Francesinha na Alfândega Douro

Recebemos algumas (boas) dicas locais de onde poderíamos comer bem e barato no Porto, claro que perguntámos pela melhor francesinha ao que nos responderam que a do Alfândega Douro era boa por ser feita em forno a lenha. Convencidos, deixámos de parte o Capa Negra e o Santiago para ver que tal estavam. Não decepcionaram mas faltou ter provado as outras ao mesmo tempo para comparar.

We received some (good) local tips on where we could eat well and cheaply in Porto, of course we asked for the best Francesinha to which they answered that the one in the Alfândega Douro was good because it was made in a wood oven. Convinced part we left the Capa Negra and Santiago to see that it was. They did not disappoint but I missed tasting the others at the same time to be able to compare.

Brunch no Grande Hotel – Porto, Portugal

Quando cheguei ao Porto no Sábado dei uma voltinha para fazer tempo para que chegasse uma amiga, passei na Rua Santa Catarina e parei na fachada do Grande Hotel onde um cartaz anunciava o seu Brunch de Domingo. Não sabia muito bem os nossos planos para o fim de semana mas depois de consultar o preço (14€ por pessoa) ficou decidido. Abria ao meio-dia mas fomos um pouco antes o que nos permitiu conhecer o histórico hotel inaugurado em 1880.
When I arrived in Porto on Saturday I went for a stroll while waiting for a friend to arrive, I was walking by Santa Catarina Street and stopped in front of the Grand Hotel where a poster was announcing their Sunday Brunch. I did not know very well our plans for the weekend but after consulting the price (14 € per person) we had decided. It opened at noon but we went earlier  allowing us to explore the historic hotel that opened in 1880.

Bugo Art Burgers – Porto, Portugal

Os hamburguers (sem ser os de fast-food) estão na moda, em Madrid estão á algum tempo em Portugal não saberia dizer mas do pouco que vejo tanto em Lisboa como no Porto já começam a aparecer restaurantes dedicados á arte de servir um bom hamburguer. Talvez seja culpa do Marshall do “How I Met Your Mother” e do seu discurso sobre o melhor hamburguer de Nova Iorque onde dizia: “This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, Robin. This is God, speaking to us in food”.
 
The burgers (without the fast-food) are in fashion, there are for a while in Madrid and in Portugal I can’t really tell but for the little I see of both Lisbon and Porto it’s already starting to open restaurants dedicated to the art of serving a good burger . Maybe it’s the fault of Marshall’s from “How I Met Your Mother” and his speech on the best burger in New York where he said: “This is no mere sandwich of grilled meat and toasted bread, Robin. This is God, speaking to us in food “.
