O nosso primeiro post sobre Oxford vai para uma das suas universidades mais famosas, a Christ Church. Palco de Bridshead Revisited e Alice no País das Maravilhas, tornou-se ainda mais conhecida graças aos filmes de Harry Potter. A entrada principal é na Tom’s Gate mas os visitantes entram pelos Meadow buildings, percorrendo um bonito jardim relvado com vista para a sua catedral.

Our first post on Oxford goes to one of its most famous universities, Christ Church. The stage of Bridshead Revisited and Alice in Wonderland, became even better known thanks to the Harry Potter films. The main entrance is at Tom’s Gate but visitors enter through the Meadow buildings, traversing a beautiful lawned garden overlooking their cathedral.

Foi fundada no século XVI pelo Rei Henrique VIII e nos dias de hoje continua acolher estudantes e a formar futuros primeiros ministros. Será talvez um luxo e um privilégio percorrer estes corredores tão antigos e frequentar as suas históricas salas de aula mas felizmente não é preciso estudar aqui para visitar os seus principais edificios. O seu lugar mais emblemático será talvez o seu grande Hall inspiração para o mesmo de Hogwarts onde os seus alunos tomam as refeições ou se reúnem para saber qual a equipa que lidera o ranking. Quando visitámos tinha tanta gente que era difícil vê-lo com o detalhe que se merece. Nas paredes vários retratos de figuras ilustres ligadas á história de universidade encontrando no centro o Rei que a fundou. Seguimos depois para a Catedral, entre vitrais e tumbas decoradas, encontramos depois o seu famoso coro a treinar, continuámos com esse sentimento de priveligiados.

It was founded in the 16th century by King Henry VIII and today continues to welcome students and to form future prime ministers. It may be a luxury and privilege to walk through these old corridors and attend their historic classrooms but fortunately you do not need to study here to visit their main buildings. Its most emblematic place will be perhaps its great inspiration hall for the same one of Hogwarts where its students take the meals or they meet to know which team that leads the ranking. When we visited there were so many people that it was difficult to see it with the detail it deserves. On the walls various portraits of illustrious figures linked to the history of university found in the center the King who founded it. We then proceed to the Cathedral, between stained-glass windows and decorated tombs, then we find his famous choir to train, we continued with this feeling of privileges.
