avillez a oferta é mais que variada, desde o Belcanto, passando pelo Minibar e acabando no Bairro do Avillez.
The trip starts in the capital, two days is enough time to get to know its essence, stroll through its streets admiring its architecture, visit the Castle of S. Jorge and enjoy the view it has over the city. In these two days it is mandatory to take advantage of the great foodie offer of the city for all tastes and wallets, for example from Chef José Avillez the offer is more than varied, from Belcanto, passing through the Minibar and ending up in the Bairro do Avillez.

2. Sintra
Sintra é um lugar único e romântico. Entre castelos e palácios, contam-se histórias de amor e mistério. O Cabo da Roca e a serra são os pontos de interesse para os que adoram a natureza e para os que adoram comida, Sintra não desilude entre queijadas e travesseiros estão aqui bons restaurantes para provar a comida típica portuguesa.
Sintra is a unique and romantic place. Between castles and palaces, stories of love and mystery are told. Cabo da Roca and the mountains are points of interest for those who love nature and for those who love food, Sintra does not disappoint with cheeses and pillows, here are good restaurants to sample typical Portuguese food.

3. Évora
Évora é conhecida pelo seu Templo de Diana e por ser uma cidade de estudantes mas é muito mais que isso. É uma das embaixadoras da comida alentejana (comida essa que adoro) com as ruas cheias de pequenos restaurantes prontos a servir as migas, a açorda, os ensopados e o gaspacho fresco do Verão. Tem uma vida única fruto das suas universidades sendo a Praça do Giraldo o seu epicentro.
Évora is known for its Temple of Diana and for being a city of students but it is much more than that. She is one of the ambassadors of Alentejo food (food that I love) with the streets full of small restaurants ready to serve migas, açorda, stews and fresh summer gazpacho. It has a unique life as a result of its universities being Praça do Giraldo its epicenter.
4. Tomar
O Convento de Cristo é o que mais se destaca de Tomar e confirma a sua grande ligação á Ordem dos Templários. O seu centro histórico também tem os seus atrativos, as suas ruas algumas peatonais são animadas pelo comércio e os muitos restaurantes onde comer os seus pratos mais típicos. A Praça da República também merece uma menção, nela encontramos a igreja de S. João Baptista, o edificio da Câmara Municipal e estátua de Gualdim Pais, fundador da cidade.
The Convent of Christ is the one that most stands out in Tomar and confirms its great connection to the Order of the Templars. Its historic center also has its attractions, its streets, some pedestrian streets are animated by commerce and the many restaurants where to eat its most typical dishes. Praça da República also deserves a mention, in it we find the church of S. João Baptista, the building of the City Hall and statue of Gualdim Pais, founder of the city.

5. Coimbra
Coimbra é uma lição de sonho e tradição, é parte de uma letra do Fado dedicado á cidade que a Amália fez famoso. É muitas vezes esquecida entre Lisboa e Porto, nela está concentrada uma grande parte da nossa história mais antiga, no seu Mosteiro de Santa Cruz está o túmulo do primeiro rei de Portugal. É pequena com muito para ver e só a Universidade, uma das mais antigas do mundo merece uma visita com tempo.
Coimbra is a lesson of dream and tradition, it is part of a letter from Fado dedicated to the city that Amália made famous. It is often overlooked between Lisbon and Porto, it concentrates a large part of our oldest history, in its Monastery of Santa Cruz is the tomb of the first king of Portugal. It is small with a lot to see and only the University, one of the oldest in the world, deserves a visit with time.

6. Porto
O Porto é único, tem o seu próprio encanto e nem vale a pena compará-lo com outras cidades. A sua vida em frente ao rio, as suas casas coloridas, a sua decadência que te faz pensar que parou no tempo e depois vês que é igual de cosmopolita como qualquer outra cidade europeia, na sua própria escala. Estão planificados dois dias na cidade dentro de esta Road Trip, tempo suficiente para conhecer o seu Cais da Ribeira, subir ao Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar para ter as melhores vistas e comer, comer bem. Francesinhas, marisco, etc..
Oporto is unique, has its own charm and is not even worth comparing with other cities. Its life in front of the river, its colorful houses, its decadence that makes you think it stopped in time and then you see that it is as cosmopolitan as any other European city, on its own scale. Two days in the city are planned within this Road Trip, enough time to get to know its Cais da Ribeira, climb to the Monastery of Serra do Pilar to have the best views and eat, eat well. 7. Guimarães
Património Mundial da Cultura, é mais conhecida como o berço da nação ou cidade berço. Guimarães está na origem da história de Portugal, Afonso Henriques o nosso primeiro rei estabeleceu aqui o reino e continuou a ganhar importância com os seus antecessores. Uma vez mais ao visitá-la sentimos que o tempo para, as suas praças (da Oliveira e Santiago) são pitorescas e vale a pena visitar sem dúvida o seu Castelo, o Paço dos Duques de Bragança e o Toural.
UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is best known as the birthplace of the nation or birthplace. Guimarães is at the origin of the history of Portugal, Afonso Henriques our first king established the kingdom here and continued to gain importance with his predecessors. Once again when we visit it, we feel that the time to stop, its squares (da Oliveira and Santiago) are picturesque and it is definitely worth visiting its Castle, the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança and the Toural.

8. Braga
Braga sempre foi uma das minhas cidades portuguesas favoritas, adoro história e aqui encontramos tanta para contar. A começar pela Sé, a mais antiga do país e terminando no topo do Bom Jesus. Depois vem a gastronomias, as pessoas da cidade e o facto de que soube reinventar-se mesmo com a sua longa história.
Braga has always been one of my favorite Portuguese cities, I love history and here we find so much to tell. Beginning with Sé, the oldest in the country and ending at the top of Bom Jesus. Then comes the gastronomy, the people of the city and the fact that it has reinvented itself even with its long history.

9. Aveiro & Costa Nova
As bonitas (e já famosas no Instagram) casas coloridas da Costa Nova são um dos motivos para passar em Aveiro. A esta última chamam-lhe a Veneza de Portugal, eu acho que é demasiada responsabilidade para uma cidade que vive entre o mar e a ria. O seu pequeno centro tem o seu encanto e eu adoro os ovos moles, um dos seus doces mais típicos. Isso sim, o passeio de barco pela ria quase a cheirar o mar valeu a pena, há um pouco de história, um pouco de humor e muita simpatia para os que viajamos com crianças.
The beautiful (and already famous on Instagram) colorful houses of Costa Nova are one of the reasons to visit Aveiro. The latter is called the Venice of Portugal, I think it is too much responsibility for a city that lives between the sea and the river. Its small center has its charm and I love the soft eggs, one of its most typical sweets. That yes, the boat trip along the estuary almost smelled the sea was worth it, there is a little history, a little humor and a lot of sympathy for those who travel with children.

10. Batalha
Na Batalha vale a pena parar para ver o Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória. Um fantástico exemplo da arquitetura gótica quando se mistura com o manuelino, ficou incompleto e podemos visitar as capelas (imperfeitas) que não conseguiram terminar. No seu interior o claustro é dos meus espaços favoritos onde o cuidado por todos os detalhes decorativos fazem de este lugar uma obra prima e de visita obrigatória.
In Batalha it is worth stopping to see the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória. A fantastic example of Gothic architecture when mixed with Manueline, it was incomplete and we can visit the (imperfect) chapels that were unable to finish. Inside, the cloister is one of my favorite spaces where care for all the decorative details makes this place a masterpiece and a must-visit.
11. Alcobaça
Tal como a Batalha um dos principais atrativos da cidade é o seu Mosteiro. E apesar do seu exterior decadente, de ter um aspecto menos cuidado no seu interior destaca a impressionante nave central de estilo gótico e os elaborados túmulos de Pedro e Inês. A primeira grande (e real) história de amor e tragédia conhecida em Portugal.
Like Batalha one of the main attractions of the city is its Monastery. And despite its decadent exterior, having a less careful look inside it highlights the impressive central nave in Gothic style and the elaborate tombs of Pedro and Inês. The first great (and real) story of love and tragedy known in Portugal.
12. Óbidos
Quase a chegar ao fim da Road Trip, recomendamos uma paragem na vila de Óbidos. As suas ruas estreitas dentro das suas muralhas medievais estão desde a pandemia mais vazias e com ainda mais charme. É outro de esses lugares onde o tempo parece ter ficado fora dessa fortaleza cuja construção começa no século XII. A feira medieval, a do chocolate e a do Natal são alguns dos eventos que animam a vila.
Almost reaching the end of the Road Trip, we recommend a stop at the village of Óbidos. Its narrow streets within its medieval walls are since the pandemic more empty and with even more charm. It is another one of those places where time seems to have stayed outside this fortress whose construction began in the 12th century. The medieval fair, the chocolate fair and the Christmas fair are some of the events that enliven the village.
