Na nossa Road Trip pela Normandia tínhamos planeado passar por Bayeaux, foi uma visita muito breve tendo como principal objetivo visitar o Museu da Tapeçaria para visitar os 58 painéis que contam a história de Guilherme o Conquistador.  Na primeira Guerra Mundial esta foi a primeira cidade a ser libertada pelos ingleses e felizmente ainda mantém o seu charme graças á sua construção á volta do rio Aure.

In our Road Trip through Normandy we had planned to go through Bayeaux, it was a very brief visit having as main objective to visit the Museum of the Tapestry to visit the 58 panels that tell the story of Guilherme the Conqueror. In the first World War this was the first city to be liberated by the English and fortunately still maintains its charm thanks to its construction around the river Aure.

Old Town:

Começamos o nosso passeio por Bayeux no centro antigo, fomos conhecer as suas ruas com charme e descobrir os seus recantos junto ao L’Aure com os seus moinhos e um toque de flores por todo o lado.

We started our tour through Bayeux in the old center, went to discover its streets with charm and discover its corners next to L’Aure with its mills and a touch of flowers everywhere.

Rue Saint Jean

Passeámos por esta animada rua pedonal que tem alguns dos edificios mais antigos da cidade, alguns que ainda mantêm a sua fachada com o trabalho em madeira muito típico das casas da época medieval.

We strolled along this lively pedestrian street that has some of the oldest buildings in the city, some of which still maintain their façade with the wooden work very typical of medieval houses.

Comer:

Fomos comer a un restaurante cujo nome talvez fosse um indicador para não entrar, “La Table du Terroir”. Nele comi as melhores ostras com um vinagre especiado muito bom e que ajudava a realçar o seu sabor, também é um bom lugar para comer carne.

We went to a restaurant whose name might have been an indicator not to enter, “La Table du Terroir”. In it I ate the best oysters with a very good spiced vinegar that helped to enhance its flavor, it is also a good place to eat meat.

Catedral Notre Dame:

No seu centro histórico está a Catedral de Bayeux e que na sua inauguração esteve o próprio Guilherme o Conquistador. Foi renovada no século XII com um estilo gótico que ainda hoje se mantém. O seu interior merece uma visita, o seu púlpito lateral elaborado, a cripta e os seus coloridos vitrais são alguns dos bons motivos para vê-la.

In its historical center is the Cathedral of Bayeux and in its inauguration was the own Guilherme the Conqueror. It was renovated in the 12th century with a Gothic style that still remains today. Its interior is worth a visit, its elaborate side pulpit, the crypt and its colorful stained glass are some of the good reasons to see it.

Musée de la Tapisserie:

Pode parecer tudo muito exagerado, as filas, o preço das entradas e tudo para ver um tapeçaria em pouco mais de quinze minutos. É na realidade uma experiência única que requere de menos gente na sala para aproveitar ao máximo, ver os detalhes porque não é só um tapete bordado é um livro aberto, são páginas e páginas que contam a história da conquista da Normandia por Guillerme II.   No seu interior não se pode filmar nem fotografar mas sim podes tirar fotos ás réplicas que estão na sua loja de souvenirs.

It may seem all too exaggerated, the queues, the price of the entrances and everything to see a tapestry in little more than fifteen minutes. It is really a unique experience that requires less people in the room to enjoy the max, see the details because it is not only an embroidered rug is an open book, they are pages and pages that tell the story of the conquest of Normandy by William II. Inside you can not film or shoot but you can take photos of the replicas that are in your souvenir shop.

Hotel du Ville:

É a casa da Câmara Municipal de Bayeux instalado num antigo palácio episcopal.

It is the home of the Town Hall of Bayeux installed in an old episcopal palace.
