Deixámos o Campo dei Miracoli para trás e enquanto caminhávamos em direcção ao nosso restaurante, rogando pragas á chuva passámos por esta bonita praça que neste dia estava um pouco mais cinzenta mas sem retirar interesse aos elegantes edificios que a compõem. Como se tivéssemos entrado noutra cidade, dedicada aos cavaleiros da Ordem de Santo Estevão cuja igreja desenhada por Vasari (o arquitecto de Cosimo I) podemos ver na praça.
We left the Campo dei Miracoli behind and as we walked towards our restaurant, cursing the rain, we passed through this beautiful square that was a little gray today but still it could not take its interest with the elegant buildings that complete it. As if we had entered another city, dedicated to the knights of the Order of Saint Stephen whose church designed by Vasari (the architect of Cosimo I) we can see in the square.
O seu edificio mais relevante é o Palazzo della Carovana construido no século XVI pelo mesmo arquiteto para os Cavaleiros da Ordem, a sua fachada rica em detalhe contém de brasões das suas familias assim como referências aos Médici, em frente está a estátua de Cosimo I. O Palazzo Dell’Orologio é outro dos lugares de interesse da Piazza dei Cavalieri, a sua história tem um aspecto curioso porque originalmente tinha apenas uma torre onde hoje vemos o relógio, pertencia á familia Gualandi e mais tarde á sua volta foi construido o palácio. A chuva não dava tréguas e não pudemos ver mais ainda assim ficou a essência de esta praça tão diferente do que vimos primeiro em Pisa.
Its most relevant building is the Palazzo della Carovana, built in the 16th century by the same architect for the Knights of the Order, its facade rich in detail contains the coats of arms of its families as well as references to the Medici, in front of it there is a statue of Cosimo I. Palazzo Dell’Orologio is another of the places of interest in Piazza dei Cavalieri, its history has a curious aspect because it originally had only one tower where today we see the clock, it belonged to the Gualandi family and later the palace was built around it. The rain gave no rest and we could not see much more, but the essence of this square was so different from what we saw first in Pisa.
