Quando fomos a Oxford tinha claro que quería ir comer ao Pie Minister no Covered Market. Levámos uma agradável surpresa ao visitar este mercado pelo seu luminoso e colorido interior quando comparado com a sua fachada exterior mais simples e conservadora. Surpreende também a sua origem, o primeiro mercado é construido no século XVIII para retirar das ruas as bancadas que vendiam carne, verduras, etc..
When we went to Oxford it was clear that I wanted to go eat at the Pie Minister at Covered Market. We took a pleasant surprise to visit this market for its bright and colorful interior when compared to its simpler and more conservative exterior facade. It also surprises its origin, the first market is built in the eighteenth century to remove from the streets the benches that sold meat, vegetables, etc.
Hoje em dia vende tudo um pouco, para além do tradicional mercado encontramos aquí lojas de souvenirs, de utensilios de cozinha, arte, roupa, cafés, restaurantes e pastelarias. Uma das que mais nos chamou a atenção foi a The Cake Shop, com a sua doce montra onde podemos ver como se fazem os seus bolos especiais. Têm alguns com as formas dos edificios mais emblemáticos da cidade que contrastam com o dos Minion, uma encomenda de aniversário infantil. Terminámos a visita no Pie Minister para almoçar.
Nowadays it sells everything a little, besides the traditional market we find here souvenir shops, kitchen utensils, art, clothes, cafes, restaurants and pastries. One of those that caught our attention was The Cake Shop, with its sweet showcase where we can see how they make their special cakes. They have some with the shapes of the most emblematic buildings of the city that contrast with the one of the Minion, an order for a child’s birthday. We ended our visit at Pie Minister for lunch.
